A few weeks before WrestleMania 38 in 2022, and at an airport not too far from his family home, the former WWE Superstar and now former member of the upstart All Elite Wrestling promotion he had a hand in founding, Cody Rhodes, was being driven in a black SUV onto the tarmac of an airport.
"Never thought I'd see that thing again..." Cody remarked, clad in a professional suit that not only hugged the blonde hunk's desirable, muscular body but showed off his signature American Nightmare tattoo on his neck. He looked out the window and saw the famous private corporate jet owned and used by the Chairman of the Board, Mr. McMahon. "But if I'm going to Finish the Story, I can't do it slumming it in the minor leagues." He mused as the car came to a stop. "Thanks..." He said as the door was opened for him before he took a moment to adjust his tie. A quick check to see that there was no press around to leak this secret meeting. With the coast clear, he approached the steps to the jet.
"McMahon is waiting for you inside, Mister Rhodes." A bodyguard said at the bottom of the steps. Cody nodded and walked up. "Let's see what Mister McMahon has to say... If he even remembers me without the make-up on..." He said as he cleared his throat, nervous as anyone would be to go face-to-face with the most powerful man in all of sports entertainment. Except, to Cody's surprise, the person sat in the jet at the back was indeed a McMahon. Just not the one he'd been expecting.
"Cody Rhodes..." The smirking face of WWE Executive Vice President and daughter of Mr. McMahon, Stephanie McMahon says as she sits in the leather-backed chair of the corporate jet. Stephanie's piercing, beautiful eyes lock on the second-generation former Superstar. Dressed in a dark navy blue business suit, with an unbuttoned jacket and a nicely form-fitted pair of pants, an ivory white blouse unbuttoned to provide a teasing peek of the ample cleavage of her luscious chest. Stephanie has her hands folded in her lap before she lifts her right hand and motions for Cody Rhodes to enter "Come... Come on in... I don't bite..." Stephanie says with a smirk.
"You'll need to forgive me, Miss McMahon..." Cody composes himself as he moves further in. Taking the free seat she'd motioned to. "I had been expecting to see your father." He admitted once he'd sat down. "But I suppose I have just as much to speak about to yourself as I do to your father, all things considered. It would be awkward either way no matter if it was a direct McMahon family member I was meeting or one through marriage." He states, hinting at the position of power Stephanie's husband has in the WWE.
Stephanie sceptically narrows her eyes as she looks at Cody "Since when did you start with all the formal 'Miss McMahon' crap?" Stephanie says, pressing her lips together. "Sorry my father couldn't make it, he does send his best to you though."
"I'm actually flattered to hear that, I honestly am... And I'm sorry Miss McMahon..." Cody deliberately says, showing there's some tension in the air between them. "But I figured a meeting between a former, problematic employee and one of the most powerful people in all WWE should at least start a little professionally... Considering all the 'awkward' comments and moments I've said and done that I imagine are clearly remembered in not just your father's mind but yours as well." He puts it mildly.
Stephanie smirks a bit "Oh yes... The little stunt with the sledgehammer and throne was quite memorable..." Stephanie says with a hint of resentment in her voice before she shrugs her shoulders slightly "But... I've got to hand it to you, Cody. What you did was pretty incredible..." Stephanie says before she motions with her right hand again towards him "You leave WWE... The global success... You leave that and what happened? You became a bigger star outside of the WWE. That's impressive, damn impressive..." Stephanie pauses and looks at Rhodes with a hint of sincerity "Takes someone special to accomplish that"
"Well colour me surprised, Stephanie..." He says, and at least showing he appreciated the remark by dropping the formal title. "Thank you... I didn't just want to sit on my ass, collect paychecks or take part in YouTube videos in my time away... I put in the work no matter what promotion I was in. Japan, the UK, America... Hard work pays off just like my father always told me." He proudly says. "Although, if you don't mind me saying Stephanie, being a bigger star now than before could apply to you too... All the awards, the most powerful businesswoman lists and all the events... You've been doing damn fine yourself in the WWE." He compliments back.
Stephanie nods her head and smiles softly "Looks like our fathers raised us well..." Stephanie comments before she looks back to Cody with a smirk "So before we get into discussing business... I want to know, why leave? Why did you create such a buzz when you and your wife decided to walk away from being Elite..."
"Why? Well, I'll admit there was a temptation..." Cody admits, sitting back in his chair. "My wife, as I'm sure you've heard the rumours, is done with competing now and is focusing on other endeavours. As for me? I got plenty of offers. Staying with that contract, maybe going to Japan... I had a lot of options." He says before he locks eyes with Stephanie. "But you just mentioned it just there. My father. The American Dream. When he was here in WWE, he never got to fulfil his Dream of winning that one title. The biggest prize of them all, even bigger than the World title that he once held that I went and held a while back. The WWE Championship." He says with a determined tone. "That's why I left, Stephanie. I left so I could do what my father and my brother couldn't do. I came... To Finish... The Story."
