I kicked open the back door, striding in the darkness of the backyard with sigh. My footsteps were quiet in the grass as I pulled my shirt away from my body to cool off. It was so hot in the house and with all of the bodies dancing and partying, I needed a break.
Especially since I was having a hard time taking my eyes off the way your hips moved while you danced and chatted with your friends. You held a solo cup but I'm pretty sure I was the only one that knew that it just had juice in it. Watching you become effervescent at parties was one of my favorite things, you didn't need to drink to have a good time. You
were
the good time, and that was one of the reasons we were friends.
I collapsed to the grass, just beyond the light of the backdoor. Confident that no one would bother me out here, I let my gaze soften as I stared up at the night sky. And as usual, my thoughts drifted to you.
I was a lucky son of a bitch to have a best friend like you. We did everything together but lately, I've been noticing my thoughts shifting. I smiled wider when your face was red from laughing at me, my chest constricted when you'd get bashful after you squeaked out a win in Apex sitting on my couch in the same shorts you were shaking your ass in inside.
Scrubbing my face with my hands, I tucked my arms under my head and let the music inside lull me into a relaxed state. I don't know how long I laid there for, I didn't mean to be out here for too long but the air felt good out here even if it was getting chilly.
"There you are," You called with a brightness in your voice that sounded like relief as you exited the house. The music poured out into the backyard around you before the door swung shut and I listened to your footsteps quietly tread across the grass towards me.
I glanced up at you as you folded your legs underneath you, sinking into the grass next to me and placing a can of Arnold Palmer next to me. You always remembered it was my favorite, even when we were at parties.
"I just needed some air," I breathed, pulling myself up to sit and picking up the can to crack it before clinking with yours. "Hey thanks," I took a big swig, swallowing with a grateful sigh. "I figured the party was bumping and no one would miss me. Probably could've left."
I laughed when you shoved my shoulder, calling me a jerk when you said you'd miss me. "I knew you'd be somewhere cooler, it's hot as fuck with all those bodies in there," you said. I watched the column of your neck work as you brought the can to your lips to drink. "It's smart to be out of sight from the light, less people bothering you out here."
I nodded, swallowing thickly and redirecting my attention back to the sky. "Well, so far you're the only one who's found me," I said with a laugh and wink, delighting in the way you got flustered.
"Wha- am I bothering you??" You volleyed back, feigning hurt.
"No no, I'm glad you're here." And I was. I was so glad you were here. The more I was around you the more I wanted to be around you, and that was hard to balance because I didn't want to ruin what we had now. I laid back down again, tucking my arms under my head knowing it lifted my shirt up. I wanted to see if you noticed, and I got a thrill through my stomach when you absolutely did.
I pretended not to notice as you made yourself comfortable flat on the grass next to me. "Wow, there's a lot of stars out tonight." You said, a soft reverence in your voice as a comfortable silence sat between us.
"Yeah," I said with a similar softness, letting my eyes shut as I struggled to fight the urges that were rising in me.
Time drifted between us as the party raged behind us. I cracked my eyes as you moved to pick up a drink that was definitely mine before bringing it to your lips and almost draining it completely.
"Hey, that's mine." I teased, uncaring about the fact that you drank from my can and more the fact that I wanted your lips on mine instead. The realization washed over your face and I watched you wince.
"Sorry."
"Ew, that means we like, kissed." I blurted out, covering my words with a groan and wink to indicate I wasn't really serious. I hadn't quite meant to say it like that because... would that be so bad?
"Yeah, that's like wicked gross, sorry." You responded quickly, clearing your throat and pulling my attention from the smile on your lips to the sky again. "Yeah, so you can have mine since I basically just killed yours."
"So we'll double kiss?" I feigned shock, putting my hand to my chest as if pressing my lips against yours repeatedly wasn't something I was obsessed with at this current moment. They always looked so soft, it made me want to worship them.
"Yeah, I guess if you wanna make it weird, nerd." You mumbled and I watched you shift around to try and cover how flustered you were. It made my heart swell.
I leaned up on my elbow laughing before taking your can in defiance. "Yeah maybe I wanna make it weird," before pulling deep on the can until it was empty, taking a breath with an unexpected burp that made us both laugh. "Thank you for the drink." I whispered, hoping I was sounding as genuine as I felt, my heart was racing in my ears as I scooped your hand up to press my lips to the soft skin on the back of it.
"Wha- yeah no problem." Your breath caught in your chest and it was like jump starting my brain, making me giddy before a smirk pulled across my lips. I rolled onto my back hoping you wouldn't be able to see all of the filthy things that were happening between us inside of mind, shifting and sighing in contentment as a breeze washed over us.
"The party is fun, Kyle did a great job throwing it." I said as I attempted to redirect, closing my eyes and clearing my throat. The music inside shifted into something fun with lots of bass. Something I could fuck to.
Something I could fuck
you
to.
Fuck.
I listened to the sounds of you laying down again next to me, enjoying the space we always shared with each other. "Yeah he killed it. He's lucky he had his sister to help though," You mused with a laugh as I rolled onto my side to face you.
I tucked an arm under my head as I reached for your hand, a boldness welling up inside of me that I knew wasn't lasting.
"Hey, can I ask you something?"
The way your breath caught in your chest told me that this was the right moment to ask. I watched your tongue flick out to wet your lips before you swallowed thickly, an adorable awkwardness settling over you. But you didn't pull your hand back and your eyes stayed locked on mine.
"S-sure, what's up?"
I brought the back of your hand to my lips again, taking my time in pressing little kisses across each knuckle. "What... what if I wanted to make it weird?"
Your eyes snapped between where my lips were caressing the back of your hand and my eyes, a vulnerability heavy in your gaze.
