Chapter 2 discovering the need for an assistant
Landon immediately stood up, crossed the room in a blink, and hugged Emily hard and fast. The beautiful smile on her face clued him in that she was absolutely as glad to see him as he was to see her.
Landon suggested, "Let's get the job done and go somewhere else to talk more."
Emily readily agreed, with a little blush and giggle- hearing promise in that suggestion. The meeting was extremely brief and efficient. Emily had known exactly what she needed to do, she'd just wanted confirmation.
Landon, usually a pragmatist, encouraged Emily to leave first and he'd join her downstairs in a few minutes. Emily smirked at his plans- in light of how he'd behaved the last time they'd been together in his office.
Landon shrugged, admitting, "It's how I am."
Emily made sure to lean over to show Landon something he might want to plan to see later. Landon's eyes got that look that sent chills through her entire body. The look that either meant he could see right into her soul or that he could see right through her clothes. Either way, she felt naked and delicious. She pulled herself together to follow the plan, cleverly realizing that the sooner she left, the sooner she'd see him again. Landon watched her walk out of his office, but didn't trust himself to watch her walk down the hallway.
Landon took a deep breath, shut down his office for the day, and forced himself to wait the full 5 minutes. He attempted nonchalance as he half sprinted to the elevator. It was the longest elevator ride of his life.
Emily waited for him outside his brick office building, sitting on the cement wall swinging her feet to and fro. The weather was perfect. The air warm enough, but not too hot. A breeze gently blew her hair. She loved this area of the university with its older buildings, benches, trees, and flower beds.
Landon emerged eagerly from the elevator, expecting to see Emily waiting for him in the lobby. He knew right away she wasn't in the building. Somehow he could feel that. He immediately looked at the large glass window in the doorway and saw her sitting there. Something about the picture of her sitting there so carefree, the wind blowing her hair, made him smile. Emily was magical. She was creeping into his heart in ways he just didn't expect.
