"I just think she's not who you think she is, is all I'm saying." Gina said over the phone.
It was good to be talking with her again after a few rough weeks at the end of the previous year when it looked like she and Jack might have split for good. However that was long behind them now and with their relationship finally back to normal Gina had set her sights on Brandon's relationship with Alexis, his girlfriend of several months.
"You're just saying that because you liked Katy better and you know it. You haven't really tried to give Alexis a chance."
"I have too, and that bias goes both ways you know, I
never
bring up Katy, yet every time we talk somehow the argument turns into the fact that I like your ex better than I like her. Brandon, I know she's hot, seems really perfect, and that after Katy you don't want to bail on anyone, but trust me this will not end well for you, please at least think about what I said." Brandon gave no answer but he heard a sigh from the other end of the phone. "Just like Jack there is no convincing you once you've made up your mind, is there? I thought you were supposed to be the rational one, ah well, it's your life."
They exchanged goodbyes and Brandon was left wondering if she was right about Alexis. He trusted her judgment, but how could Alexis be what Gina said she was? After all Alexis was the most amazing, kind, and caring woman he had ever met, even more so than Katy had been. He was sure his family, especially Gina, would absolutely love her, but she had gotten a mostly lukewarm reception from them, and although some were not as outspoken as Gina had been, he knew silent disapproval from his family and friends when he saw it. Perhaps he was imagining it but it almost seemed his family was silently saying 'You dumped Katy, for
this
?'
At first Brandon was angered by this sentiment. After all, as Gina had said, it was his life and his decision. However, how could anyone not like Alexis? She was incredible, smart and caring, and she was a teacher, or trying to be. She was only waiting for a job to open, but the high school kids at her school loved her. Even Jack's kids had never had anything bad to say about her. Best of all she absolutely showered Brandon with attention. They didn't have much of a sex life because she was very religious and could not go on the pill. Which, given what happened with Katy, they felt it was best not to risk things too often. When they did though it was always a good time because, despite her conservative background, she was an animal in bed.
Brandon stepped into the gym in time to see Alexis talking to the cheerleaders she was coaching about some competition that weekend. Brandon looked at the girls grouped around Alexis and marveled at the uniforms that either they themselves or Alexis had selected for them. He was not sure if they were cheerleading uniforms or oddly designed swimsuits masquerading as cheerleading uniforms. He chuckled to himself... as if high school boys need
another
reason to stare at the cheerleaders.
Alexis dismissed the group and a few of the girls stopped to flirt with him, he assumed in jest, but with some he was not so sure.
"Sorry ladies, but you're about a decade too young for my taste," he said as Alexis approached. He then looked at her and smiled, "But your coach however..." He greeted his girlfriend with a deep kiss and the girls giggled.
When the kiss broke Alexis eyed the giggling girls and said, "Shouldn't you ladies be changing? Go on, scoot, he's mine you little teases." With that the remaining girls left and Brandon helped Alexis clean up the gym. As they finished up Alexis apologized, "Sorry about running late babe, but the competition is Saturday and we needed to make the most of this practice."
Brandon smiled, "I figured as much. That's why I didn't make an early reservation tonight."
