Long Island, New York
July 2012
A clear blue sky was a greeting to a fresh new day during the work week as the rain from the weekend had been washed away the previous day. Birds chirping outside from the gated entrance of the house made for a pleasant feeling outside. Multiple trucks and a few cars sat in the driveway for crew men and actors that had duty inside on the set. The Monday blues were gone now, as the week had adjusted to a better day now. It was always easier to put hours in and move forward once shaking off that one rough day to start a work schedule. Katherine Heigl knew what that was like, or at least she believed that she had more experience than anyone else working on the set of this film.
With a salary adjusted into multi-millions per movie, the bombshell blonde actress refused to sign her name on paper unless she was making a full pay check. Her reputation had become known throughout Hollywood social circles at this point, coming with certain nicknames that may have been unflattering towards anyone else. The bitch in heels for one took a certain sense of pride in her 'hard to work with' labels. Katherine didn't care about the negative press, not when she was banking millions of dollars per film, regardless of their box office results. She knew better for this project, as it had the word 'bomb' written all over it. The company had already cashed in on enough product placements to ensure they would make a decent return regardless the box office results.
Doug Moore wasn't a well known director for racking up award nominations through his time in Hollywood. The company had chosen him for the sole purpose of saving money on their budget, as the largest chunk of it was going to one actress who refused to take a pay cut. Katherine's agent only furthered her cutthroat business approach. As the only 'big name' signed to the project, Katherine was surrounded by a cast of B and C level talent. Their names had been plugged from TV shows, including one of her Grey's Anatomy costars Justin Chambers. The script was for a romantic-comedy where Katherine played a divorced wife attempting to unite her family in the Hamptons for a holiday event. With Justin playing her ex-husband on camera, she felt a level of comfort around an old friend.
The script and planned scenes were ridiculous, but Katherine didn't feel it was worthy of complaining. She made her money and that was all that mattered in her eyes. So far, the production had begun going back two weeks ago and looked to be wrapped up before July came to an end. This made situations easier for Katherine, as she couldn't wait to get out of New York and fly back home to Utah. Her husband was off on tour at the moment and Katherine had made plans to meet with an old acquittance she had once had an affair with a few years prior. It seemed that each time they planned to get together, a roadblock was thrown up in the paved streets of life. Her loneliness during the past three months had only created a number of frustrations with her short temper.
She wasn't the type of woman to take no for an answer, regardless the situation. Katherine felt if she wanted something, she had to reach out and 'grab life by the balls', as she had once told a friend. Doug Moore knew better than to question her authority on the set. Even though it was his film, Katherine had control of the work environment and quickly built an atmosphere that made her comfortable, regardless how the rest of the cast and crew felt. Her bodyguards were always on set, often sitting around in their own personalized chairs next to the actors. Doug had what he described as a vacation home in the Hamptons, now serving as the set piece for the entire film. It made the budget easier to navigate around Katherine's large pay check, but also an ample opportunity for him to bring his son into the set.
Dave didn't mind having a role in one of his father's films, knowing it would mean he had an easy paycheck waiting for him. The twenty-three year old man had yet to do anything with his life after flunking out of a university scholarship bought and paid for by his old man. Doug had tried to mold his son into having a successful adult life where he could work in Hollywood, going as far as to send him to the Julliard School in New York. It was there that Dave made friends among fellow musicians, later dropping out to pursue what he thought was going to be the creation of a Heavy Metal band. It all fell to pieces within four months due to partying and the clash of egos among the musicians. He had talent as a guitar player, but sometimes it was difficult to put down the bong.
All of that had led him currently unemployed, but he promised his dad that he had 'something big coming up', just around the corner as he would lie. At any given moment, Dave believed that by uploading videos of his guitar playing onto the internet, he would land a dream gig somewhere. His actions had resulted into a following on Youtube with thousands of comments praising his ability to play covers of classic Metal songs and nail the solos note by note. In the end, he had yet to get that phone call he was expecting from an old band about to hit the road touring and needing a hot shot lead guitar player. Some of his friends had told him that it was all a waste of time, but Dave couldn't persuaded to give up. One day, he was going to prove them all wrong. He at least had his father backing him from the corner, who was impressed enough by his son's guitar talents, he scripted a scene for him in the film.
A special scene had been set in the film that involved Dave, playing the son of Katherine and Justin's adopted son. Through the script, every scene built up to the event of a party and family reunion. Such a day that would come crashing down from their son playing loud music. Doug went as far as to rent a real double cabinet set of Marshall JCM800 amplifiers. With product placements covering much of the film, it wasn't difficult to acquire a real deal Gibson guitar. Dave requested that the guitar be a Les Paul Custom in alpine white with gold hardware. Money had been spent from the budget in acquiring a number of licensed songs to be used and he talked his father into going with an Ozzy Osbourne song. Crazy Train was recommended and Dave agreed, knowing he could nail Rhoads' infamous solos he had spent years practicing.
The Marshall cabinet and guitar had been placed upstairs in the house, modelling out what would be the bedroom for his character in the film. Since it was his father's home despite currently working as a set, Dave came and went as he pleased. Downstairs a room had been designated to hair and makeup, but he seen no need to get fixed up. With his long brown hair and clean shaved face, he already had the look of a Metal head to go with his skinny build. There was no need for a small slice of the budget to be wasted on his clothes. Not when he could show up in band shirts, ripped jeans and wearing his black studded leather belt. Dave made himself look like a Metal head straight out of 1985. The ward robe budget and makeup was for the real actors and actresses on the set, all revolving around one special woman who had solidified herself in a level of power among the set.
Dave had first taken a look at Katherine Heigl a week ago while hanging out on the set. She had stepped outside, dressed up in a fancy white dress that exposed her heavy cleavage on point. Her golden hair was carefully fixed up in a stunning bun style, revealing her ears with small diamonds glimmering from the lobes. Those big brown eyes were soon glaring at him as she stood in front of the young man and gave him a stern expression. Dave didn't think twice before realizing that Katherine Heigl had caught him standing there, gazing at her breasts with a dumbfounded expression across his silly face. She didn't look amused, as her body language was enough to tell him that she was not someone to double-cross. He stepped away from her, quickly walking off as her eyes followed him in the same dominant matter as her striking pose.
Katherine had a way of intimidating people outside of her attitude and reputation on the set. Dave knew his actions were rude, but what did he care? It was the first time he had seen a beautiful woman with a great rack since his days in college. It may have only been a few months ago, but it almost felt as if those days came from a lifetime ago with how fast life was flying by. The days of drinking through beers and blazing up with the best weed his money could by. Dave had once had a girlfriend back at Julliard, but she had made sure to take her career in music theory more seriously than him. Now he found himself lusting over a bombshell blonde actress whom he had every right to fear based on the aura of demeanor she carried herself with. Her eyes had burned through his soul that day and he could not easily forget that stern expression she gave him.
