Best of Castle Part 22

Season 5 Episode 21

Kate was called to a murder scene where a guy was held up. The squad of officers stormed to apartment and the murdered tried to escape out he back. They caught him and Kate, Castle as few other law enforcement entered the apartment, looking for clues to we was going to strike next.

Kate circled the island in the kitchen and she, along with Castle heard a click. She knew immediately she had triggered a pressure device that if she moved off of would explode and take them all out.

Over the next several hours they tried to disarm it, but couldn't find a way. The murderer who was in custody was in a holding cell. When Javi went to question him about how to disarm the bomb, they found he had committed suicide. They were back to square one. To make matters worse, the bomb disposal crew got a look at the bomb and found it had a timer on it and they had only thirty minutes before it went off.

They tried every possibility, but kept on hitting a wall.

Castle suddenly realized that the murderer was there to lure a social worker in. He wanted info on his son's whereabouts. They had only ten minutes left and Kate made Castle promise to leave. She didn't want him to die along with her.

He left and a minute late, he returned, "Castle, you promised to leave."

He scoffed, "I did, but I didn't promise not to return." He worked frantically. Javi found out the murderer had a son named William. He told Castle. Castle looked to Kate, "We have only one shot at this. It's a five character entry to stop the bomb. should I go for it?"

Kate nodded, "We have less than twenty seconds."

Castle took a shot and keyed in B-I-L-L-Y and they both heard a click and Kate looked to Castle. She stepped off the plate and she was free. She threw her arms around Castle and he guided her out of the apartment. Once out they were met by the entire precinct, including Captain Gates.

Kate stopped and outside she turned to him, "Listen, Castle, thank you for staying with me."

He stared back at her, "Always."

Kevin came over and hugged Castle, Castle chuckled, "Perfect timing"

Javi hugged Kate, "You good?"

She hugged him tighter, "Yeah, did she see?"

He scoffed, "No!"

Gates came over to the two of them, "Glad to see you, Detective. Even you, Mr. Castle. I have to say, I don't know too many men who would've done what you did."

Kate turned and smiled at Castle, "Neither do I." They both stared at the ground.

Gates threw up her hands, "Oh, for heaven's sakes, Detective. Just kiss the man."

Kate was dumbfounded and stared at Gates, "Sir, you know?"

"What? Do you think I'm an idiot? I needed to maintain plausible deniability, which I can can continue as long as you can both act professionally at the precinct."

Castle raised his hand, "I know I can, but, Captain, she has a long history of coming on to me at work...."

"Kate cut him off, "I don't think it'll be a problem, sir.""

Gates nodded, "Good! Meanwhile, as long as we're on neutral ground here, I'd say he deserves it, wouldn't you?"

Kate was grinning from ear to ear, "Yes, sir, I would." They turned towards each other and she wrapped her arms around his neck and they plastered their lips together in a torrid kiss.

As they parted and headed back towards the car, they passed Gates and she cleared her throat, "You know Mr. Castle, now that your relationship is out in the open, remember what we talked about that Valentine's Day evening?"

He chuckled, "Yes, I do, and Detective Beckett here is onboard too. We'll talk, but for now, we have some making up to do, just the two of us."

Gate chuckled, "Sounds good, you two go and have a nice evening."

They left and they did.

Season 5 Episode 22

A billionaire, Eric Vaughn (Ioan Gruffudd), was having dinner with one of his colleague at an exclusive restaurant. He ordered the squab and his colleague ordered the quail. When they were brought to them, the perfectly cooked birds, the waiter mistakenly served the birds reversed. A few moments after they began to eat, Eric's colleague began foaming at the mouth. He fell over and died; he was poisoned.

After he was taken away, they found out that the poisoned bird was served to the wrong person. The poisoned bird was meant for Eric Vaughn.

While this was happening, back at Castle's loft, Castle was totally immersed in a video game he was winning. He called out to the TV, I have something special for you. He killed the guy on the screen, Suddenly Beckett came sliding across the opening of the bedroom and called out to him, "And I got something special for you, too." She was dressed in only one of his long, blue dress shirt and nothing else. Her long, golden, brunette hair was down and looked wild about her half naked body. She looked back at him, and slowly stripped the shirt off one shoulder, showing her partially naked figure.

He turned away from the TV and stared at her luscious legs. "Well, that's not looking so good."

She whipped around her gorgeous breast barely contained in her black bra, "What? Castle..."

He put his finger up, he was listening to someone in his earpiece.

She put her shirt back on, "What the fuck Castle?! Would you rather play with a kid in an imaginary world, or with this...In the real world?" She stripped off her shirt and stood there in matching panties and bra." She ran her hands through her hair and she was stunned he didn't make a move towards her instead of a fucking video game. "Oh my God!"

He looked towards her, "What?"

She screamed out, "Oh, my God! You actually have to think about this!"

He continued to play, "NO!" He suddenly lost and put down the controller, "No, I don't have to think about it. Come on over here."

Her mouth dropped open, "Are you fucking kidding me?

He wasn't sure, "What?"

"You know what? Forget it" She walked back into the bedroom.

He threw up his hands, "Seriously. I died on purpose for you."

She growled out, "Whatever."

He chased after her, "Come on. What?"

It didn't matter, she was called to the murder at the restaurant, but he tried to recover, "I'm sorry. You know how I get when I'm gaming. I was in the zone. I was like Gretzky."

She scoffed, "Well, at least Gretzky knew how to score."

He frowned, "Ouch, okay! Look, again, I'm very, very sorry. Do you forgive me?"

She was still upset, "You know, Castle, it wasn't too long ago when me wearing a sexy outfit would get an immediate response from you."

"What are you saying? That I'm taking you for granted?"

"I don't know, Castle. Are you?"

She didn't get an answer. They were at the scene where the guy Arthur Felder, 54 was the victim. He was a wealthy venture capitalist.

While Kate was talking to Lanie, Castle turned and saw Eric Vaughn. He asked Ryan it that who he was.

"Yeah, he was part of the victim's dinner party"

Kate turned and drooled when she saw him, "He's that billionaire inventor, right?"

Castle nodded, "Yeah. Inventor, innovator, and number eight on my Last Supper List."

Vaughn was on the phone and Kate called out, "Mr. Vaughn?" He put up his finger to wait a moment. She was getting upset, and she spoke louder, "Excuse me, Hey!"

He looked to her and continued talking on the phone, "Fantastic. Thank you," and he hung up. He came over to her and she berated him, "This is a murder investigation. I'm gonna need your full attention."

He came closer, "I'm so sorry. That was my pilot. Arthur's family in the Caribbean. I was arranging for my plane to bring them home."

She saw stunned and didn't know what to say, "Yeah, well, that's very generous of you, Mr. Vaughn."

He reached out his hand to shake her hand, "No, please, call me Eric. And you are?"

"I'm Detective Kate Beckett" Castle reached out, "And I'm Richard Castle."

"Oh, the writer?

He nodded, "Yeah.

"My mother loves your novels."

Kate questioned him,"So, how well did you know our victim?"

"We'd been doing business for many years, but we weren't close, I'm afraid."

"Any idea who would want him dead?""

"None. This whole thing is terrible."

Javi came over, "Hey, Beckett. So normally only a handful of wait staff handle each entree, but in this case it could've been somebody from the outside. There was a kitchen door propped open, and CSU found this waiter's vest stashed in the dumpster." She turned back and stared at the handsome Eric as he was talking to his associates. She looked towards Castle and he noticed how she was checking Vaughn out. She shook her head,"What?"

"Looks as though Vaughn is on your list as well."

She scoffed, "Oh! Things you notice when you're paying attention, Castle." She felt a moisture growing between her legs, but she tried to hide it.

Later, Lanie went over the autopsy, "The poison was fast acting. The mushrooms he was eating never reached his stomach."

Castle caught that, "I saw the menu. The mushrooms were served with the quail, not the squab."

Kate turned to him, "That's right. So Ryan said Felder had the squad. The server screwed up and gave him the wrong dish. The poisoned bird was meant for Vaughn."

The next day Kate had Vaughn in the squad room, "You mean to say that poison was meant for me?"

Kate nodded, "It seems that way."

"Good God. What am I gonna tell Arthur's wife?"

"Mr Vaughn...."

"Eric, please."

"Eric, I understand your concern, but right now I think we need to focus on you. Do you know of anyone that would want you dead?"

"No. But you don't get to where I am without making enemies. When one of my innovations succeeds, it often means that someone else's fails, and being high profile, people tend to want things from me, or get angry for things that I can't control."

Kate added,"Well, it sounds like being Eric Vaughn has its price."

He let out a deep breath, "Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining. I'm sure you face much tougher situations every day."

She was impressed and smiled, "Well, you know, when someone is trying to kill you, I think you have every right to complain. So what about recently? Have you received any threats?"

He took a seat across from her, "Not that I'm away of. But if my people don't think it's serious, they often don't bother to tell me. My assistant, Petra, can get you the file. Detective, whoever did this is still out there. It would be crazy to assume they might try again."

She nodded, "No, it wouldn't. Look, I can assign some uniformed officers to you, but I think, until we figure out who's behind this, you might consider hiring private security."

Kate entered the coffee room and Castle handed her a cup with a heart shaped creamer on it. He asked her, "So what did you and Vaughn talk about.

She looked at him, "Wait a minute, is this... are you.. is this you being jealous?"

He scoffed, "Jealous?" He paused, "YES! The guy won a MacArthur Genius Award. You know who they give those awards to? Geniuses. Okay, he's got one company bringing clean water to Africa and another one that might actually cure cancer. So, yes, when you're in a room with him, alone, I'm a little jealous. I saw how you looked at him."

She was staring at him, smiling. She liked he was jealous. "Oh, my gosh, Castle, it's Eric Vaughn. He was voted one of the hundred most interesting people on the planet. Of course I'm gonna swoon a little. Just like you would if Bar Refaeli walked through the door. But it's meaningless."

He felt bad, "Yeah, You're right. It's just... The guy's so impressive."

She smiled up at him, "But he's not you. Besides, the guy could get any woman he wants. He's not interested in me."

Just then, Gates came into the room, "Okay, I just spoke with the Commissioner, and he's agreed to provide Vaughn with a protective detail."

Kate got up, "Great, I actually have a few uniforms that I'd like to recommend for duty."

Gates shook her head, "No! Mr. Vaughn had requested you."

Castle whipped his head around, "He what now?"

Kate added, "Sir, I'm a homicide detective, not some bodyguard."

Gates added, "Trust me, I know. But this comes directly from the Commissioner. He wants Detective Beckett, and only Beckett."

Later Javi tried to worry Castle,"Beckett's hanging with Vaughn? Oh, hell, yeah, you should be worried. His hit list included half of Maxim's Hot 100. Oh, and unlike you, his helicopter doesn't need a remote control."

Kevin spoke up, "Don't listen to him, Castle. Beckett's loyal to you. She's not gonna be seduced by his charms."

"Really? So, you'd let Jenny hang with him, then?"

"Oh hell no. I wouldn't let Jenny near that guy."

Castle rolled his eyes, "Thanks!"

At Vaughn's building, Kate was talking to him, "This is a mistake. The best way for me to keep you alive is to get out there and catch the guy that's behind this."

He was having wet dreams about her. He looked at her in that black turtleneck blouse and her long golden brunette hair in waves about her shoulders and chest. All he could think about was having that hair spread over his body as her full, rich lips sucked at his large, stiff cock. "You're underestimating yourself, Detective. I'm quite sure you can do both."

She turned to him, "And are you willing to bet your life on that? You don't even know me."

"I know enough. You graduated the top of your class. You're the youngest woman in the history of the NYPD to make detective. You have the highest closure rate of anyone in the department. And earlier this year, you bucked every protocol to save a Senator's life. Do you have any idea how remarkable you are." She looked uncomfortable. He added, "You don't, do you? If anyone can keep me safe, it's you."

Kate returned to the precinct when she heard they had a lead. Castle turned to Kate and Gates, "Maybe someone at the restaurant knew what the waiter was up to. We should go back there."

Gates agreed and added, "You and the boys can back there, Mr. Castle. Beckett's going to the Fairwyck Hotel."

Castle asked Kate, "What's at the Fairwyck"

Kate shrugged and Gates spoke up, "Eric Vaughn. As long as we have a killer running around, I need him somewhere safe. So, he booked the presidential suite. And from now until the time we catch whoever's behind all this, you're staying there with him."

Castle was pissed, "In the presidential suite?"

Kate was speechless, "Uh, sir, are you serious? You want me to babysit this guy?"

"He's insisting; apparently you made quite an impression. Detective, I know how you feel, but whoever killed that busboy was a pro, which means he may strike again. And I am not going to lose one of the world's most influential men on my watch."

Castle was furious and he didn't wait for Kate to reply or Gates to say any more. He turned and walked out of her office. He was fuming! He went to Kate's desk and sat down. She came out and as she approached her began, "You know, it's one thing to follow him around, but quite another to be shacking up with him."

She stood over him, "Castle, I am not shacking up with him. I'm just doing my job."

He looked up at her, "Right." He looked back down, not wanting to even look at her.

She paused and stared at him, "You don't trust me."

He was still short, "Oh, no, of course I trust you."

"No, you don't. That's what this is all about, otherwise this wouldn't be an issue."

From behind them, Eric came towards them, "Shall we?"

Castle looked back at him. He looked up at Kate and she glared at Castle and replied, "Yes." She turned and left with Eric Vaughn.

They arrived at the presidential suite. Eric carried two bags, while Kate had her coat and a rolling suitcase. He swung open the doors, and she walked in, "Wow! This is the nicest safe house I've ever seen."

He had his hands in his pockets, "Well, if someone's trying to kill you, you might as well make the most of it, eh"

She stared at him and he at her and they both smiled. She looked about, "I should get to work."

Later he was on the phone with his associate, "Apologies to Novatech, and let's cancel the MexiSolar trip until summer. Thanks, Petra."

She was scanning the threats, "When were you last in contact with Jeff Sussman?"

"It's not Sussman."

"Well, you fired him and he was convicted of embezzling. That sounds like a suspect to me."

"Look, the guy screwed up and paid for it. But I set his mother up in an assisted living facility. Jeff was grateful. It's not him."

There was a knock on the door and Kate grabbed her gun, "Are you expecting anyone?" She went to answer it. "

"I took the liberty of ordering some room service."

The waiter smiled, "Good evening ma'am. May I come in?"

"Actually, no. Sorry." She slammed the door closed.

Eric was behind her, "Hey...."

She cut him off. "Listen, given the way that Felder was killer, I would prefer if my people oversaw the food preparation."

He nodded, "May I at least grab the champagne? It is sealed."

He had her pinned against the door and once again, she stared up at him and got that same feeling deep in her groin, "Yeah, okay, fine."

He grabbed the bottle and two glassed. She walked away, "I'll make sure we get some food up here.

He shrugged, "That's okay. We have the essentials. Pour you a glass?"

"No, thank you. I'm on duty."

He worked on opening the champagne, "You take your work seriously. I like that about you."

She sat down and continued to review the threats against him.

"Makes me feel safe." He pulled on the cork and it shot open and hit him in the forehead. He flopped down on the sofa, "Oh, oh!"

Kate got up and ran towards him, "Oh, my God! Are you.... Are you okay?" she knelt before him.

He held his head and started laughing, "Yes. I think you're gonna have to protect me from myself."

She was still kneeling before him and she was laughing too now. She got up, "Okay, I'm gonna go and get you some ice, okay?" She returned with some ice in a napkin and went to put it on his forehead, "Here. That should help with the swelling."

He took it, "Yes. But not my pride. You know, with your bedside manner, you could've been a doctor."

"Me? No. No. A lawyer maybe. I was pre-law. I could've represented you in your case against the cork."

He chuckled, "But instead you became a cop. Why?"

She was again kneeling in front of him, "Ah, someone close to me was killed, and that just changed things and changed me."

He nodded, "Mmm, you know, I was supposed to be an architect. No seriously. But my sister died when I was in college. Heart defect. So I dropped out and invented a new heart valve. That was my first patent. It's amazing how fate changes lives, isn't it?"

She had the urge to jump his bones. She licked her lips, "I should get back to work."

He stopped her and whispered,"At least have a glass of champagne. I mean, I suffered for it, after all."

She let out a sigh, "Okay, fine. You know what, if you put it that way. But just half a glass, okay?"

He nodded, Go on, three quarters.

She laughed and stood, "Yeah."

Castle continued to work the case. They tracked down the busboy getting the poison from a guy at the bus stop. They blew up the picture and Kevin and Castle took it to the hotel. Kevin showed Eric the photo and he looked at it, "Look, I wish I could help you, but I simply just don't know him."

Kate turned to Kevin, "Ryan, we gotta go over that video again."

Castle was walking around the suite and he didn't like what he saw. He saw the champagne open and two glass filled.

Kate excused herself and went to see Castle in her bedroom. When she got there he spoke up, "Looks as though you two were enjoying yourselves."

She took a deep breath, "Castle."

He added, "What about pajamas" Homely flannel, or skimpy sleep shorts?"

She rolled her eyes, "Oh, my gosh, you're sounding like my dad dropping me off at summer camp."
