It had been said that "greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends." I have always taken that verse to heart, especially when it came to the people in my inner circle. It was one of the reasons why I tolerated it so much as I grew up.
Thankfully, in recent years with few exceptions I have always taken the opportunity to do things for others. I have remarked in the past how when given the chance, I had helped some friends with starting their own businesses or helping them in their endeavors. In all these times, I never sought recognition or a repayment because in my heart it was the right thing to do. I always felt embarrassed when these people thanked me just because of how I felt. Thankfully, many of these endeavors worked out and I have seen the fruits of what they had become.
Consequently, there have been times when the debt was paid in full unexpectedly. One such time happened when I discovered that Marcie, without me knowing, recruited a few people to help with painting the guest room. It started with a knock at the door that Saturday morning. I walked to the door in sweatpants and a tank top expecting some delivery or something. Instead, I saw two Darling sisters on the other side. I opened the door and was "glomped" by Mon. After she released the hug, June followed right behind.
"Good morning, ladies. What are you doing here?" I asked still in a sleep-induced haze.
"Your wifey invited us over, Silly," Mon responded. "Apparently she wanted us over to assist with the party."
"Party?" I asked before looking into the kitchen and seeing Marcie smile.
"Leo, I forgot to mention that I have a few folks coming over. I invited a few guys to help with the painting and figured the girls and I could put together lunch for afterwards."
I looked over at her and saw her smile before June grabbed my hand.
"I'll help you strip the bed before I help the girls."
As she led me into the guest room, I noticed how similar June and Marcie were. It was a little-known fact that Marcie and June were twins, and they shared many physical traits. I didn't realize they shared other traits as well.
