Five villainous female patrons of the run-down harbour side tavern called 'The Happy Haddock' were still as statues as the stranger who introduced herself as Talia stood at their presents.
"Daughter of the demon's what?!" Confused Harley Quinn.
"Demon's head." Confirmed Talia looking down at the women with her beautiful right eye as her left was covered by her long, straight, dark brown hair.
"Listen sister!" Said Poison Ivy. "Where do you get off calling us pathetic."
Chuckling softly, Talia replied, "watching all of you think you are good enough to tame the man in the cape and cowl. It's so humorous that any woman could believe they can claim my beloved."
"Beloved?!" Roxy Rocket gasped.
"And I thought he had the hots for cat lady." Added Harley.
"Just who exactly are you?" Candice enquired.
"My full name is Talia Al Ghul." She explained. "Daughter to the head of the Society of Shadows, Ra's Al Ghul. And the only woman that holds claim to the one you call Batman."
"Society of Shadows!" Muttered Red Claw in awe.
"Oh yeah Tally!" Piped Harley. "So, ya think ya better than us cus ya think ya the dark knight's girlfriend?!"
"He is more man than any of you could ever handle." Talia laughed. "Those eyes, his well sculpted face, his immaculate hair, his high level of intelligence matched only by his wonderous body. I can see why my father respected him and thought him worthy to succeed him to lead the Society of Shadows."
"His well sculpted face?" Paused Candice.
"His immaculate hair?" Added Ivy.
After a few moments of silence Candice shot to her feet, aiming a pistol towards Talia. As too did Harley and Ivy with the former readying her oversized mallet, and the latter aiming her wrist mounted crossbow at Talia also.
"You know his secret identity, don't you!" Snapped Candice.
Talia stood unfazed; a smirk grew across her lips that confirmed Candice's suspicions. Roxy was taken aback by the increasingly volatile situation
"Unless you tell us who he is, you'll be wishing for death's sweet release when we're done with you!" Ivy commanded.
Red Claw went into action, shooting to her feet also before barking, "what in the hell are you all doing?!"
"Whadda ya think Claw!" Replied Harley. "We're gunna make this broad tell us who the B man is!"
"Didn't you all listened to what she said?!" Claw responded. "She's the daughter of Ra's Al Ghul! The head of the Society of Shadows! You so much as harm a hair on her head and you'll have an army of the world's best trained assassins on you in an instant to cut you into millions of pieces!"
Pointing to the shadowy section of the tavern, Claw showed the others the two well concealed female ninjas that stood ready to defend their mistress. "My organisation know of the Society of Shadows, and even we would be reluctant to cross them. This place is probably covered by them."
Seeing their chances of survival shrink to zero the three ladies decided to step down, returning to their seats as they withdraw their weapons. "A wise decision ladies." Said Talia as she took her own seat at the table, picking up the playing cards before shuffling the deck.
"So, your father believes that Batman would take over the Society of Shadows when he steps down?" Enquired Roxy. "Not being funny sugar, but I'm sure the rest of us can agree, the Batman is not the killing type."
The other ladies agreed with Roxy's statement before Talia answered her question. "Alas, that is the one thing that my father and my beloved don't see eye to eye with. Despite my father's intentions, Batman will not conform to our ways to save the world. But I am torn between my loyalty to my father and my love for the dark knight. Hopefully one day, I can convince him to join our worthy cause."
"So, what brings you here to Gotham?" Ivy inquired.
"Business involving the league." Talia responded. "While I was in the city one of my spies informed me that you all have gathered at this establishment. I was curious to see the other ladies he must deal with in his city. The supposed 'competition' you could say."
The other ladies grumbled quietly before Roxy asked, "so you have a story to tell about crossing paths with Batman?"
"Indeed, I do." Talia confirmed. "And unlike all of you, I was successful."
Talia began her tale, making sure to keep Batman's identity a secret to her audience.
In an extravagant mansion located on the outskirts of a western European city, Batman was sitting on the edge of an elegant, queen size bed while Talia was tending to some wounds he had accumulated.
A bunch of assassins from the Society of Shadows went rouge in an attempt to hold cities at ransom using a deadly bioweapon from the Society of Shadows' arsenal. In their respective missions to stop them, both Talia and Batman agreed to join forces, enabling them to stop the rouge assassins, and disposing the bioweapon they planned to use.
The dark knight seated topless on the bed while Talia was disinfecting a cut across his back. The solution she used sting him harshly, forcing him to grunt in some pain.
"My beloved, I'm sorry to do this. It too also pains me to see you suffering." Comforted Talia. "It's... alright." He replied. "It cannot be helped; I should have reacted faster before he could strike me with his blade. But I'm thankful that you are safe."
"Oh, stop it, you are making me blush!" Talia confessed as she applied a bandage to Batman's cut.
She paused momentarily, admiring his chiselled back, feeling each bit of toned muscle that took years of extensive training to develop and create. "My beloved, let me check your face." She requested.
"I'm fine Talia." He softly assured. "I'm..." "please." She interrupted. "Just to put my own mind at rest."
He paused for a moment in silence, making it feel like a lifetime has passed. She could see he was lowering the many levels of mental defences that Bruce Wayne had developed over the many years as the dark knight, all before removing the final layer that was his cowl.
Despite a small cut on the side of his forehead, he was physically fine. "Let me get something for that Bruce." She soothed softly before rising to her feet.
The clacking of her high heels across the smooth marbled floor broke the silence in the room as she headed towards a desk at the side of the room. After she took out a band-aid from one of the draws she poured herself and Bruce a glass of water before returning to him.
Handing him his glass, Talia sat beside Bruce as he took a swig of the water, consuming half of the glass's contents. After his drink, she looked at the cut on his forehead, carefully applying the band-aid over it.
"Much better." She softened, looking deeply into his eyes with loving affection with the light of the full moon shining through the balcony overlooking the city. Gently caressing the side of Bruce's face with one hand, she slowly leaned forward to kiss him, only for Bruce to take her hand softly away from his face. "I have to get back to Gotham." He explained softly to her disappointment.
Talia watched him rise to his feet, reaching for the top portion of his costume on the bedside table. "Must you leave my beloved?"
"I'm afraid so." Replied Bruce. "The assassins have been stopped, and the weapon destroyed. I know your father's organisation has nothing to do with any of this. I must return to make sure Gotham is secured."
"I'm glad you know that beloved, should my father have been here instead if you he would have them all executed for defying the Society." She scolded.
"That's what make me different from your father." Bruce explained. "I don't take lives like the Society of Shadows do. I'd let the law deal with criminals like them. That's why I cannot take over from your father."
He stood in silence, looking at the cowl in his hands, at the man he had become, the values that man stood for.
"Forgive me my beloved." Said Talia as she walked slowly to Bruce, leaning on his back with her hands on his masculine arms. "My temper got the better of me."
The side of her head pressed gently on his upper back. In the silence between the two she listened to his heart beating strongly in his body. "I know you and my father have different philosophies. I'm stuck in the middle between the two men I love with all my heart, and it pains me to see you two at ends with different mindsets on life. I... I just don't want you to go."
