The rain had begun again. It was coming down in sheets and felt like wet snow when it hit her body. Today wasn't the logical day to go wondering off into the woods alone. It was near dark and who knew who was in these woods at night. How many snakes might she trip over while exploring. What had she been thinking?
She reassured herself that she'd been thinking of that dream she'd had so many times about these woods where no one went. There was a man. He was a tall man, perhaps about 6 feet 1. He was older, and had a full beard. His blue eyes twinkled when he looked at her in the moonlight in the dream. He appeared to her as if he was a ghost.
She stopped walking when she heard a twig snap just to her right. Over head the sky flashed with lightening and thunder started to roar. She shivered. What had she been thinking. She could have waited and came a different day. One that wasn't overcast with soon to be showers. There was nothing for it but for her to head for those old houses which were falling down in so many tiny pieces. It was all over the forest around the old houses. She was thinking she could find shelter there. But when she arrived it looked so ran down and unsafe she feared to enter any of them or stand under what remained of the porch roof.
She looked around hoping to find someplace nearby. A large pine tree flashed before her eyes when the sky lit up with lightening again. The boom that followed made her heart skip a beat. She just managed to stay on her feet. She felt so alone and scared.
She started toward the pine tree.ย What other choice did she have? It was so large and the branches were so low to the ground that she could slipย beneathย them to get inside and away from the rain. As she crawled under the nearest branch she saw a foot. She stopped crawling.
