"And today's weather calls for Sunny with a high of 75 degrees. And back to you, Joan!"
Naomi stirred. She reached over, felt around on the side table and found the radio alarm clock.
"Thanks Jim. In today's head..."
Naomi immediately found the 'Snooze' button and pressed it. She slowly opened her eyes. The alarm clock read '6:01'. Naomi starred at the red number until it changed to '6:02'.
"Time to get up. Time to get the kids up!" Naomi thought.
Naomi slowly sat up in bed. She rubbed her eyes and yawned. Naomi stretched out her arms and yawned again. She reached for lamp and turned it on.
"What a day yesterday was." She thought as she felt for her slippers. Naomi slipped them on and stood up slowly. She stretched again. Naomi slowly walked to the door and turned the lights. She opened the door and headed for the kids' room. Naomi opened the door slowly and found that her children were still sleeping. She quietly walked in, turned on the reading lamp and slowly shook the boy.
"Wake up, Son." Naomi whispered as she gently shook the boy. "Wake up. Time for school."
The boy stirred and slowly opened his eyes.
"Mom? Five more minutes, please." the boy asked.
"Come on now. Time to get up." Naomi repeated, a little louder this time.
"Morning Mama." a voice in the dark said. It was her little girl.
"Why? Morning Sweetheart. Time for breakfast and school." Naomi said to her girl.
Naomi turned her attention to her son once more.
"Come on, kiddo! Up and at 'em!" Naomi said. She got up from the bed, headed for the light switch and turned it on.
The boy squinted. He tried to hide by covering his face with the duvet. Naomi smiles,, walked over and slowly tugged on the bottom of the duvet. His face finally started to appear. He squinted again, grabbed the duvet and pulled. Naomi pulled back. A tug of war contest at six in the morning.
"Come on! Get up! Time for breakfast and school!" Naomi said, quite loudly now.
"Need any help, Dear?" a voice asked. It was her Mom.
"I know what to do! It worked on you, Ana and your brothers." Mom said.
"Be my guest!" Naomi replied.
Her Mom walked in and sat next to boy. Naomi walked to her girl and asked her what she wanted for breakfast.
Naomi helped her girl out of bed and into her slippers.
"Ma? I'll be downstairs, making oatmeal for the kids." Naomi said.
"Morning Grandma!" the girl said.
"Morning Sweetheart!" Mom replied. "See you downstairs!"
"Okay!" the girl said.
"Oatmeal? I hate oatmeal!" the boy added.
"Okay Dear. See you downstairs." Mom said as Naomi and her daughter headed for the kitchen.
"Young man?" Mom said.
"Yes, Grandma?" the boy replied.
Mom told her Grandson a story about his two uncles and football. His two uncles wanted to play football for their high school team but they weren't too big. But they tried out nonetheless. Unfortunately, both were cut from the team. Disappointed from being cut, his uncles walked home. They told the family that they were cut but the Coach didn't explain why they were cut. So, Mom decided to ask the Coach the very next day. The excuse was that the two boys were no big enough. In Mom's mind, that was what it was. Just an excuse. Undaunted, Mom consulted with Dad and they decided to do something. While Mom prepared the meals, Dad set up a gym in the garage.
Mom fed her boys oatmeal for breakfast everyday and Dad would train his boys for one hour after dinner. In one year, both boys grew 6 to 7 inches each and gained fifty to seventy pounds of solid muscle. One boy was a Freshman while the other was a Sophomore. So, one Fall day, Mom took both her boys and went back to the school. She saw that football practice was going on. Mom approached the Coach and asked his if her boys are big enough to play the sport.
The Coach was impressed with their size but not nearly impressed enough to let two unproven boys play on his team, let alone try out. So, the Coach said that if the boys could take him down in an one-on-one match up, he'll let them be part of the team.
So, of course, practice ended and everyone looked on. The Coach was bigger than the two boys but not by much. Unfortunately, the Coach won. However, Mom said best 2 out of 3. The Coach agreed. The boys won the other two match-ups and made the team.
Grandma ended the story by telling her Grandson that oatmeal saved the day. By this time, Grandpa was standing at the door, smiling.
The boy was so impressed with the story that he quickly jumped out of bed, greeted his Grandfather and headed downstairs.
"The football story again?" Dad asked.
"Yep! Gets 'em every time!" Mom replied.
"What about my weight training and football tackling techniques?" Dad asked as he smiled.
"Just formalities!" Mom replied.
They both laughed as they headed downstairs to the kitchen.
After breakfast, Naomi headed upstairs to take a shower and change. Mom took the kids to the first floor bathroom to brush their teeth and wash their face. She then took the kids upstairs to change into their school clothing. Dad continued reading the paper and drinking his coffee.
Naomi grabbed her purse and headed downstairs. She paused momentarily in the kids' room to kissed them goodbye and then, she hugged Mom and wished her a wonderful day. Naomi continued to the stairs and headed downstairs. She wished her Dad a wonderful day and he, in turn, did likewise. He assured Naomi that the kids will be dropped off and picked up. Naomi walked over and gave her Dad a big hug. He hugged back and gave his Daughter a kiss on the cheek.
"See you later, Kiddo!" Dad said as Naomi headed for the front door. "Have a great day at work! See you tonight!"
"Bye Dad!" Naomi replied as she searched for her car keys. She found them and replied, "You too, Dad! See you later! Say bye to Mom and the kids! And Ana as well!"
"Will do!" Dad said.
Naomi opened the front door and exited the house. She closed the door behind her and headed for the SUV. She opened the door and climbed in. Naomi started the engine, backed out of the driveway and headed for work.
When Naomi arrived at work, she found that the door was still locked. She took out the keys from her purse and opened the door. Naomi disarmed the alarm and headed to the front reception. She turned on the lights and headed for her office. Just then, Piper walked into the office.
"Good morning, Naomi! Sorry I'm late!" Piper apologized.
"Good morning, Piper! You're not late! I'm early!" Naomi replied.
