I was awoken in the morning by the sound of my phone ringing.
"Nnnnnngghh... Yeah.....?" I answered sounding very groggy.
"She hasn't showed up!" Heidi was on the other end of the phone.
"Who hasn't shown up where?" I asked, rubbing my eyes, having no clue as to what she was on about.
"Emma!" Heidi replied, almost shrieking.
"Oh fuck! That's today?" I said snapping back to reality.
"YES! And she's not here! What am I going to do?" She sounded very anxious.
"Nothing you can do. These snot nosed little famous kids dictate the schedule we work at." I replied.
"And why the fuck aren't you here?" She asked.
"Yeah.... About that.... I.... Er.... Well.... I got nothing." I gave in, when my mind wasn't quick enough to process a lie. "I slept in." I confessed. "Are you happy!" I snapped.
"No sir! I'm sorry, it's just that.... I'd feel a lot better if you were here." Heidi confessed.
"Heidi." I sighed. "It doesn't matter how much you want me, office relationships are not really permitted. Sure they are frowned upon, but we have a employer/employee relationship."
"You're not my employer! We both work for Abercrombie!"
"Then why is it you're calling me and not Abercrombie?" I asked.
"Well.... Cause..."
"I thought so. Just let me jump in the shower and I'll be there in a flash." And with that I hung up.
Great! I had to sleep in on an important day like today, and our main star was AWOL just to add insult to injury.
After a quick shower and short train journey, I was on my way towards the building. Just had to wait for the lights to say walk. Right then, I head a female's voice approaching. I looked back to see a young looking brunette, mid to late teens in a short white skirt and a white top with one of the straps on her shoulders sliding down her arm and a white hand bag in one hand to match her outfit and sunglasses on.
She was talking on her cell phone, clearly oblivious to the rest of the world, especially the traffic as she didn't even check to see if there was any on coming traffic, she just started to walk onto the road.
"Woah!" I said quickly grabbing her by her small waist and pulling her back onto the pavement as a car went speeding by with its horn blaring.
"Ass hole!" She yelled at the car.
"In all fairness, you did just walk onto the road before it was safe to go." I said pointing out her mistake. She just gave me a dirty look and continued talking on her cell phone.
"Yeah, sorry about that, some jerk just tried to run me over!" She went back to talking to whoever it was she was talking to on her cell phone. Kids these days. I made my way onto the set to find a hysterical Heidi.
"Oh my God! I am so gonna lose my job!" She was pacing back and forth talking to herself, mumbling all sorts of gibberish.
"Heidi!" I called out, raising my voice just enough for her to hear me. "You need to calm your ass down. If she doesn't turn up, she'll just get black listed as one of our models."
"She will?" Heidi asked hopefully.
"Not really. Probably into some kind of negotiation where she does free publicity or some shit, but it'll be her fault not yours or mine."
"That's good to hear you say that." Heidi said feeling some form of solace from my words and she had already stopped talking to herself.
"Hey boss!" The photographer called out to me. "Look who finally decided to show!" He said gesturing in the direction of Emma.
Both me and Heidi looked in the direction.
"Hey!" I said out loud as I recognised her instantly as the girl that tried to walk into traffic when I was on my way here.
"What?" Heidi asked.
"Nothing." I replied. "Just that I recognise her." I came up with something.
"You should." Heidi whispered. "She's Julia Roberts niece."
"She's an actress?" I asked.
"Yeah. She was recently in that movie hotel for dogs." Heidi added. "She was also in that movie Nancy Drew and Wildchild and did that Nickelodeon show Unfabulous." Heidi added.
"Oh!" I said. "I knew that!" I scoffed, pretending like I did when I clearly had no clue who she was and knew next to nothing about her.
"She does look pretty cute though." I commented.
"She's only 17!" Heidi added.
Boy did I feel like a pervert having improper thoughts about her.
Emma looked in my direction with the exact same look that I looked in her direction a few moments ago, like she recognised me.
"OK." I said. "Let's get her into make-up and then into wardrobe, we're already running very late." I said, all eyes instantly going onto Emma.
"So where's my dressing room?" She asked walking up to me.
"I guess... I'll show you." I said, seeing as though she was asking me. I walked off, leading the way.
"You just got in as well!" She said coming up be side me.
"But I'm not the one they're taking pictures of." I retorted.
"Whatever!" She said with a pissed off look on her face.
I looked down so as to avoid eye contact with her and found my self staring at her foot wear. It was basic flip flops with her toe nails painted pink.
"You obviously didn't know who I was, did you?" She asked, sounding a little annoyed.
"Yes I do!" I defended myself, cause she was absolutely right. I had never seen any of her films.
"OK then. Name me a movie I have done then?" She challenged me.
"You're in that Hotel for Dogs movie." I said.
"You have to be blind to miss all the posters that was up of that!" She said finding my answer unacceptable. "Name another then."
"Uh...." I was struggling now, cause I did remember the movie cause of all the posters.
"Nancy Drew." I said remembering what Heidi had said earlier. "And that Nickelodeon show, Unfabulous."
"OK then. Why'd you ignore me out on the street then?" She had me there.
"You were on the phone." I was surprised at how quickly I came up with that. "It would've been rude for me to interrupt."
