Los Angeles, California
Sunny skies clear of any clouds created a perfect blue sky above the city. Early in the morning, a bit of rain had passed through, but it was impossible to believe at this point. The hot L.A. sun had dried everything up, leaving it to appear as if no small storm had passed through whatsoever. For David, it was just like any other day. He was driving around his gold van, looking for fares that were calling in requests of services from the Silver Screen Express business. The air conditioner was turned up wide open to relieve any hot air that may have entered the taxi van from the atmosphere outside. He had picked a black T-shirt to wear today, something he knew was a poor choice considering how bad the heat was outside but he didn't care at this point.
The afternoon hours were closing in, just past 12 P.M. as David continued to drive the taxi van through Downtown L.A. Not so long ago before the clock hit 12, he picked up two passengers as a couple and had to drive them to an airport and back. They offered a bit of conversation, mostly talking about sports and the NBA playoffs. David offered no opinion back, as he didn't follow sports whatsoever, but he wasn't the type of driver who didn't listen to his passengers. After the short ride out, he received a dispatch that a woman had called for a Silver Screen cab around Hollywood near a specific street. She was said to be wearing a white shirt, sunglasses and a pair of pink jeans. As David was already close by, he figured he would take the short ride for a new fare.
Today so far had been somewhat slow. Over the pace since hitting the street, David had only picked up four passengers total; counting the couple he picked up just before this, as one total. He had made a good bit of money, but only because the rates of the Silver Screen Express rides were so expensive. If he was still a regular old cab driver, he wouldn't have made much at all today so far. He remained focused as he piloted the gold van through the streets, slowly approaching his destination. When he pulled near the curb of a street, he noticed a blonde haired woman wearing large sunglasses, carrying a small purse and matching the description given to him. She had on a white shirt under a blue jacket and was wearing pink pants with white high heels. David pulled the van near the sidewalk and rolled down the window as she approached the cab.
"Hi there, did you call for a ride?"
The sunlight beamed down over the woman's face, almost blinding him with the brightness over her sunglasses. She smiled and nodded her head.
"Yeah, I did. I need you to take me over to Beverley Hills, I've got some shopping to do."
"Well, jump in ma'am. The charge will be for five hundred dollars for the ride initially."
"Yeah, I've got that covered."
He began to roll the window back up, pushing his finger down on the control button on the side panel of the door while he watched her move to the back. She pulled the door open and invited herself in, sitting down on the right side seat in the back. She closed the door and placed her purse in the left seat. David moved the taxi van back onto the street and began to drive again. As he was driving, he glanced to the rear view mirror and had a look at the woman. She remained quiet while sitting in the back seat. Beyond her blue jacket, he noticed that her blouse revealed quite large cleavage. She took her sunglasses off and shoved them into her purse, David was ready to strike a conversation.
"Quite a hot day, isn't it?"
"What?"
The woman didn't quite hear him at first. David spoke again.
"I said, it's quite a hot day! You look like you would be sweating in that jacket."
A smirk ran over the woman's face before she replied back.
"Oh, yeah! It's very hot outside today but nothing out of the ordinary for a day out here."
"Is this your first time riding in the back of a Silver Screen Express van?"
She shook her head and crossed her legs within the seat before answering him back.
"Actually, no! I call at least twice a month, been doing this for over a year now. I don't think you have ever been my driver before."
"Nope! If I was, I would remember you some how."
"Do you usually remember your passengers?"
"By faces, yeah. I'm bad with remember names unless they're uncommon."
The woman smiled the next time he gazed back into the rear view mirror. David kept his focus locked on the road, driving among traffic. When he took a second glance at her, he noticed a gold watch over her left wrist and small gold hoop rings hanging from her ears. The watch certainly appeared to be a luxurious Rolex one, if any big brand name. For some reason, the woman looked quite familiar to him. He couldn't place his finger on where exactly he had witnessed her in his mind. While driving, she spoke again.
"Do you know a driver named Chris?"
"Chris?"
"Yeah, he's usually my driver. So, who are you?"
"You can call me by David, ma'am. I know Chris, he's on a different shift this week."
"Oh, I see."
She nodded her head before speaking again.
"I'm Katherine, by the way."
"Wonderful to meet you, Katherine."
Leaning up, she glanced at his face from the back. Katherine couldn't help but study him for a bit, as she knew he had to be studying her since the rear view mirror above was positioned perfectly for his eyes to glance to her. He appeared to be an aging man, possibly in his mid-forties as her estimation. David continued driving the cab van over the streets. After he learned her name, she still seemed to be familiar to him some how. He couldn't help but to speak up and ask her about this.
"Katherine, you seem to be familiar to me for some reason. I don't think you were a passenger in one of my cabs before, but I swear I've seen you from somewhere."
She smirked to him, almost in a smug grin.
"Maybe you have. I'm not one that men easily can forget, that much I can tell you."
"Well, I certainly am not going to disagree. You're a fine, very beautiful woman."
Already he was flirting with her. David didn't even notice it, as he was so used to being a womanizer cab driver. She continued to smirk to him but offered no reply. Instead, she dug through her purse for her cellphone to check her text messages. He wanted to say something back, but figured it would be too rude to interrupt her attention from texting back on her phone. For the time being, David continued to drive the taxi van through the streets. Their destination was not far off after several minutes. He spoke up to alert her.
"Alright ma'am, we're almost to Beverley Hills. I just thought I would let you know so you can pay the fare when I drop you off."
"Oh, right..."
