Rachel a single career women worked her way to a top executive position in a tech company. Her life was successful, great job, healthy financial portfolio, luxury home, she traveled the world, she could not have asked for more. But her life was missing something, her desire to have a baby. She was now 39 years old, and she knew her biological clock was ticking. She wasn't the only one, her best friend Sarah was also experiencing the same dilemma. Together they had a plan.
Rachel dated but never found a suitable partner. So, she researched sperm donor options. After going through hundreds of profiles, she never found any that she liked. She became frustrated and dejected. One night as she sat alone, she remembered about Ryder. Her first love, the only guy she truly loved. They met in college; they were meant for each other. Being with him was the best time in her life. They always joked about how together they would make beautiful babies. She always regretted that she put her career first causing them to drift apart. She lost contact with him, but never stopped thinking about him. Now 20 years had passed, she had a crazy thought.
She decided to search for him on the internet. He was now a first responder, a firefighter/paramedic. She then found an article about a tragedy in his life. 10 years ago, his wife and his two kids, a son and daughter were killed in a terrible car accident. She felt terrible for him. She wanted to reconnect with him, but didn't know how. Rachel told Sarah about Ryder and what she found out about him. Sarah said she had a friend in the Fire Department. She was told that Ryder was a Captain in the Fire Department, and he teaches a citizen CPR class on certain weekends. Rachel decided to sign up for his CPR class.
On the day of the CPR class, she was very nervous not knowing if Ryder would remember her. The class had 12 people, and he walked in and introduced himself as Fire Captain Ryder. He looked handsome as ever, just as she remembered. As he read the attendance list, when he saw Rachel's name, he looked, and they made eye contact. She smiled at him. He recognized her and was surprised to see her. He didn't want to make a scene, so he conducted the class as normal. But she could see him always glancing at her. At the end of the class, they were given a written test and when they finished, they could pick up their CPR Certification Cards from the table. Rachel finished her test and looked for her card, but it wasn't there. She then approached Ryder.
"There's no card for me."
"That's because I wanted to hand it to you personally, Rachel."
He smiled, "I'm shocked to see you. I'm kind of speechless."
Rachel hugged him, "It's so nice to see you again. Do you have time for coffee or something?"
"Give me a few minutes to finish up."
They went to a nearby coffee shop to catch up. As they talked, Rachel could feel the chemistry between them was still there.
After about 30 minutes, Ryder said, "I'm sorry Rachel, but I have to go. I forgot. I have something important that I have to take care of. If it's ok. Can we meet tomorrow?"
"Sure, love to."
"I'll text you." as they exchanged numbers.
Rachel was amazed that Ryder had not changed much. He looked more mature, still handsome as she remembered. He still had that sexy calming demeanor.
The next morning, she got the text. He told her to meet him at the City Park. She went to location he gave her. It was grassy hill overlooking the city landscape. Ryder was already waiting for her.
"I brought sandwiches for lunch. Hope you still like Salami and Swiss on sourdough, no pickles."
"Oh, my god. You still remember after all these years."
They sat talking, reminiscing and enjoying each other's company. Rachel decided to go for it.
"So, are you married?"
Ryder was quiet, then said, "I was married. I had a son and daughter. But they're gone now."
"What happened?"
"They were killed in a pileup traffic accident 10 years ago. It took me some time to get through it. But I'm good now."
She hugged him. "I'm so sorry for your loss."
"I accepted it and moved on."
"So, is there someone else?"
"Not really. I have dated but nobody special. That's because of you. You raised the bar so high."
"You're kidding me?"
"I mean it. You still have a special place in my heart. How can I forget what we once had. And what about you?"
"I never married. Never found anyone special, not that I haven't tried."
"As beautiful as you are, I'm surprised that you're still single."
Ryder's cell buzzed. " I'm really sorry. I'm the on-call guy. I have to go. I will make it up to you."
Rachel could feel the love between her and Ryder was still there. She just needed the right time to ask him. Ryder called her 2 days later, told her they have a reservation at his favorite downtown restaurant.
Rachel arrived wearing an emerald, green halter dress.
Ryder remarked. "Wow! You look gorgeous!"
"You like?"
"Of course, still sexy as ever."
They enjoyed a nice dinner. After dinner Ryder suggested they go to the bar lounge at the Ritz Hotel. They had drinks and talked. Rachel asked him about his wife and kids. He told her all about them.
"You're the first person that I ever felt comfortable talking about them. Thank you. It felt nice being able to tell someone about them."
"May I ask, could I see a picture of them?" It gave her a glimpse of what her child with him might look like. "Your wife and kids were beautiful."
"I miss them. I miss being a dad. But I had to move on."
He had just opened the door, and she jump at the opportunity. She confessed that she regretted how their relationship ended. She admitted that she never stopped loving him.
Ryder responded, "I always wondered about us. What if?"
Rachel said, "Remember when we were together. We always joked about how we would make beautiful babies."
" I do remember that."
Ryder had light brown hair, hazel eyes with a 5'-11" athletic body. His parents were Asian and White.
Rachel had auburn hair, green eyes with a 5'-7" hourglass figure. Her parents were of Irish and Dutch descent.
With that combination they thought their children would be beautiful.
Rachel told him about how she wanted a child and her dilemma finding a donor.
"So, how would you like to be a dad again? I still think together we could make a beautiful child. If you still do, would you consider being my sperm donor? NO, I want you to be my sperm donor!"
Ryder thought it must have been fate that brought them back together again. He still loved her, and he did want to be a dad again. He smiled at her and then he kissed her.
Sarah remarked, "So, I am going to take that as a Yes!"
He grabbed her and they kissed passionately. As they continued making out, they both could feel the passion that they once had reignited.
Rachel said, "Excuse me. I'll be right back. Don't you go anywhere!"
He waited for several minutes before she came back.
She grabbed his hand. "Come with me. Don't ask any questions." As they got into the elevator.
They exited the elevator on the 11th floor.
"She excitedly said, "I think I'm ovulating. So, I got us a room. If that's ok with you?"
He laughed, "Rachel, you are so crazy. I love it. I miss that craziness."
