Chapter 10 Office Party and New Truck.
Thursday -- Third week:
Got up Thursday morning as usual and got things ready to go but had to wait for Reed's to open at nine O'clock. Planed on being there when they unlocked.
Called Pete my accountant and told him about the combine purchase and he said that if we hadn't already done the deal to have them sell it to Lone Wolf Enterprises and we could lease it to Stevens Family Farms and get a better rate of depreciation on it for tax purposes. That and have the dealer buy the old combine instead of using it as a trade in.
"Sweet, that's why I have you for my accountant." I said to Pete.
"Bet your dealing with Lee Hatfield aren't you."
"Yes we are."
"Good, he'll know what to do since I worked with him last year for another farmer in a similar deal. This will work out better for both LLCs."
"Here comes Lance now. I'll let him know before he calls Lee."
"Good, talk to you later. Oh, you did buy the office furniture as part of Lone Wolf Enterprises yesterday didn't you?"
"Yeah, used a check from the LLC."
"Great. See you later." and we disconnected.
----------------------------------------
"Hey Lance, I just got off the phone with my accountant and he said to tell Lee to run the combine purchase through Lone Wolf Enterprises and then we'll lease it back to the farm. And have him purchase the old combine instead of using it as trade. Said it will benefit both LLCs."
"OK, I haven't talked to Lee yet. Guess he'll know what to do."
"Pete said he worked a similar situation with him last year so he should."
"How does that benefit both LLCs?" Lance asked.
"Good question, guess I'll have to stop by and ask him. Gotta run so I can be at Reed's when they open. Talk to you later. Bye."
----------------------------------------
I got into Reed's as they were unlocking the door. Cody Reed the owner was the one unlocking the door. His other two morning employees were just getting there.
"Hey millionaire, hows things?" He asked.
"OK smart aleck, guess I can take my business elsewhere." Grinning at him joking back.
He laughed and asked, "So what can we do for you rich guy?"
"I have some measurements for a kitchenette in an office I'm setting up in Fairfield. I'm hoping to find a combo stove, oven, microwave, a fridge with ice maker and a dishwasher to go in it."
"Sweet, let's see the dimensions and see what we might have that would work."
I gave him my notes and after glancing at them he said, "Damn, I wish everyone came in here with such detailed dimensions. It would make things so much easier."
"Hm, looks like I may have a couple of models in stock but one that looks like the best fit would be the floor model that has been discontinued."
"I don't mind taking a discontinued unit or two, most models are discontinued in a few years anyway. What kind of deal can you make me on them?" I asked.
