This is the second and final part of the story about Jake and Sam. It's been a while since I published chapter 1, so please read or even re-read the first chapter before reading this.
As always, please rate and comment. I appreciate those greatly.

Love means life
-------[]--------
After she tore up her letter of resignation, Sam and I stood in her office, holding each other. I knew I had barely salvaged our relationship after hurting her.
A few nights earlier, we cooked dinner together, then changed into our dressy clothes to sit down to a romantic, candle-lit dinner. We had been dating for about six months, and we knew we were in love about a month into that. We had talked about having children, so I should have realized her reasonable expectation that I would propose to her that romantic night.
I didn't propose.
Instead, I asked whether she would like to move in with me. To her, it came across as, "I don't love you enough to marry you, but I wouldn't mind more free sex."
She walked out, and I was miserable for several days.
But now having apologized profusely, I asked her to marry me, and she accepted! I was holding her in my arms and knew I needed to act in a meaningful way to let her know I was serious.
"Sam, could we go after work and look for an engagement ring?"
She was still wiping away her tears and trying to regain emotional control, so she just nodded and hugged me tightly again. Finally, she spoke.
"Jake, first I need to apologize to you. I overreacted, and I was wrong. We both made mistakes that night. We were both at fault. I promise to work on that, and will trust that you always mean well, instead of leaving in a huff the way I did. I'm so sorry."
"That's ok, baby. We can at least agree to learn from our fight. Now, when do you want to marry?"
"Sam, if it were possible, an hour from now, but I'll settle for as soon as possible. I don't want to live any more of my life without you at my side. Or on top of me."
We were both laughing and hugging.
"We could fly to Vegas."
I almost laughed, but I saw something in her eyes that warned me she wasn't making a joke.
"What about your parents, or my parents?"
"You're right. My parents would be hurt if we just ran off and did the Vegas thing, but I don't want a big wedding. I thought I did, once upon a time, but not now. I just want to be your wife. I want us to become a family--to make a family."
"How about the county clerk, with our parents there?"
"Just so they're with us. I owe so much to Dad--and so do you."
"Sam, we both need to get back to work, but let's start with a ring tonight. You need to know how sincere I am."
"Thanks. Are you still scared?"
"Of course, but it's a normal scared, I think. What I learned was I was more frightened of losing you. Please don't give up on me!"
"I'm scared, too, Jake. I think everyone is when approaching marriage. We can be scared together, but not apart, ok?"

That evening we drove to a jewelry store. Sam was excited. I mean, ecstatic and laughing and holding my hand as she looked. The jeweler was patient--a necessity in the trade. He noticed I was looking at what I later learned were old style yellow gold rings. Rather than telling me I was out of date, he simply asked Sam whether she preferred white or yellow gold.
"White, for sure."
What do I know about rings? I design freeways.
After several minutes, Sam found not one, but three she liked. I was resisting all the practical, engineer solutions that popped into my mind. Never mind that Sam was also an engineer, and a promising one, she was a woman. A gorgeous one.
I had to wipe away a tear.
"Do you want my opinion?"
"Please!"
I had her try them on, one at a time. They all looked good to me. I picked the one with the largest diamond, guessing she liked that the best but was reluctant to choose it because of cost.
"I think that is the prettiest on your finger."
She looked relieved and kissed me on the cheek. I had passed.
"May I buy this ring for you, Samantha?"
She nodded as she wiped away tears.
Since the ring fit, I paid for it and slipped it into my pocket.
"Hey, don't I get to wear it?"
"Not until I kiss you and slip it onto your finger."
She stopped me in the parking lot, and not where cars parked, but where cars drove! That was one of the fieriest kisses ever with her!
When we finished kissing, I took her hand and slid the ring onto her finger.
She kissed me again, but this one was interrupted by a car! We laughed and waved to the car. The driver gave us a thumbs up.
"I need to take you back to the office to get your car."
"I want to spend the night with you."
I laughed. "I was afraid to ask you to stay the night, given my colossal fool moment last week!"
"Jacob Miller, I've forgiven you. Please don't second-guess yourself. I'm sure you want to make love to your new fiancΓ©e and rock her world tonight."
"I'd love to. Probably more than once. Then I want to sleep with you in my arms and snuggled against me."
She hugged me tightly. "My car will be fine where I parked it. I want you deep inside me tonight, Mr. Miller.

I slowly unbuttoned her blouse, kissing newly revealed skin as I did so. Once open, I slid it back and down her arms, exposing her shoulders. That's where I kissed her next, trailing slow, lingering kisses down her back. Her bra landed on the floor next--although the next morning we found it hanging from the ceiling light, so I may have thrown it!
She had come to the office that morning wearing a casual skirt. It unzipped in back, where I now knelt. I unfastened the catch and dragged the zipper slowly down. By pulling on the sides, I nudged the skirt past her hips until it pooled around her feet.
I was still behind her, and she was wearing only a thong. With my arms wrapped around her legs, I kissed her beautiful ass cheeks. She was moaning as I licked up the back of her thong, licking her skin on either side along the way.
What followed was the most heartfelt--and heart-healing--lovemaking we had yet shared. It lasted a long time as we explored, tasted, licked, kissed, caressed--and ultimately climaxed together. We lay in bed, exhausted, but happy.
I had an idea. I got up from bed and found two towels.
"Come on babe, it's the perfect time for skinny dipping!"
Sam was out of the bed in a flash, laughing with me as we ran out the back door, tossed our towels aside, and dove into the pool. She immediately swam over to me and wrapped her legs around me and kissed me.
"Jake, you're the finest man I've ever known, and the most fun fiancΓ©e a girl could ever have. I feel like the luckiest girl ever."
By the time she finished that sentence, I had a nipple between my teeth, gently pulling it.
"Oh baby! Please keep doing that!"
