Polly turned away and crept back to the campsite. "What the heck was he doing?" She asked herself. "Was that how he took a bath?" She looked down at her dress and felt her own spot between her legs. "I don't have anything like that..." She wondered over to the fire and started cooking food Joe had laid out along the fire to be fried.

It was dark now and everything around her felt lonely. What was her folks doing back in the city? She wondered. "What was her friend doing? Had she gotten married yet?"

Noise coming from the area towards the water interrupted her thoughts. She turned and Joe emerged from the weeds wearing some new jeans and a nice button up the front shirt.

"That smells wonderful," her told her as he approached. "I think so too," she agreed. Her eyes never made it up to his face but stayed between his legs wondering why he was built differently then she was. She'd never noticed anything like that about John. But there wasn't anything all that interesting about John she told herself.

"Is anything wrong?" Joe suddenly asked as he neared her and saw a look of distress on her face.

"No," she assured him, "everything's fine."

He moved over towards the horses to put the bathing bag away. "You'd better be checking that food before it burns he told her."

"What?" Polly felt like she'd suddenly just woke up from a disturbing dream. "Oh, yes," she replied and hurried over to the fire to move the food around and keep it from burning."

"Now," Joe said, almost to empty air as Polly seemed to be lost somewhere in her mind. "We might not have to find my tribe. They might find us." He pointed to the fire. "They will see that and check it out. So, don't be surprised if you wake up to Indians surrounding you."

He watched her move the food away from the fire. Her little body in that tiny dress just made him hard again. He moaned. "This won't do," he told himself. "I can't have her..."

"He moved away so he couldn't see how sexy she looked so close to the fire.

"Be careful of that dress so close to the fire," he warned her. "If you get too close it could catch fire."

She pulled it away from the fire and dished up the food. "Come on," she called out. "Let's eat!"

"So, can you tell me how your chief is my father?" she asked just as she took the last bite of her food.

"How?" he inquired. "I'm not sure what you're asking."

"How did he meet my mom?" She asked.

"Ohh," he nodded as he chewed a bite of food.

"You sure you wanna hear that from me?" he asked. "I can't say it's a pleasant story."

"But," she continued, "It's the story."

He nodded and handed her his plate...

"Okay," if you're sure you truly wanna hear it."

The fire burned brightly in the dark sky and Joe took a sip of his drink swallowed and began the story...

"Your family was crossing the plains to start a new life in a town they'd heard about. They were part of a wagon train which headed into Indian land."

"My Chief sent his men to follow this wagon train until it left their area."

Polly nodded. She watched his lips as he talked. She'd never noticed before how they were shaped. His longish black hair kinda glowed in the firelight. She felt a twitch in her heart. She liked him.

"That's when one reported this woman they saw. He told my Chief that she was striking for a white woman."

"What do you mean, 'striking?'" Polly asked.

"Very good looking," Joe answered. "Breathtaking, you might say."

"My mother was breathtaking?" Polly repeated.

"What did she look like?" Polly asked.

"I was a small boy when all of this happened," Joe replied. "So, I really do not know."

"At any rate the tribes folks kept watch over the wagon train as it moved across the land we lived upon. My Chief was now interested in this woman and at some point he, himself, went out to look upon her."

"He said she was like the wind when it blew. Her hair flowed around her shoulders like magic. She was thin and desirable."

He paused for a few moments to let the story soak into her brain.

"He told his men to capture her. He wanted her for his own."

"You mean mom didn't wanna be with him?" Polly asked.

"I told you," Joe paused, "It wasn't a pleasant story."

"Go on," Polly instructed.

"They did just that and killed the rest of the people on the wagon train as well." He paused. "They were not suppose to do that but the white man on the wagon train resisted."

"Supplies, horses and children were taken to the Chief." He paused. "Your mom resisted through it all and then you were created."

"Created?" Polly looked at him with wondering eyes.

"I don't believe this," Joe said to himself. "She has no idea what sex is. She makes me so hard I can hardly stand it. Yet she knows nothing about sex. What the hell did John do?" He laughed to himself and answered his own question. "He grew his cornfields."

"Do you not know how children are created?" Joe asked her. Now he was feeling uncomfortable. "How old are you, Polly?"

"I'm twenty," Polly answered, "and no I've no idea. Mom, never told me. She said I'd find out when I got married."

Joe rolled his eyes. "I'm positive you will," he replied. "Lets just skip over that detail."

Polly only nodded.

"A new wagon train came though a few weeks later." He took a bite of his food and started talking again. "The Chief ordered them to once again keep track of them."

"What about mom?" Polly asked.

"Your mom knew about the new wagon train and she timed it so that when they were close by she ran with you in her arms. This caused my Chief to order his tribe to attack." He swallowed. Paused for a few moments watching the fire dance around in the camp fire. "This time we lost. But," your mom died in the fighting. I understand that she gave you to a woman in the wagon train before she died."

There was a longer pause as Joe seemed to be thinking deeply of the past. "She was the reason the Chief lost the battle. He never forgave her for that."

"Why does he want me back?" Polly asked. "If he's angry at mom than won't he be angry at me too?"

"No," Joe answered. "I was sent to white-man's schools to understand the ways of the white man. After that I was sent out to find you along with several other braves. As I understand it they've all died. I am the last one."

"He sees you as the bridge between us and the white-man."

He took a sip of his drink. "You're very important..."

"What does he expect me to do?" She asked now worried about the whole ordeal.

"Make peace with the white-man. Keep him off our land."

"I wouldn't know..."

He held up his hand. "I know you've no idea how to do that. But, it was my mission to find you and find you I did. Once I deliver you I'm free to marry and become a brave again."

"Do you want to do that?" Polly asked.

"I have no idea what I want," he answered. "I do know," he sighed as he was talking to himself. "That I want you..."

He looked up at the sky. "Hey, it's late and we'd better be off to bed."

He moved to add more wood to the fire. "We'll sleep over on this side tonight." He pointed at a spot that wasn't in clear sight of the open area around them.

"I've gotta keep my eyes open..." he gestured towards the open plains. "Anyone could approach."
