What was he going to do about his attraction to this woman? Tyler didn't have a clue. Tyler wanted her more than anything, and he was going to have her. But at the same time how was he going to go about getting her and keeping her forever.
Tyler still felt bad about how everything with her husband went down. He wished that he wouldn't have let her drift so far away from him, but he had just wanted her to be happy. Now he would have to help her over come her fears of being close to a man again. Tyler didn't mind though, because he wanted to be the man she was close to.
Nyla knew she had just committed to do something she really didn't want to do. She knew that she didn't want to talk about all of her problems. It was better for her if her mental problems stayed hidden. If she didn't have to think about all that had happened to her; life was cool. Nyla didn't have to think about the trauma that had reshaped her life. The only positive that was in her life at the moment was Tyler.
Tyler had been her best friend since college and she had missed him. She had let so much of her life go for that piece of shit husband. Nyla was glad that she was finally moving on with her life. Slowly but surely she was becoming her old self. The moment she thought that thought she knew it was a lie.
Nyla knew she was not becoming her old self again, and maybe she wouldn't ever be her old self. She wanted to become a better person, and maybe if she let Tyler help her then things would be better.
She hated living in fear of everyman that stared too long or stepped too close. But sometimes she couldn't stop the pain. It just hurts so much. Nyla just wanted her life to be like it was before she ever met that devil of a man.
********************
It had been a few days since Tyler had seen Nyla. They had talked on the phone and decided to meet back at her place for her to begin talking to him. He couldn't wait to see her again. After the last time they had seen each other he hoped that they had become even closer. Ty hoped that Nyla would open up to him. He knew that she had demons, but with time she could get over them if she just talked about it.
Tyler had told Nyla that he like her, but the truth was that he loved her. He had loved her since the moment he saw her. She was just that one person that he felt connected to. Soon, he hoped that she would feel the same way.
Nyla got home only a few minutes before Tyler was due to arrive. She didn't know how much she would be able to talk about, but the time she got to spend with him would be worth the try.
Just as she finished putting her purse and jacket away Tyler knocked on the door.
"Hey Ty." Nyla said as she opened the door.
"Hi Nyla." Ty replied as he pulled her into his arms for a hug. He immediately felt her stiffen. He pulled away.
"Sorry, I just get nervous is all." Nyla stated as she shut the door.
"Have a seat Ty, while I grab some soda."
Tyler made himself comfortable while he waited for Nyla to come back. He looked around wondering how tonight was going to go. As much as he hated to admit it Nyla still seemed fragile, but he hoped that the sooner she got whatever she was feeling off her chest, the sooner she would be able to move on with her life.
Nyla took a deep breath before going back into the living room. She knew he wanted her to open up to him, and she was going to try her hardest to do just that. Nyla just hoped that talking to Ty wouldn't cause her to have flashbacks. She liked to save those for her nightmares. When she was alone, and no one was there to witness her shame. Tyler saying her name brought her back to the present.
"Oh sorry, I was just thinking. Here is your soda." Nyla replied while handing him the drink the taking a seat in the chair across from him.
"Thank you. So where do you want to start?" Ty asked before taking a sip of the soda then sitting it on the table.
"Well you are not wasting any time are you?" Nyla said with a chuckle.
"Nope. Now go ahead and talk to me. Talk to me." He said looking at her with his soulful caring eyes.
"Um, okay. I know this is going to sound stupid but I think it was all my fault. Somewhere in the back of my mind I know it is not my fault, but I feel as if I should have seen it coming. I knew he was controlling, but I thought it was just because he loved me. But I didn't see at the time that he was separating me from everything that I once was. The only thing he didn't have much to say about was me working. Even though he made enough to support us both he liked knowing that I was bringing in even more money that he could flaunt around and brag about." Nyla said looking over at one of her plants.
It was a plant her father had given after she had gotten her apartment. To symbolize a new life. She let out a small sigh and continued.
"If I would have just paid attention to the signs. He would have never been able to what he did to me. I would have left, but I couldn't see beyond his well placed facade and that was the death of me." Nyla said grimly not seeming to realize where she was anymore.
Tyler watched her as she spoke, and it hurt his heart to see the pain in her eyes. He wanted to say something, anything to reassure her that it wasn't her fault. But he didn't dare stop her for fear that she would never open up to him like she was now. So he let her talk, and everything she would say disturbed the shit out of him.
"It seemed as if he had killed everything around me, but who he was in my life." Nyla looked up at him and spoke again, "I have never told anyone this before, and Tyler this will be the first and last time I ever mention it." the 'don't tell anyone' didn't have to be tacked on to the end of that sentence. Tyler nodded his head.
