Long Island, New York
July 2012
A clear blue sky was a greeting to a fresh new day during the work week as the rain from the weekend had been washed away the previous day. Birds chirping outside from the gated entrance of the house made for a pleasant feeling outside. Multiple trucks and a few cars sat in the driveway for crew men and actors that had duty inside on the set. The Monday blues were gone now, as the week had adjusted to a better day now. It was always easier to put hours in and move forward once shaking off that one rough day to start a work schedule. Katherine Heigl knew what that was like, or at least she believed that she had more experience than anyone else working on the set of this film.
With a salary adjusted into multi-millions per movie, the bombshell blonde actress refused to sign her name on paper unless she was making a full pay check. Her reputation had become known throughout Hollywood social circles at this point, coming with certain nicknames that may have been unflattering towards anyone else. The bitch in heels for one took a certain sense of pride in her 'hard to work with' labels. Katherine didn't care about the negative press, not when she was banking millions of dollars per film, regardless of their box office results. She knew better for this project, as it had the word 'bomb' written all over it. The company had already cashed in on enough product placements to ensure they would make a decent return regardless the box office results.
Doug Moore wasn't a well known director for racking up award nominations through his time in Hollywood. The company had chosen him for the sole purpose of saving money on their budget, as the largest chunk of it was going to one actress who refused to take a pay cut. Katherine's agent only furthered her cutthroat business approach. As the only 'big name' signed to the project, Katherine was surrounded by a cast of B and C level talent. Their names had been plugged from TV shows, including one of her Grey's Anatomy costars Justin Chambers. The script was for a romantic-comedy where Katherine played a divorced wife attempting to unite her family in the Hamptons for a holiday event. With Justin playing her ex-husband on camera, she felt a level of comfort around an old friend.
The script and planned scenes were ridiculous, but Katherine didn't feel it was worthy of complaining. She made her money and that was all that mattered in her eyes. So far, the production had begun going back two weeks ago and looked to be wrapped up before July came to an end. This made situations easier for Katherine, as she couldn't wait to get out of New York and fly back home to Utah. Her husband was off on tour at the moment and Katherine had made plans to meet with an old acquittance she had once had an affair with a few years prior. It seemed that each time they planned to get together, a roadblock was thrown up in the paved streets of life. Her loneliness during the past three months had only created a number of frustrations with her short temper.
She wasn't the type of woman to take no for an answer, regardless the situation. Katherine felt if she wanted something, she had to reach out and 'grab life by the balls', as she had once told a friend. Doug Moore knew better than to question her authority on the set. Even though it was his film, Katherine had control of the work environment and quickly built an atmosphere that made her comfortable, regardless how the rest of the cast and crew felt. Her bodyguards were always on set, often sitting around in their own personalized chairs next to the actors. Doug had what he described as a vacation home in the Hamptons, now serving as the set piece for the entire film. It made the budget easier to navigate around Katherine's large pay check, but also an ample opportunity for him to bring his son into the set.
