I Want her to Know What Love Is, Ch 9

Crashing the Party

So my bother-in-law had fucked my fiancΓ© before me, years before me, and possibly more than me, since I wasn't keeping track. Although I had to be getting close to fifty as I couldn't keep my hands off her if she was around. That kind of pissed me off, though he had no way of knowing he'd been fucking my crush. I was especially pissed that he was encouraging her to keep working, but I wouldn't kill him. Yet. He had two kids and my sister was his wife.

But that brought up a couple of other issues. My sister was married to a pimp, who was getting his rocks off frequently with his girls. That was something Maya ought to know if she didn't already. I suspected she didn't, because of the shock of learning what Sonia had done for six years. So how was Greg keeping that from Maya? And if she went down there now, the rest of my family and my friends might learn what Sonia had done for a living, which totally blew. Try keeping that from Tommy now.

"What are we going to do, Rooster?" Sonia asked, tears streaming down. "Your sister half hates me anyway and when she finds out I've fucked her husband, that will go over like a lead balloon."

"What do you want to do?" Might as well find out what Sonia thought.

"If I go down there, he's going to know me, and I'm sure it will come out to everyone. Tommy's down there. Fuck, I want to die. Can I go hang myself upstairs?"

"Fuck, no." I kissed her. "We have to tell Maya and see what she knows," I said. "We'll figure the rest out from there."

"I'm so sorry, Rooster. This is a fucking disaster."

"Chin up, Sonia. I'll get Maya."

I went back downstairs. "Sorry folks. Wardrobe malfunction. Maya could we get your help? I don't want my fiancΓ©'s first exposure to my family being fully exposed."

My army buddies laughed, as did half my family. Maya separated from her husband and came upstairs. She was a little surprised to see Sonia crying, and surprised to see her in her dress looking spectacular.

"It doesn't look like a wardrobe malfunction unless looking great is a malfunction," Maya said.

"That was an excuse. Come with me," I said, heading to the gym, holding Sonia's hand.

"So, what's up?" Maya said. "What do you need an excuse for?"

"Do you remember Sonia telling you that she had an 'almost' pimp? Someone she had to pay ten percent of her earnings to for allowing her to use her street corner without getting beaten?"

"Yeah."

"Greg is her 'almost' Pimp."

"My Greg?"

"Your Greg. How much do you know about his Medical Supply job? Have you ever seen a check from his company?"

"No, it's direct deposit."

"Have you ever attended any company functions? Gone to any Christmas parties? Met any other employees?"

"No, they're headquartered in California, he's just the sales rep for the Midwest. I mean, how sure is Sonia? She only met her pimp the one time, right?"

"Maya, I'm so sorry," Sonia said. "Hudson expects all of his whores to fuck or suck him every four to six weeks. It's like his bonus in addition to what we pay him. He probably fucks one of us three or four times a week. I've been with him a half hundred times in the last six years."

"You've fucked my husband fifty times since my marriage seven years ago?"

"One or the other, yes. Even my ass. If I sold it, he got to use it."

I could see the slow dawning in Maya's eyes, the anger rising. I wouldn't want to be in Greg's shoes right now.

"What are you going to do about it?" Maya asked me. "Are you going to beat the shit out of him?"

"Not in front of you and your children," I said. "There's another problem. If Sonia goes down there right now, it's probably going to come out. What Sonia is, what your husband is. Sonia doesn't want Tommy to know, nor your children, or anyone else in the family. Maybe there's no way of keeping the secret anymore. A lot might depend on you and your reactions. If you storm down there and rip Greg's head off, it will come out. Do you want to explain that to your kids?"

The anger was still seething below the surface, ready to boil over, but she paused to think about it.

"Can you stay married to him?" I asked.

"No fucking way," she said. "Not if it's true. So, what are you going to do?"

"What I want to do, is have Mom and Ann take all of the young children on an extended walk around the lake. That should be good for an hour's break. Then you can stand next to Greg when Sonia comes down the stairs. If he recognizes her, you'll know for sure. After that, we'll see. I'm guessing the aunts, uncles and cousins will soon know. Hopefully, they can keep it a secret from the kids. The rest, we play by ear."

"I can live with that, for the moment."

"I'm going down to tell the grandmas to take the kids, and I'll say you're still working on the problem. Give them a chance to get the children out of here, then come down, saying the problem is fixed and she'll be down shortly. Watch what Greg does when she comes down. You'll have your answers."

"Fine."

I went downstairs. "They're working on it, folks. Thanks for your patience."

I went to Mom and Ann and told them to take all of the kids out for a walk around the lake, and to stay away for at least an hour, longer if they could keep the kids occupied.

"What's going on?" Mom asked.

"Greg Hudson is Sonia's pimp."

Both women gasped and Mom looked at Greg, looking a lot like Maya at the moment.

"Go now. Fireworks may go off. Shit may fly. The children don't need to see that."

I went to Tommy and told him to go with Ann and to help manage the other children. "Do this for me, son. It's important. Do what they say. We'll tell you what's going on later."

"Sure, Dad."

"I knew I could depend on you."

The two women took all the children and left. Maya came back down. She'd managed to compose herself, but she was close to flashpoint. Her smile looked as false as a three dollar bill. I told Berserker to keep an eye on Greg, and if he did anything to threaten any of the women at the party, he had my permission to deck him.

"What's going on?"

"I'm sure you'll figure it out shortly. Just watch Greg."

"You got it, Rooster."

Four minutes later, Sonia came down the stairs a second time. She'd dried her eyes, but they were still red. Every eye was on her, wondering if her dress would come off or something.

As soon as Greg saw who it was, he yelled. "What did you tell my wife, whore?"

"Nothing you just didn't, asshole," Maya said, hauling off and decking him, knocking him into Uncle Paul, then to the floor.

Now Maya was a tall, fit, strong woman, and she packed quite a wallop. But Greg was taller and stronger, and he didn't like getting knocked to the floor in front of everyone. He came straight up, ready to beat my sister. He wasn't used to women fighting him.

Berserker grabbed his arm before he could swing it, and if Berserker grabs it, it's not going anywhere. The only one stronger than him was Tank. Greg looked like he was going to take him on next.

"Are you sure you want to do that, buddy?" Berserker said, the other three Unit guys moving up beside him.

"Wait until I get you at home, bitch!"

"So your true colors are coming out at last, you fucking pimp. I've heard about how you beat your whores to keep them in line. Well I'm no whore, and you're going to move out. It's not your home anymore."

"I paid for it."

"Off the backs of the women you used, mother fucker. You can move out, or I'll have the police put you out, and I'll tell them what you do for a living, shithead. Right now, I won't tell your children what you do for work, but that can change in a heartbeat if you fight me on this. You're out of my life for good, and I'll expect generous terms in the divorce. You won't have to pay me spousal support, though. I don't want to live off the backs of your women like you do."

"Are you going to go back to work? That's rich."

"If I have to, I will. I only quit because you wanted me to. I don't know why you married me, since you got all the sex you wanted all the time anyway. Did he use a condom, Sonia? Do I have to get myself checked out?"

"He did with me. I can't say about any of the others."

"Is that why you got married; so you could fuck bareback?" Maya screamed.

By this time, everyone is looking at everyone else. The secret was no longer a secret. The beans were well and truly spilled.

"Greg," I said. "Look at me."

He looked.

"Do you know what I did in the Army, Greg?"

He shook his head.

"I was with Delta Force. These other guys were too. We build up a tight knit camaraderie when we fight together in the military. These are my brothers. They would do anything for me. I'm telling you right now, that if anything happens to my sister, or any of the rest of my family, whether it's by you, or some of the enforcers you use on your girls, a whole bunch of nasty killers are going to descend on you like the Wrath of God, and you'll wish you were dead. I'm giving you four hours to clean out whatever you think you need from Maya's house, and then you'll be gone. You can have 75% of what you have in your checking and savings accounts now. The other 25 % will remain for Maya and the children. You'll pay off all the credit cards, and her car. That's all you get. I'll ensure my sister gets by until she can find something else to do. If you say a word about any of this to Tommy, or your kids, or any of the children, you and I will have a heart to heart, and it won't be pleasant. Your four hours start now. Goodbye, Greg."

"I fucked your fiancΓ©, asshole."

"She told me. I know all of her secrets, Greg, and I don't care. I can live with it. Three hours and fifty-seven minutes. You're wasting time."

Greg left, storming out, humiliated and angry. Maya was going home with company if she went home at all tonight.

"That concludes the entertainment portion of our show tonight," I said. "I'd like you all to meet, and warmly welcome, my fiancΓ©, Sonia Walker. As you might have deduced already, Sonia has spent the last few years of her life as a hooker to support her mother and child. I know all about it, and I don't give a shit what happened in the past, only what happens in the future. She'll be my wife, and I expect her to be treated like any other wife and mother here today. She'll answer any questions you might eventually have. I only have one rule. Her son, Tommy, does not know what she did for a living. He's been told that she worked in Public Relations. As far as any of the children are concerned, that's what she did, and all that she ever did. This information remains in this room. It doesn't need to be broadcast to anyone else, including family who couldn't make it today. Thank you."

There was a pause of around fifteen seconds where nothing happened, and I could see Sonia start to shake, then suddenly, my family, almost as one, bunched up and greeted her like the father greets his son in the parable of the Prodigal Son. I was very proud of them. Sonia was soon crying tears of joy as she greeted them all.

I put my arms around Maya. "I'm sorry, sis."

She broke down, her anger finally dissolving, and sadness and misery taking it's place. Seven years with a man you thought you loved, and you thought loved you, would not go easily. Maybe he did love her. I don't know what motivated him. He'd obviously separated his work life from his personal life, but being a pimp, was a misogynist occupation, of someone who either hated, or at least, didn't respect women. I had to wonder why he got married. Just to have children? And what did he think of my sister? Was she just another woman to use, to have children with, or was it more? I certainly wasn't going to have a conversation with him about it. I couldn't even assume he'd tell me the truth. His whole life was a lie.

Maya didn't feel like partying, so I sent her up to the guest bedroom on the top floor to rest, sleep, contemplate, whatever she needed to do at the moment.

Berserker cornered me. "That was quite the show, buddy. I've got to hand it to you, I did not see that coming."

"If Maya decides to go home tonight, can I get you and the guys to escort her."

"Of course. We'll take care of her. You know that."

"She needs friends now, not lovers."

"I'm insulted you'd even say such a thing. What do you think I am?"

"I think you're a friend, but Maya may see something different. She may want to get even with Greg, and she's not ready for that. I also know she's always thought you were a hottie, so she might be tempted to try you out. Don't. Not yet. Give her some space to work out a few things, then if she wants more, she can have more."

"She thinks I'm hot?"

"As a thermite bomb, my friend."

"She doesn't care if I'm black."

"I don't care that Sonia is black. What do you think?"

"Damn. I've always thought Maya was too fucking good to be true. Did she say something to you?"

"She was married, so no, but I can see where her gaze rests, buddy, and it was pretty much always on you, especially when Greg wasn't around."

"You just made my night, and maybe my life. Hot damn, Rooster, this is amazing fucking news."

"Just give her a little time, and then if you want, make your feelings known. You know you're my brother from another mother, so I won't have an issue with it."

Berserker gave me a bro hug and joined the rest of the gang.

A little over an hour after they left, Ann, Mom and the kids came home. The kids immediately went to the kids room to play. Mom was always fairly well tuned into her kids. Being a single mother for much of her life had drilled that into her. When she didn't see either Maya or Greg, she asked.

"Where's Maya and where is their car?"

"Well, it turns out that Greg was indeed Sonia's pimp. It was not mistaken identity. That's why I had you take the kids, so they wouldn't find out. Everyone else knows now, but I didn't think the children needed to know."

"No! You've got to be joking with me."

"Afraid not. Perhaps worse yet for Maya, is Greg used to partake of his stable of whores. He fucked her long before I ever did."

"Does that change anything for you?" Mom asked.

"Not a bit. He's just another john as far as I'm concerned, except he didn't pay. I was bound to meet more of them as time went on. I'm just sorry one was Maya's husband."

"Where is she?"

"Guest bedroom, fourth floor."

"Greg?"

"Sent home and told to get his shit out of the house and not to cause problems."

"I'm going to go up and see her. Is she going home tonight?"

"I don't know, but if she does, I'm sending my buddies with. Greg threatened her after she clocked him good. You can tell her she's welcome to stay as long as she needs to."

"Fuck, Bobby. This isn't good, is it? How did the guests take it?"

"It was pretty quiet, but as you can see, Sonia is doing all right at the moment. She just feels horrible for Maya."

"I'll go see how she's doing."

"Thanks, Mom."

******

Our guests left around nine. My army buddies were the last to leave, wondering if Maya would attempt going home. I told them I'd see to her tonight, and maybe they could check in tomorrow.

We needed to put the kids to bed if Maya wasn't taking hers home. I went upstairs. Mom was lying in bed with Maya, an arm around her shoulder. They both seemed to be sleeping after the emotional trauma of the day, I put Tommy and her two children to bed in the kids room. Even Tommy went to sleep there, instead of the room he'd picked out for himself. It was like he'd taken over their care, and wasn't going to let them out of his sight. I thanked him for being such a good kid and helping to look after them.

"Where's my Mommy?" Tyler asked.

"She got tired and went to bed with Grandma."

"Is something wrong with Aunt Maya? Is she sick?" Tommy asked while I monitored their teeth brushing.

"She got some bad news, and it upset her," I said. "She needs to adjust her thinking, and that's always hard."

"I heard one of the other kids say she was getting a divorce," Tommy said.

"A divorce," Joy said. "What's a divorce?"

"I'll let your Mom explain a divorce to you. It's possible she'll get one, but it's something she needs to decide for herself. No one else can make that choice for her."

"What happened?" Tommy asked.

"That's between her and Greg. It's not my business, or yours."

"If you get married to Mom, would you ever divorce her?"

"There are reasons I'd divorce her, but if I thought she'd do those things, I wouldn't marry her in the first place. I guess I feel it's my job to make her so happy as my wife, she'd never do anything to hurt me, or want to divorce me herself. Life is complicated. You already know this, Tommy. Your Dad had an alcohol problem and he died, Your grandfather died. Things happened that left your Mom on her own to take care of you and your Grandma. Her life wasn't easy, but she did the best she could. I had a hard time growing up. It's better now, but bad things can happen to even the best people. Life is not fair. You make plans, and hope you don't have any complications, but deal with them as they come up.

"Hopefully, you can pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get right back to living the way you have to. Maybe Maya gets a divorce, and maybe she changes her mind, but whatever she decides, it's what she thinks will be the best for her, Tyler and Joy, and she'll soldier on, doing the best she can do. That's all anyone can do, the best they can. Finish up now."

"I liked your army friends."

"They liked you too, Scout."

I took all three to bed, tucking them in and kissing their foreheads.

"Good night. Don't let the bed bugs bite," I said, turning off the overhead light, leaving a night light on for them.

I took a shower, Sonia joining me about halfway in. For a minute, she just held me, then I put my hands to work, soaping her and rinsing, drying each other off, taking care of our other night time rituals, then making love. It was as enjoyable this time as the first time.

"Everyone knows now. How do you feel about that?" I asked her as we rested.

"I think they took it better than I expected."

"Hopefully, that's true, but part of that was Greg being involved too, and him being the more well known out of the two of you. He's been part of the family for seven years, so it was the more shocking revelation. You got buried on page five, while he got the front page headlines. Tommy heard from one of my cousin's kids that Maya and Greg are getting divorced. The story is coming out, and I don't think we can stop it. There's a chance Tommy is going to find out."

"So all the time I've been a whore, I managed to hide it, but I try to go straight and turn my life around, it's going to come out."

"He was also young, a baby. That had as much to do with his ignorance as anything. The longer it went on, the more likely it would have been he'd find out. I'm preparing him for the possibility."

"How do you prepare him for that?"

"I've been telling him that sometimes people do things for the people they love, even if they wouldn't normally do it. If you hadn't had to raise Tommy by yourself and help out your Mom, would you choose to be a hooker?"

"No."

"So you did it for him and Ann."

"I guess."

"You sacrificed yourself for your son. I can sell that."

"God, Rooster. I'm terrified."

"Don't be. Whatever happens, we'll make it work."

"I feel so sorry for Maya. Will she hate me?"
