It had been said that "greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for his friends." I have always taken that verse to heart, especially when it came to the people in my inner circle. It was one of the reasons why I tolerated it so much as I grew up.

Thankfully, in recent years with few exceptions I have always taken the opportunity to do things for others. I have remarked in the past how when given the chance, I had helped some friends with starting their own businesses or helping them in their endeavors. In all these times, I never sought recognition or a repayment because in my heart it was the right thing to do. I always felt embarrassed when these people thanked me just because of how I felt. Thankfully, many of these endeavors worked out and I have seen the fruits of what they had become.

Consequently, there have been times when the debt was paid in full unexpectedly. One such time happened when I discovered that Marcie, without me knowing, recruited a few people to help with painting the guest room. It started with a knock at the door that Saturday morning. I walked to the door in sweatpants and a tank top expecting some delivery or something. Instead, I saw two Darling sisters on the other side. I opened the door and was "glomped" by Mon. After she released the hug, June followed right behind.

"Good morning, ladies. What are you doing here?" I asked still in a sleep-induced haze.

"Your wifey invited us over, Silly," Mon responded. "Apparently she wanted us over to assist with the party."

"Party?" I asked before looking into the kitchen and seeing Marcie smile.

"Leo, I forgot to mention that I have a few folks coming over. I invited a few guys to help with the painting and figured the girls and I could put together lunch for afterwards."

I looked over at her and saw her smile before June grabbed my hand.

"I'll help you strip the bed before I help the girls."

As she led me into the guest room, I noticed how similar June and Marcie were. It was a little-known fact that Marcie and June were twins, and they shared many physical traits. I didn't realize they shared other traits as well.

"Okay, Leo. Take that pillow and pull it out of the case."

I could hear Marcie and Mon laughing from the doorway as I was following June's commands. It wasn't long until we had the bed stripped and ready to be moved out of the way. It was when I was pondering the next move that there was a knock at the door.

"I got it," Mon volunteered.

A few moments later, Wes walked in dressed in jeans and a T-shirt.

"Guess I got here right on time," he responded before we started to move the mattress, box spring, bed frame, dresser, lamps and nightstands to the living room temporarily.

After the room was clear, there was another knock at the door. Marcie opened it to reveal Bill from the paint shop dropping off a few buckets of paint as well as drop cloths, brushes, tape, and other things. He looked at Marcie before he stepped in and his wife, Margaret, was behind him.

"Looks like a party in here," Bill said as he was led to the room by Marcie.

Meanwhile, June and Mon were introducing themselves to Margaret while Aubrey was smooshing Wes in a hug.

"Great job, muscle man," she said knowing there was an audience.

As difficult as it could be, I saw Wes's dark cheeks blush. It wasn't long after that Bill asked for me in the guest room.

"According to Margaret, you have no experience painting. She persuaded me that I should help."

I looked at him before I smiled.

"Isn't it funny the way our wives talk us into things?"

He smiled back before Wes walked in. We went right to work, laying out the drop cloths and masking the baseboards before Bill showed us how to mix the paint. Somehow during that time, Matt appeared.

"Do you realize how whipped we are?" he asked me as he grabbed a roller and started to help.

I didn't realize Marcie's project was going to become a party. Apparently, the ladies moved outside to the back yard to watch Matt's son play while they talked. Every so often, a different wife or relative would walk in with glasses of ice water as we painted. It took a bit of work, but the walls were painted, and we joined our spouses out back to socialize. After making sure my hands were clean, I even had the chance to play with my godson. I marveled at how much he had grown and didn't realize I was being put on video until I heard Shannon yell for us to smile.

It was a bit before we saw Sal walk up the driveway with some pizzas. For once, he was able to join us for lunch as we kept socializing and enjoying each other's company. As the sun started to set, Margaret and Bill begged off. It turned out that they had an anniversary dinner that night. As I shook Bill's hand, I smiled. A cry from my godson announced that Shannon and Matt had to go followed by Aubrey and Wes bidding off to go back next door.

"I'm coming over tomorrow to help you move everything back into the room," Wes mentioned before we fist-bumped each other.

As the Darling sisters kept chatting, I took a moment to walk into the house and smile. The thought of Marcie organizing a work party felt pretty good and my anxiety didn't take a shot. It was as I looked at the results that I felt a couple of soft arms circling my waist.

"Did you want to hug my sisters before they left?" Marcie asked me.

I walked back into the living room and gave both hugs. As the Darling duo walked to their car, I felt a pinch on my butt through the sweatpants.

"I told you I had it covered," she told me before she showed her seductive smile.
