Before diving into The Theory of Love, I want to take a moment to give credit where it's due. This story was originally conceptualized by JasonJJones2012, and with his blessing, I took on the task of expanding it into something larger.

The foundation of this story--the premise, the characters, and the emotional depth--stems from his original vision. However, through further development, character exploration, and additional narrative layers, I've shaped it into something that reflects both his ideas and my own creative interpretation.

I had the privilege of sharing Part 1 with Jason, and I'm happy to say that he fully supports how the story has evolved. His feedback and encouragement have been invaluable, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to bring this concept to life in a way that honors his original idea while making it my own.

For those familiar with Jason's work, you may have noticed his absence from Literotica. While he's currently taking a break, I and many others hope he finds his way back to writing when the time feels right for him. Until then, I just want to extend my gratitude for the inspiration he provided and for trusting me to carry this story forward.

To those reading this, I hope you enjoy the journey of The Theory of Love as much as I've enjoyed writing it.

Happy reading!

This version of The Theory of Love Ch. 01 has been updated and edited as of 13.05.2025 to reflect the ongoing small changes to the overall plot.

The university cafeteria was filled with the low-level hum of background chatter, occasionally broken by a barked laugh or shout from the groups of students scattered around. Hannah's voice broke through the noise, bringing my attention back to the table. "Oh, come on, Jess! You have to do it, it's too late to back out now!" she said, stealing a chip from my plate before I could stop her.

I slid my tray out of her reach. "Why choose a salad if you're going to steal my chips?"

Hannah flipped me a middle finger. "Stop ignoring me. You agreed to do this and now you're pulling soft at the last minute? The girls are going to be so pissed with you."

She had a point. The previous weekend involved a heavy drinking session in our dorms followed by games, bets, and dares. I had lost a particularly bad bet and had been tasked with seducing one of the many nerds drifting around campus for their amusement.

"Then why don't they do it, if they're so invested?" I asked, already knowing the answer.

"Because it's your forfeit, not theirs! Rachel and Kat have done theirs. I've done mine. Now it's your turn. You're the last one."

I raised an eyebrow. "You already did yours?"

Hannah smirked. She quickly took out her phone, opened her gallery, and slid it across the table to me. I saw the photo and quickly locked the screen before anyone could see it. There was my best friend, on her knees sucking what looked like a good-sized cock.

I quickly hid the screen. "Hannah! What if someone sees!? When did you do this!?"

Hannah grinned. "This morning. All it took was a quick trip to the gym and some overt flirting. Simon's pretty hung, isn't he?"

"That's Simon Perkins!? Hannah, he's an arrogant prick!"

"He's got a big prick," she replied. "But enough about me and him. This is aboutย you. It's Friday and you still haven't fulfilled your duties. You have less than a day to do it."

I sighed and scanned the hall. Students were sitting together in their friendship groups according to social standing. The popular guys were gathered around a table near the door, laughing at something Simon Perkins had said. I shuddered, recalling the image of his cock. It was not a pretty sight. Unfortunately, he chose that moment to look at me at me. Our eyes met and his gaze was nothing short of predatory. I'd hooked up with several others at the table but always stayed clear of him. He was just too full of himself for me to find him attractive, despite what many others said.

I quickly diverted my gaze to the other tables. A group of what could be classified as nerds were sitting on a table in the far corner. They looked happy enough, talking to each other without a care in the world.

"See something you like?" During my scan, Simon had walked over to our table.

"Definitely not," I replied, continuing my search.

"She's picking out a geek to seduce," Hannah supplied. "She lost a bet and it's the forfeit."

"I don't mind being a nerd for a night," Simon said smoothly. "I promise you a lot of fun and it'll tick off your forfeit."

I looked at Simon, letting my aggravation show. He was nice enough looking, tall with sandy hair, aย chiselled jaw, and broad shoulders. But all his desirable features were offset by his personality. "Thanks but no thanks. It wouldn't tick off my forfeit and I don't think it'd be that fun."

He responded without missing a beat. "Why don't you give me a chance to prove you wrong? If you need proof, I'm sure Hannah can vouch for me."

Hannah smirked and nodded.

I turned away from him. "You're starting to annoy me now. Take no for an answer, Simon."

He chuckled behind me. "It's cute when you play hard to get. We're having a party at our place tomorrow night, get all the girls and come over."

I barely heard Hannah agreeing. The students were starting to filter out of the hall and my time was running out. I had a lecture to go to and I didn't have a nerd to seduce.

"Are you coming?" Hannah asked. "We're going to be late."

"Save me a seat," I replied as I stood. "I've got to do your forfeit."

Hannah laughed and left me by myself. I felt very much like a hunter stalking its prey as I zoned in on the geek table and looked atย each person individually. Most had left but there were three remaining. There was a lanky guy with a serious case of acne, a shorter dumpier one, and a third that I couldn't quite make out.

I darted between two people to get a clear look and saw him.

He was... cute. He had messy black hair, skin so pale I don't think it had ever seen theย sun, and shockingly blue eyes. He wasn't overly tall or short, and it was impossible to know what sort of body he had beneath his baggy black AC/DC t-shirt and jeans. I was surprised I hadn't seen him before.

I carefully arranged my bag and positioned myself where they were walking. As they neared, I tipped my bag and my books fell scattered over the floor. "Shit! Sorry!" I said.

All three stopped and quickly scooped up my books while I stood there watching them.

Lanky handed me the books first, his face blushing bright red. Next was short and dumpy, who was also blushing furiously.

"Thank you so much!" I said, repacking my bags. "I'm such a clutz!"

"It's OK," the pair mumbled.

Finally, I took the last three books from cute boy. I let my eyes roam over him appreciatively. "Thank you, what's your name?"

"Tom," he replied. He had a nice voice, sweet and gentle. He didn't blush like the other two but I could sense his unease at being around me.

"I'm-"

"Jessica," he finished.

I smiled. "You know my name?"

"We have a few lectures together. I think it's the psychobiology section of your course. I guess you're studying psychology?"

I pretended to remember him. "Oh, yeah, I remember! Yeah, I'm studying psychology. What about you?"

"Medicine." He glanced at his friends. "Well, it was nice seeing you, Jessica. I'll see you last period."

I frowned. "Last period?"

"Yeah, it's psychobiology."

"Oh, OK! I'll see you then."

I watched him leave thinking how perfectly things had worked out. I'd see him last period and find a way to get him to meet up with me then. One quick seduction later, my forfeit would be over and I could get back to enjoying university life.

"Tom, I can't believe she spoke to you! Did you see her?" Charlie pestered me as we entered the lecture theatre.

"Since she was standing right in front of me, yes I did see her," I replied patiently. Charlie tended to get a little over-enthusiastic when it came to the fairer sex.

He wasn't a tall guy and he struggled with his weight, so any interactions with girls around the campus were a big deal to him.

Beside him, Harry shook his head. He was the quieter of the pair, someone who preferred to let others do the talking. "I think she did it on purpose."

I was just over six feet but still had to crane my neck to look up at him. "Yeah, I'm with Harry. No one just drops their books like that. She did it for a reason."

Charlie wasn't to be deterred. "So? She did it to get your attention! You saw her give you the old googly eyes! You're in!"

I snorted. "Why would Jessica Mason take an interest in anything I have to say? Forget her, we've got two hours of anatomy to sit through."

We took our usual seats at the back of the theatre and set up our laptops. As our teacher started the monotonous lecture, my mind drifted to Jessica. I'd noticed her the moment I set foot in my first Psychobiology class. Long, flowing blonde hair framing a delicately featured face and vivid green eyes, she turned the heads of everyone she passed, me included. Couple her looks with a petite figure and two generously-sized breasts, she was a walking nuclear weapon of distraction and infatuation.

Similar to Harry, I was the quiet one growing up. My interactions with girls tended to result in hurt that resulted from them trading a reserved boy for far more exciting and boisterous ones. Over time, I retreated into a secluded existence. I found enjoyment in books, movies, and games. I went out into nature by myself and enjoyed taking photos of the wildlife.

I think I chose medicine as a career because it would allow me to interact with people without the pressure of having to socialise. I could help them in ways no one else could, listen to their problems and find the best solutions. Then, when they were out of my care, I could wave goodbye and move on to the next person. No hurt, no pressure.

So, when Jessica spilled her books in front of me and looked at me in a way that no other female had looked at me in years, I was more than a little wary. While she didn't have the reputation of some of the girls she socialised with, she was known to party and had no short number of visitors to her dorm. Any guy who graced her bed was sure to brag about it to his friends the following morning.

I pushed Jessica from my head and focused on the lesson. In my humble opinion, anatomy was one of the most important areas of medicine. If you didn't know how something was put together, how on earth would you know how to fix it?

Two hours and many pages of notes later, I left the theatre and waved goodbye to Harry and Charlie. They were taking human bio-sciences, a different course that crossed over with mine a fair amount. As similar people have a way of doing, we gravitated toward each other early on. We were the outsiders, happy to sit at the rear of the class.

We bonded quickly--over games, sci-fi books, late-night theories, and weekly game nights stocked with pizzas and sweets. Charlie, especially, had this habit of diving deep into whatever fascinated him. While he was technically in biosciences, he spent just as much time teaching himself image analysis and metadata forensics--hacking together little programs to "test out nerdy theories," as he liked to say. We all joked he was our in-house hacker, but honestly, if something felt off, Charlie was the one we trusted to catch it.

Harry wasn't as deep into tech as Charlie, but he loved his hardware and kept an eye on performance like a proud parent. Between Charlie's curiosity and Harry's instincts, they made a terrifyingly efficient duo whenever something needed digging into.

After freshman year, Charlie and Harry managed to snag one of the campus's rare suite-style dorms--basically a two-man flat on the top floor, complete with a lounge, kitchenette, and their own setup for gaming marathons. We could've applied for a three-bedroom version, but I passed. I liked having my own space. My suite was on the ground floor of the same building, quieter, more private, with a small kitchen and my own bedroom. It suited me. Less noise, more clarity. And it wasn't like we were far, we still hung out all the time.

"Hey, Tom!"

I almost dropped my bag as I turned to find Jessica Mason dancing to my side, her golden hair shifting with each step.

"Uh, hey," I said, my treacherous mind unable to come up with anything better.

She grinned, flashing me a perfect set of pearly-white teeth and two cute dimples. "Sorry about earlier, I completely forgot we had psychobiology last period. Did you do the homework OK?"

"Yeah, it wasn't too hard," I replied, confused. She was talking to me as if we were good friends. Up until that morning, I was fairly certain she had no idea I existed.

"OK, brainy-box!" she chided, nudging me playfully in the side. Thankfully, we had reached the lecture theatre, so I was saved from having to respond.

I quickly stepped forward and opened the door for her. She paused, looking between me and the door as if puzzled. Then, she smiled again. "You're such a gentleman, thank you!" She danced through the door.

Inside, I went to my usual spot at the back and assumed she would take hers at the front with some of her friends. I sat in my chair only to see Jessica slide into the one beside me. She noted my confusion and said, "I always struggle with this class, so you can help me!"

"How do you know I don't struggle?" I replied.

She gave me a quirky half-smile. "Because you found the homework easy!" She glanced toward the front, where her friends had noticed her new seating choice and were talking animatedly. "Uh, listen... do you think you could help me with some of the work? Maybe tonight?" She leaned closer and I got a waft of her scent, vanilla and roses.

"I-I would, but I've already got plans," I stuttered. It was true, I'd arranged a huge gaming night with Charlie and Harry. A new RPG had come out and we were planning a whole-nighter battling our way through it.

Frustration crossed her face before she covered it with a quick smile. "OK, how about tomorrow? We can do a working lunch?" She looked at me hopefully.

I felt like I couldn't turn her down twice, so I nodded. "Sure, shall we meet at the library?"

"Yay! You're a lifesaver!" She hugged me and I tried to ignore her breasts pressing into my chest.

"I-it's nothing."

"No. You're giving up your time to help me out, so thank you. Here, give me your number." She took out her phone and punched in my digits. It felt like I was dreaming. Jessica Mason had asked for my numberย andย asked me to meet with her.

There was sure to be something more. No one suddenly starts talking to someone without a reason. Especially someone like Jessica and someone like me. We were in two completely different social orbits that never overlapped. My best guess was that she was using me to help her with her grades.

The thought didn't anger me all that much. After all, she'd been honest with me about why she wanted to meet. I supposed that helping her out wouldn't be so bad, especially if she hugged me again.

Later that evening, I made the mistake of telling Charlie and Harry about my conversation with Jessica. What followed was a lengthy rant from Charlie outlining in great and insulting detail why I was foolish to pass on an evening with Jessica Mason in favour of a night playing games with him and Harry.

"OK!" I finally said. "I get it, but I'd made plans with you two and I'm not going to bail just because some girl flashes her teeth at me. She only wanted to use me for studying anyway."

Charlie shook his head in disbelief and muttered, "Idiot."

I appealed to Harry. "Back me up here! Surely it's a good thing I chose you over her, right?"

Harry finished his slice of pizza as he thought. "Yeah, I think it is. BUT," he said over Charlie's protest. "I think what Charlie is getting at is it would do you some good to get out and socialise. Let's be honest, we three aren't the most popular people at university. Maybe you will be our way into the social groups."

"Is that what you want? I'm quite happy chilling, just the three of us."

Harry shrugged. "We're happy too, but university is supposed to be about meeting new people and expanding your horizons, right? Maybe this is the perfect start."

"Fine," I said, admitting defeat. "Next time a hot girl asks me to spend an evening with her, I will."

Charlie punched my arm happily. "That's more like it!"

Hannah, Rachel, and Kat were sitting around our kitchen table, comparing notes, photos, and stories of their latest conquests. I sipped my rum and coke, waiting for the inevitable turn of the conversation to me and my forfeit.

"He's such a good fuck!" Rachel gushed.

"Jack Lovett!?" Hannah said with a snort. "I don't believe it."

"He's coming over tonight," Rachel retorted. "I'll leave my door open and you can listen to just how good he is!"

Hannah leaned back, swirling her drink with a smirk.. "Listen in? Babe, you know I don't just watch. I join. Don't blame me if he ends up liking me better."

Rachel smirked, sipping her drink. "Like that stopped you last time."

My mind drifted back to Tom. He was different from any guy that I'd spoken to before. There was a shyness about him that reminded me of a nervous deer. He was skittish too, but kind. I couldn't recall the last time a guy had held a door open for me. Even the staged dropping of my books... guys like Simon and Jack would have watched and laughed at me. Not Tom. He and his friends picked them up straight away without so much as a chuckle. Maybe it was because they were used to being the ones laughed at.

A twinge of guilt prickled my stomach. I felt very much like a lioness circling him, waiting for the right moment to pounce and sink my claws in.

"So, the beautiful Jessica Mason was rejected by a science nerd!" Kat said, interrupting my daydream.

I bristled. "I'm seeing him tomorrow, actually. So no, I did not get rejected!"

She smirked. "Strange... I thought you asked to see him tonight and he shot you down."

"Fuck off, he was busy! It doesn't matter, tomorrow works better for me."

"What about Simon's party?"

I sipped my drink. "What about it? I'll see Tom during the day and meet you guys there in the evening."

"You're meant to fuck a nerd, not date one," Hannah laughed.

"It's a stupid fucking forfeit! The guy's like a startled rabbit. Don't worry, by this time tomorrow, it'll be over and I'll have learned never to do stupid bets with you three again."

---------------------

The library was nearly empty, which worked in my favor. Fewer eyes, fewer distractions. Just me, Tom, and the quiet hum of the air conditioning.

He was engrossed in his notes, flipping through his textbook, the sharp focus on his face making it clear that he was completely unaware of my scheming.

That needed to change.

I leaned forward, resting my chin in my hand, watching him. "Hey, Tom."

"Hmm?" He didn't even look up.

I bit my lip, considering my approach. "You've been helping me out a lot with this coursework. I should probably repay you."

That got his attention. He glanced up, raising an eyebrow. "Repay me?"

I nodded, letting my foot brush lightly against his leg under the table. "Yeah. Maybe take a break from all this studying. Let me help you relax."

He blinked, clearly thrown off. "Uh... what?"

I gave him what I hoped was my most alluring smile. "Come on, Tom. I know you're not completely oblivious." My foot grazed against him again. "Let me take care of you."

Realization dawned on his face, and instead of looking intrigued, he looked... wary.
