Luke meditated underneath the comfort of the forest canopy, feeling the living force around him. The breeze was blowing gently through the trees, the temperature was perfect, and the soil beneath him was soft. Everywhere he listened to the small echoes of the planet. Worms, moles, and fungi moved beneath him. Birds and small rodents occupied the trees. In every direction, predators and prey alike went about their daily lives as they had for millions of years. Everything was perfect.
"Eh. Ah. Eh"
Well almost everything. The infant struggled to calm down. Clearly it lacked discipline and patience, but it was just a child. Luke figured that eventually the child would learn. Of course, he would be long dead before that happened, if Yoda's lifespan was anything to go by.
"Ehh...Ahhhh."
The child was sensing something. He knew that for sure because he was sensing the same presence. He had no idea why the child was whining so much. The presence he felt was comforting, pleasant even. It was also very, very familiar. He ceased his meditation and opened his eyes to see the guest in front of him.
"Ahsoka." He said, a small smile crossing his face. "It's good to see you again." He stood up to face the togruta directly.
"It's good to see you too." She replied, her smile was warm and inviting. Her presence was like that of a benevolent matriarch. Just like he had always remembered. "How's your 'Jedi Academy' going?"
"It's a...work in progress," he replied. He turned to the ant like droids, silently and dutifully constructing the stone shelter nearby. It was a small humble abode, but he believed it would be perfectly adequate for his needs. "How's your search for Grand Admiral Thrawn?"
"A work in progress." she responded gracefully. She stood next to him and wrapped her arm around his shoulder, prompting Luke to wrap his around her waist. She rested her head on his shoulder and breathed deeply before continuing. "You know, the temple on Coruscant is completely vacant. You're a hero of the New Republic. You could move right in, they would probably give you the key. No questions asked."
"We're not going back to Coruscant." Luke replied. "The Republic failed us . Or we failed them. Or both." He decoupled from his former tutor and kneeled down onto the grass. He watched the droids do their work as he spoke. "Whatever the case, we need to go our separate ways. The Republic can operate on its own, and we'll build our own society. Just like in the ancient days of the Je'daii. Besides I doubt there's anything left for us there except the building."
"I guess I can't fault your reasoning. Still though. Starting over from scratch. It seems like quite the endeavor."
"So is becoming a Jedi. I managed that well enough."
"Yeah, barely."
