Destiny found herself waking up in a fantasy.
She had gone up to the apartment after her confession with a huge smile. Their other roommates asked what was up, but Jake lied and said she aced an exam. They bought this excuse as they didn't know her very well and told her to cheer up for the next exam. She didn't mind him lying. It felt kind of good being his little secret. It made her brain tingle, and she rolled around in her room, trying to quiet her squeals.
Her stomach was rolling when she went to bed, thinking about what was to come. Her whole life was going to change because of the relationship they would develop. They wouldn't be friends or close roommates anymore, but something else entirely. These thoughts left her shaking by the time Jake came to her room to talk everything over.
Her eyes opened at the knock on her door. She pushed herself up and felt her nightgown slip a bit down her shoulder. This made her blush, but she wanted to talk to Jake as soon as possible. So she ignored the fact some of her skin was showing and got up. Her soles felt cold against the floor as she went to the door and opened it. In front of her was Jake, who was shirtless and in boxers.
His package was in full view for her to see, the massive schlock leaving an indent as it bulged forward against the shorts fabric. While he wasn't a guy with a six-pack and a beefy set of arms, he still looked in shape. Seeing him like this made her brain short-circuit it was casually done. She gasped and took a step backwards, out of pure shock.
Destiny was struggling not to pinch herself. The woman cleared her throat and quickly asked what was going on. "I'm sorry, Jake. I didn't know you wanted to talk more, so I fell asleep." She wiped at her lips self-consciously, praying she hadn't drooled on herself.
He smiled at her and leaned down so his face was close to hers. "It's fine, Destiny. I just wanted to check on you. Everything must have been a lot, and I felt bad for throwing it on you that way." Jake looked at her in a way that would make anyone crumble.
"That's sweet of you." She blushed and shuffled her feet. It was nice to dote on in such a simple way. No one had ever worried about her, if she was being honest. "I think you should come sit."
Jake chuckled, glancing at himself. "I forgot I looked like this. Your stuffed rabbits won't mind me sitting in their home, will they?" He walked in and picked one of the larger stuffies up.
She laughed at this from mild embarrassment. Destiny had not realized that all of her stuffed animals were covering her bed. The younger-woman had always slept with toys since she was little. But it grew more obsessive when she moved to the city. Her only friends were the stuffed animals, and she used them as therapists. Though they couldn't talk back or even maintain a level of consciousness. Just having them made her feel increasingly safer. They were a physical shield from the emotional turmoil she was drowning in.
But hearing Jake laugh at them made her shrivel up inside. She looked at him carelessly, collecting something she treasured so deeply and withered. Destiny did not know whether she should speak up or not. The rabbit he was specifically holding was a cheap dollar toy she bought randomly one day. He might think since it had an arm hanging by some threads that she wouldn't care. But she did care. She cared a lot, and she stared at him painfully with her throat tightening quite a lot. The room became tense as she froze up like a scared little kid and breathed heavily.
Her boyfriend (she found herself unsure of their relationship status) must have noticed her sudden awkwardness as he set the toy down. Jake looked at her and gently shut her door. "Are you ok?" He touched her arm, which made her freeze. "Destiny."
"Do you find my stuffed animals childish?" The dark-skinned woman spoke with a wave of shame, overcoming her. She was trying not to let her disappointment at his comment show.
But he instantly connected the dots, looking at her bed and her crumbling composure. His expression softened and his voice was extremely apologetic. "Destiny, having stuffed animals is perfectly okay. I was trying to joke with you, but I should've kept my mouth shut. Do you want me to leave your room? We can talk tomorrow."
"I'm fine. It's just that my things are very important to me, even if I have them thrown on the ground." Destiny said with a stutter as she regained control over her body and felt his touch. It was warm.
"I understand that completely," Jake said and then his expression became extremely serious, along with his tone. "If I ever make you uncomfortable or intrude on your privacy, tell me." His voice was domineering, but not in a way that made her want to hide.
