He stood on the sidewalk looking at the grand mansion in front of him. The white pillars of the house seemed to be inviting enough but the house was not really much of his taste anyway. The Halloween decorations covered most of the exterior. The usual skeletons, spiders and witches covered the marvelous house. The big red door looked inviting on any other night but tonight it was covered in a big Frankenstein wall cover. The house was obviously to entice kids but tonight was adults only for the annual Masquerade ball. He was looking forward to unwinding for the night and just enjoying himself and his friends.
He walked up the steps to the house and entered. The grand foyer was decked out along with the rest of the house, candies and treats everywhere. The chatter was defining as he came off the quiet street. He grabbed a piece of candy corn and popped it in his mouth and began looking for something to drink. He found himself in the kitchen with all kinds of adult witches brew to wet his whistle. After mixing his drink he went off towards the main area to find his friends.
He found his friends pretty quickly and immediately began catching up with them. Hours passed as they drank and talked and enjoyed each others company. Out of the corner of his eye he glanced the mirror and almost startled himself. He had completely forgotten that he was in costume. His black suit and tie was still in place and looking nice. The Phantom of the Opera style mask was so light he didn't even feel it on his face. The slight touch of a matte purple paint on it was a nice touch. As he was looking in the mirror he caught a glimpse of a pair of eyes looking at him.
At first he thought it was an optical illusion on the mirror as a halloween prank, but the closer he looked it dawned on him what he was looking at.
She was standing across the room and was staring him down. Dressed in a 19th century green ball gown, with a pink concoction in her hand she looked like very inquisitive. She smiled at him and made sure he noticed her. She turned and walked into the crowd and disappeared. His heart was pounding a mile a minute and he knew what he had to do. He put his drink down and began to scan the crowd looking for her. He pushed his way through the party goers and finally found her standing near the staircase leading to the second floor. He made his way to her and she turned abruptly and climbed the stairs. He couldn't follow her fast enough. By the time he got to the top floor he saw the skirt of her dress enter the third room on the right and the door shut behind her. He noticed all the other rooms closed off but could hear separate parties going on inside based off the noises he heard. He walked nervously to the door. He took a huge gulp of courage and opened the door and then closed it behind him.
