The first thing that hit me stepping out of the airport was the heat. I was used to heat, but the hotness in Texas was much different. The humidity greeted you with a surprise punch to the face. Every breath was a chore at first but slowly I got used to it.

"It'll just be a second," the man at the counter said smilingly, "Your rental should be pulling up soon."

I thanked him and turned around. I don't know how I've done it but I've gotten a job with Magnolia as a project manager. I've even met Chip and Joanna - through Zoom - but I've nailed that interview. Since the start of their new TV network, they were busy with producing, maintaining, their new and upcoming shows. They needed a hand with their flagship operation which was their construction business. Chip kept all control for the demo and construction since he was very hands off on the TV side. I was ecstatic! Not only was I a fan but I reported under Joanna! Well since she was super busy I didn't think I would see much of her but I could hope. I always thought she was cute and funny. I drove to my hotel to shower, put my luggage away, and rest a bit before heading down to the Magnolia offices to introduce myself. Part of the hiring agreement is that they would provide a house that they would be renovating plus a car. The house was an amazing perk, since housing was very limited in their area. The car, well they would also provide me a car free of charge which was very nice of them to do. I did have a budget but the catch was they would need to go with me to get the best price. I took him up on his offer, besides I could take a power nap and catch up on some needed sleep. He was also right. I would be living out of a suitcase for some time. My stuff was in storage. I would be eating out until the home was ready. Thank goodness they would be paying the hotel.

While walking to the back he showed me around. There was a picture of the first house they remodeled. He told me some behind the scenes things, we laughed and joked around. The food was delicious. The fried chicken was the best I ever had. I joked that I tried following the same recipe but it didn't come out as good.

I asked, "Where are the kids?'

"Oh some of them are sleeping at friend's houses. The older ones live in their colleges they visit about once a month." Chip explained.

"Such a big house, how do you keep up with it?"

Lately we haven't, we've been so busy." Joanna said, "Not having a tv helps but work keeps us busy. That's why we hired you. We're stretched too thin and eventually you will be too. You'll have to hire help as well."

After dinner Chip, Joanna, and myself retired to the living room. There we talked. I asked do they watch shows?

"Chip likes to make his own words." Joanna said.

After discussing life and how it had brought us together, Chip did a big manly yawn and said, "Man, I'm beat. Listen before you go to the office. Can you swing by the job site tomorrow morning? I'd like for you to meet the guys on my team. I decided that I'd like for you to be my procurement manager as well. "That sounds like a deal," I said. "Was dinner a ploy to get more duties assigned to me?" I asked, showing a bit of my northernness with the word dinner instead of supper.

"Maybe." he said, "we'll see you tomorrow. I'll leave you to chat with your bossman. Good night Jojo. I love you"
