Chapter 11

Sean's Jeep was packed and almost nobody turned out to see them off and that was fine with him. He had Mira and her secret to protect so he had to find a place where no one knew her secret, and they could live a happy and contented life together. They were going to get married in Florida, away from all the chaos here. He had to admit he was going to miss this town, but he knew he would be back at some point.

The job in Florida had been a lock and he was exactly the kind of person they were looking for. His real estate agent had found them a great house. The house was isolated and right on a rocky section of the Atlantic. Yesterday, the movers had packed up everything and had left for Florida. Everything had come together within the course of a couple of weeks. Mira was glad to be leaving because everyone was still looking for the mermaid that escaped, and she had to be very careful about being seen anywhere. The new location would give them a fresh start.

Sean shook hands with his boss but winced as his boss wrapped him in a big bear hug. Sean gingerly climbed into his Jeep and looked over at his new copilot. He wasn't sure he could keep his eyes on the road because she was devastatingly beautiful and very distracting, especially in her almost nonexistent bikini. Mira was sprawled casually in the seat beside him in the tiny blue bikini top and bottom she had first worn.

The smile on her face let him know she was happy to be where they were. Her eyes were luminous with the love she felt for him and for the thousandth time his heart responded. His insides turned into mushy goo again as her love filled him to overflowing. There was something different about her smile and he asked, "You are hiding a secret, my love. What is it?"

Mira's smile completely consumed her face as whispered excitedly, "I'm pregnant. We are going to have a baby."

Sean looked at her stunned and slowly a smile grew on his face. This was something he never thought about but was ecstatic. She was leaving everything behind to come with him. Her whole support structure was gone, and he was her only protector. "Wait, we have only been together for a little more than three weeks, how do you know?"

Mira laughed, "We are more in tune with our bodies than humans are. I can feel the baby sapping my energy and I can feel her growing. Soon, within a month I will be able to communicate with her. A mermaid's pregnancy is very different, and this is an incredibly joyful time."

Sean felt joy and anxiety at the same time. He was going to be a father of a mermaid and it was daunting as well as exciting. He pulled her into his arms and smothered her with kisses. Then he put his hand over her flat, taut belly saying, "My little mermaid, we both love you with all we are, and we welcome you into our family."

Mira's smile grew even bigger and after Sean's words, tears of joy pooled in her eyes. After a choking sob she whispered, "I love you Sean and we will both love you."

Sean sat back and handed Mira a large, zippered case full of CDs and a Rand McNally map book. He smiled at her and said, "As my copilot, you're in charge of music and navigation. So, for at least a little while you get to tell me where to go."

Mira gave him a pout that morphed into a mischievous smile. "Why don't you have a GPS? What happens if I get us lost?"

Sean chuckled and smiled at her. He knew with that sexy bikini, her incredibly exposed figure and that impish smile, there would be many detours. Sean already knew the route, because he knew the Interstate system. Sean got a pretend scowl on his face and said, "If you get us lost, I guess I will just have to find some way to tease you incessantly until you behave."

Mira's smile widened taking over her entire face, with her eyes full of love and mischief. She squirmed in her seat and eventually leaned over the console with her breasts dangerously close to spilling out of her top. "Oh, then I will be sure to get us lost ... several times!"

Sean couldn't help but smile as he leaned over and gave Mira a devastating kiss. Their tongues dueled for dominance just like their very first kiss and this time they were both winners. After the kiss, Mira sat back in her seat with the dreamy look on her face as Sean started the Jeep. The throaty rumble kicked in as they drove away. Mira popped a CD in the player and as they reached, the city limits sign "Babe" from Styx began blaring through the speakers.
