They say that some people are destined for great things, but they never say how. For me I stumbled upon greatness by the most unconventional of ways, lightning.
Lightning, you may be asking yourself. Yes lightning, it may seem strange, but a strike of lightning to my body changed my whole life. To make a long story short I was trying to change a flat tire on my car during a sudden thunderstorm, when in an instant I felt hot electrical charge flow from toes, up my body, and through my head. The brilliant white light encompassed everything I could see, as my heart for some unexplained reason began beating with three distinct rhythmic beats. "Dud, duddete, deet, dud, duddete, deet" I could feel my heart beating inside my head. What felt like an entirety, was over in a mere instance, as the bright light around me turned pitch black.
When I regained consensus, I could feel that I was lying in a bed of some sort, but was unable to see my surroundings since gauze was wrapped around what felt like my entire body. In the background I could hear the distinct sound of a heart monitor "beep, beeeeep, beep, beeeep..."
"Oh great", I thought to myself, "Not that I wasn't ugly looking enough before, but now I'm burnt freak who was struck by lightning." I laid in the bed for what felt like hours before I could hear the hospital room door open and hear the distinct sound of footsteps "tap...tap...tap" on the tile floor of the room.
For some otherworldly reason I began seeing a hospital bed and what appeared to me lying in the bed, but that couldn't be me. How could I be viewing myself? "The poor bastard. Who gets struck by lightning." I could hear these words from a feminine voice, but at the same time, I didn't hear them, but sensed them.
"Sir, are you awake?" the female nurse's voice said.
I could only mumble a response with the gauze strappings covering my face. "Yeeesss. What happened?"
The nurse responded verbally "You were struck by lightning. Luckily you were holding the tire iron and had it attached to the wheel of your car, so your body acted as a conduit and most of the damage of the lightning was passed on to your car. You only had minor burns on your body, most caused by your rain coat that melted on to your skin and your belt that which burned your lower stomach and waist. Oh, and the heat singed off your hair, but your roots appear to still be fine, so your hair should grow back."
Again non-verbal voices "god he looks like he has cancer, completely bald everywhere, even his crotch."
I responded back "What about my crotch?"
Verbal response from the nurse "Sir I didn't say anything about your crotch."
The non-verbal voice "How the fuck did he know I was thinking about his crotch?"
I began wondering if I could hear her thoughts, can she hear my thoughts?
I began to ask the nurse additional questions, "When can I take the gauze straps from my face? How long am I going to be held for?"
The nurse responded "The gauze can be taken off at any time, it was only put on to make sure the sauve we put on your face for the burns didn't rub off. Now as for how long you will be held, we are looking into that. We still have to run test on your kidneys and liver, to see how they were affected by the lightning. We're waiting for you to consume more fluids so we can test your output to make sure both organs are functioning correctly and then we need you to work on some physical therapy, were not quite sure if any of motor skills were affected. It's pretty rare that a person takes a direct strike from a bolt of lightning and lives."
Over the course of what felt like weeks, I slowly began to figure out how my telekinetic powers could be used, not only could I hear the thoughts of others and convey my thoughts directly, but with work I could control their thoughts as well. Being a special case, the hospital assigned me one nurse (Jennifer), which allowed me to practice my new powers on her. It was great, I basically had my own servant.
