Readers who have read both this series and its predecessor would recognize that when Marcie and I go out, I rarely drink anything except water. This was intentional mostly because I prefer to be the designated driver. Marcie allows me to be one when she sees something particularly interesting on a restaurant's beverage menu. It could be a special margarita or maybe a certain vintage of wine she had never tried. This doesn't mean I avoid alcohol. I do drink it. I just prefer to do it in a safe environment.
The safest environment is when Marcie and I are at home. There was a time long ago when we engaged in a game of poker where the loser took a shot and perhaps removed an article of clothing. (Marcie and Leo Ch. 28) There has even been other times when I would enjoy a cocktail. It was always at home just so I could relax. Even when we had the rare party at the office, I was always too careful to drink.
One of the side benefits of being married to Marcie is that she has helped me appreciate alcohol enough to not overdo it. We keep a few bottles of different liquors around. We rarely keep beer around just because Marcie isn't into it as much. We do keep some of the sparkling seltzers around for those times we need a little buzz without being carried away. It also comes in handy when Marcie's family comes over although I usually go to the local convenience store to buy a case of beer for her brothers. It helps to know your audience.
It was a moderately warm day when I was home, and Marcie walked towards where I was sitting in the back yard. I saw the tell-tale coloring of a popular sparkling seltzer can in her hand. As she edged closer to the lawn chair I was sitting in, I saw her wearing a tight half-shirt and a pair of tight jean shorts. Although it is not my normal MO, I whistled at her. She looked at me through her sunglasses an blew me a kiss. She then took the lawn chair next to me.
"You know, Leo," she started. "The owners of the house next door gave us an open invite to use the pool, especially since they are at the beach right now. Maybe we should go ahead and get into our swimsuits to use it?"
I looked at Marcie and smiled before I started to get up.
