Andrew held Sabrina for a few moments as she cried, then gently steered her over to the couch. Even as they sat down, she continued to cling to him, her body wracked with sobs as she let out her fear and pain. Sasha sat back down and watched as her sister sought comfort from Andy. She had been expecting her sister to break eventually, but the fact that it had happened when Andy arrived was telling.
As their meeting had played out, Sasha had watched the expressions on her sister's face. She knew her sister better than anyone and she could almost hear the thoughts that were shouting in Sabrina's head when she saw Andy. She'd never seen her sister lovestruck before, but it was the only way she could describe it. If it wasn't for the situation, she thought they would still be in each other's arms, just with less tears and more kissing.
Although she didn't know Andy, it was obvious what his thoughts had been when Sabrina had come down the stairs. It's not hard to tell when a man is dumbstruck by a woman and her sister had that ability in spades. A beautiful woman herself, Sasha had seen her share of men rendered speechless on occasion and that description fit Andy to a tee as he'd stared at her sister.
It took Andy several minutes to calm Sabrina enough for the sobbing to end and for her to regain her voice.
"It's going to be okay, Sabrina. We'll figure this out." Andy whispered into her ear as she clutched him.
"I'm just so scared, Andy. I don't know why anyone would hate me this much." She replied as her breathing slowly returned to normal. She felt horrible for breaking down but that was trumped by the comfort she took in holding onto Andy. At the moment, she felt like she never wanted to let go.
"I don't know why this is happening, but I know you didn't do anything to deserve this."
Reluctantly, Sabrina released her grip and leaned away from Andy to look at his face. She could see that he sincerely believed what he was saying, and she took strength from that.
"I'm so glad I asked Cassie to call you. She wasn't sure if you'd be available, but she said that if anyone could help me, it would be you." She said, giving him a fragile smile.
"I'd have dropped whatever I was doing to come help you, believe that. Luckily, I'd just finished my last assignment." The warmth in the smile Andy gave her helped to lessen some of her embarassment for breaking down, but now she felt restless.
"Do you want some coffee? Or maybe something to eat? I know you've been on the road all day and you have to be starving." Sabrina asked, trying to get up to head to the kitchen. She needed to be doing something with all the pent-up energy she was feeling. Andy's arm around her shoulder stopped her.
"Sabrina, try to relax. I've already had Sean order me something to eat and your sister gave me some coffee as soon as I got here." He held on until she stopped trying to get up, then released her and moved away a little.
"I need to make a couple calls and see where we are on things. Since you mentioned her, why don't you call Cassie and let her know I made it and I'm on the case. I know she was very worried about you when I talked to her last night."
Sabrina nodded, gave him another smile, and then took the cellphone her sister offered her and headed upstairs to call Cassie.
Once she was gone, Sasha looked at Andy and laughed slightly.
"I've never seen anyone handle Brin the way you just did. She's as sweet as can be, but her stubbornness usually balances that out. You just nudged her in the direction you wanted her to go and off she went like it was the most natural thing in the world."
Andy laughed before pulling the phone Sean had given him back out of his pocket.
"Her mind is trying to drive her body in a dozen different directions and she doesn't know which way to go. I just gave her a task she could focus on and a chance for my sister to work her magic and relax her. I'm sure I'll pay for it later."
"I don't doubt it. I'm just glad she finally broke down and let some of her emotions out. I've been waiting for her to have a crying fit ever since she flew in from New York. I'll go straighten up my kitchen and leave you to your calls." Sasha rose and headed to her work. Andy's first call was to John.
"Hey, brother, I made it to Louisville. Where are we on getting access to the NYPD investigation?" He asked as John answered his phone.
"It took a little sweet talking and a call to the mayor, but our people are looking over everything the NYPD has right now. Karen Reese is running the team and I've already given her your number. She'll be in touch as soon as they get through everything. How is Sabrina?"
"She broke down a bit when I got here but she seems to be doing okay. I think having Sean and Gavin here relaxed her. I'm gonna hold onto those two for the duration, most likely. I'm about to call the detective who was here this morning and see what he had on the local evidence. I just wanted to check in with you first."
"Alright, Andy. Keep in touch and let me know if there is anything else you need to get this situation resolved. Just a sec." Andy could hear a female voice in the background. Then he heard John laugh and speak again.
"And Cami says you better take good care of that girl or she'll be flying to Louisville to kick your ass." He said, laughing again with Andy joining in.
"I don't doubt she could. Tell her I'm doing my best. Thanks John." And said and ended the call, pulling out the card Sean had given him. The call to Detective Matthew Cross was quickly picked up.
"Detective, my name is Andrew Riley. I'm an investigator and security specialist for the Hunter Agency. I'm assigned to close protection of Sabrina St. Claire. I was told that you wanted me to contact you as soon as possible."
