Part 1: Roommate Wrestling
Morning sunlight spilled into the small off-campus apartment, casting long, golden streaks across the living room floor. Jason emerged from his bedroom, still groggy, rubbing the back of his neck as he padded toward the kitchen. The faint aroma of coffee lingered in the air, but what caught his attention was Sophie, already on her yoga mat in the center of the room.
She moved with fluid precision, her ponytail swinging as she stretched into a deep lunge. Dressed in snug workout gear, Sophie looked completely at ease, her athleticism on full display. Jason paused, leaning against the counter with a half-smile. Typical Sophie--always full of energy, even at this hour. Hearing Jason enter the room, she decided to get on her hands and knees on the yoga mat arching her back provocatively in the suggestive cat-cow pose. She loved to tease him just to get a reaction, she knew how good her body looked, and she knew how to use it.
Grabbing a water bottle from the fridge, Jason twisted off the cap and took a sip.
Jason leaned against the kitchen counter, sipping his water as he watched Sophie stretching on her yoga mat. He couldn't help admit she looked damn fine in her grey form fitting sports bra and matching yoga pants. The scene felt oddly familiar, like a page ripped straight from their childhood. Back then, it had been Sophie dragging him outside for impromptu races or testing out a new game she'd invented. Now, here they were, sharing an off-campus apartment as freshmen at the same university.
It still felt surreal sometimes. They'd grown up two doors down from each other, inseparable through middle school and high school. When Sophie had suggested they room together to save on rent, it felt like the obvious choice. Neither of them had siblings, so in a way, they had always been each other's family.
Jason glanced around the apartment. It wasn't much--just a small two-bedroom space with a tiny kitchen and a living area they'd barely furnished. But it already felt like home, mostly because Sophie's energy filled every corner of it.
Sophie glanced over her shoulder, catching his eye with a mischievous grin. "Like what you see?" She teased. He shrugged, trying to hide his arousal. "Just admiring the room is all." She looked unconvinced but decided to let him off the hook.
"So how's it feel living with your favorite person in the world?" Sophie asked, looking up from her stretch.
Jason smirked, setting his water bottle down. "I don't know. When do they move in?"
She rolled her eyes but grinned. "Funny. I'm going to start charging you for all this entertainment I provide."
"Why buy the cow when you get the milk free?" Jason shot back.
She got up and smacked him playfully. "Did you just call me a cow? And since when did I ever give you the milk." she said, amused.
"Ow! That hurt." he said, pretending to rub his shoulder in pain.
"I learned something new at the gym this morning," she said casually.
Jason arched an eyebrow but didn't respond, watching as she brushed off her leggings and crossed the room toward him.
"Some guy at the gym, kind of cute, showed me a few wrestling moves," she continued, a playful glint in her eyes. "Thought I'd try them out on you."
Jason tried not to let the 'cute' comment annoy him. Why did he feel this way? They were just friends.
"Oh yea..?" he said skeptically.
"Yea, they're pretty cool too. Think they'd work pretty well in a pinch." she grinned.
Jason blinked, lowering the water bottle. He could already tell where this was going. Sophie wasn't the type to let an opportunity like this slide, and her confident stance made it clear she was serious--or at least as serious as Sophie could be.
"Alright," he said finally, setting the bottle on the counter. "Let's see what you've got."
"I bet I could pin you in twenty seconds flat," she smirked.
"Puhlease, I've got six inches on you and at least fifty pounds" he said rolling his eyes. "Bring it."
Sophie looked over him appraisingly. Jason had definitely filled out of the summer, and he definitely had some muscle. His boyish good looks had matured into something more defined, and she wasn't blind to it. Still, Sophie wasn't one to back down from a challenge, especially not one she'd initiated.
She stepped onto the mat, stretching her arms casually, though her sharp grin betrayed her determination. "Doesn't matter. Skill beats size every time," she quipped, motioning for him to join her.
Jason rolled his shoulders and stepped forward, planting his feet. "We'll see about that."
The challenge lit up her face. Sophie wasted no time closing the distance between them, her movements quick and deliberate. She darted forward and grabbed his arm, twisting it into an arm lock. The maneuver was clean, catching Jason completely off guard.
He winced as a sharp twinge shot through his wrist. "Okay, okay! I tap!"
Sophie released him instantly, stepping back with a triumphant laugh. She stood there, arms crossed, looking every bit the victor as Jason rubbed his arm and shot her a mock glare.
