Welcome back to the world of Sinners, ladies and gentlemen and nonbinary persons of the readership. As we live in a Multiverse, let us explore alternate paths that this story could have taken. For starters, the Vampire villain Remmick felt more like a misguided antihero than a straight-up villain. The fellow is white, sure, but he can relate to African Americans being oppressed by white Americans in 1930s Mississippi because his Irish folk were forcibly converted over a thousand years ago in the Emerald Isle.
The Irish Vampire Remmick wants to be Spiritually reunited with the family he lost, and he sees Sammie's ethereal, timeline-altering music as a path to that. Is he so wrong? At the end of the day, family is what makes the world go around. The family into which we are born. The family that we run from. The family that we seek. The family that we create. This must hold true for Vampires as it does for mortals. Remmick came to the Mississippi Delta not just to escape those Choctaw Vampire hunters but to create a family of his own. The undead fellow got more than he bargained for at Club Juke. Don't mess with black southerners...
Smoke, Stack, Annie, Mary, Sammie, Delta Slim, Bo and Grace Chow, they're amazing folks and fine representatives of minority life in the Mississippi Delta in that era. Watching Smoke and Stack and company fight the Vampires, one can draw parallels between different groups who experience prejudice and yet clash rather than becoming allies against common foes. Remmick's offer of his merry band of black, brown and white Vampires uniting to take down Klan boss Hogwood was particularly appealing. Yeah, the heroes and the villains aren't so cut and dry. Let's explore, folks.
"I was wrong, y'all, the Vampire state is glorious," Annie said with a smile. The tall, curvy and dark-skinned, bodacious African American female Vampire and former Voodoo Priestess flashed her new fangs with pride. Standing nearby, Smoke, Pearline and Sam were all smiles. The Vampire Remmick was dead, along with Hogwood the bigoted businessman, and many others. In this alternate universe, these four were all that remained. Stack, Mary, Bo, Grace, Delta Slim, Cornbread and the others died during the Vampire/human war. Let us explore this alternate timeline, folks.
The Vampire Remmick wanted to use Sammie's magical gifts to Spiritually reunite with his ancestors, dead a thousand years ago when the Brits forcibly converted the Irish to the ways of Christendom. Sure, the wily Irish Vampire was up to no good but he created more black Vampires than anyone else ever seen on screen or in the world of horror literature. The Vampire Remmick diversified the world of Vampires by creating a ton of black Vampires. Some may call him a villain, but here we praise the fella for standing up for the cause of Undead Diversity. Whatever happened to the black Vampires made by Remmick? Hmm, isn't that worth exploring? Let's fuck around and find out, folks!
"Damn right," Smoke said as he pulled Annie into his arms and kissed her. The tall, dark and handsome, mustachioed African American Vampire embraced his beloved warmly. Inside Club Juke, they awaited the passing of the day with their friends. Sam and Pearline were nearby, bantering while recovering from the injuries they sustained during the Vampire war. Earlier, Hogwood and his men came, just like the late Vampire king Remmick said they would, and there was a fight. Smoke, Annie, Sam and Pearline fought against Hogwood and his men, slaughtering them.
"I can't wait till dark, I want to play sweet music for you," Sam said to Pearline as they huddled in the darkness. In the darkness, Pearline smiled. Mere hours ago, things had been so different. Pearline had been a mortal woman, a singer with aSpirations for success and fame, and the wife of a local businessman. Sam was the son of the local preacher, and a young black man with an unusual musical talent. The Vampire Remmick changed them both into Vampires, right before he was brought down by Stack.
"We will have eternity for that," Pearline said as she kissed Sam passionately. The two newbie black Vampires took solace in one another. For them and their acolytes, it had been a harrowing night. Sam felt bad about the way things went down. It was his ethereal musical gifts that brought the Vampire Remmick and his demonic retinue to Club Juke. Remmick went after Sam and when Pearline defended him with her shotgun, Remmick bit and turned her. Stack ended up dying right after taking down Remmick, who'd infected Sam before going down for good. What a night...
