As so many of the great changes in our life do, Jennifer's "awakening" began simply enough. It began at book club. Most women are familiar with book club-basically an excuse to get together with the girls to chitchat on a weekly basis, and hers was no different. This week she had actually read the book. Out of boredom though more so than for the enjoyment, as the book was really non descript and predictable.
It was the biography of a woman, who late in life, decided not to miss out on lives thrills and began to sky dive, mountain climb, go on safaris etc. etc. While rather boring, the story did have one line that did stick in her head. "I though I might as well try it now, as I wont be here to try it in 40 years".
Jennifer was often described as librarianish. She was 5'6" 135 pounds and 28 years old. While she was pretty enough she didn't really put a lot into her looks. She dressed nice, but conservatively. And, along with the glasses, she usually acted rather reserved, all contributing to the way she was interpreted by others. She was defiantly not a risk taker.
At 28, she was in the middle of her age group in book club but was one of only two girls who were not married and never had been. She had had limited experience with men but had been in a 3 year relationship that ended badly. That relationship constituted most of her experience with men.
Book club always turned to discussion of men and sex and Jennifer had little to contribute. While not a prude by any means, she was just to shy to have tried some of the things they discussed and now, with no one in her life had no opportunity. She was not turned off by their discussions but found her self having trouble relating-telling herself she could contribute more when she found a man to do things in bed with.
