We first met Carol and Jackson here:

Yolanda thank the Lord lived with us through the end of the season. The morning sickness was bad and I got huge so fast. Jackson had an off day and we met with the pediatrician. Her name was Heather Richardson and she was wearing a pride tee shirt. She saw Jackson and said, "You're Jackson Monroe, my wife and I were watching that game when you got hurt. Dirty play, you fucked him up good."
I giggled. They both looked at me with surprise, "Don't you love baseball, "I said, "Everybody loves it!"
She said, "Both my wife and I played college softball, for Cal State Long Beach. She's really tall and was a great pitcher and I was a short stop. I was a freshman when we met, she was a senior. She was an All American."
"She went to UCLA med school and I died when she left. I transferred to UCLA and had to sit out a year. I was not going to let some cheerleader steal her from me. My mom went nuts, good little Catholic girl and all that shit while daddy was fucking anything that moves. Jenny is a pediatric surgeon, she's pregnant, my brother donated for us."
She bustled about a little spark plug of a woman, she was humming to herself and she pulled the ultrasound cart over and rolled my pants top down and pushed my blouse up. She rubbed this goop all over my tummy and fiddled with some dials.
She had this chord with a doohickey on the end of it and you could hear this waa-waa sound, then she kept moving it around all over my tummy and the sound changed a couple of times. Then she put it right over my innie and the sound changed to like an echo chamber and she looked at us with this huge smile.
"Your mom said you had some other kids?"
Jackson said, "Three girls and one boy."
She looked at me and said, "Do you have a big house?"
I shrugged and nodded yes.
She had this huge grin on her face when she said, "Room for three more?"
Jackson pounced from his chair, kissing me, exclaiming his love for me.
I called Sandy and told her and she now had two kids and her wife had three. Yolanda would keep me sane and the house going.
The next morning we were having our meal at eleven thirty, chicken stew with garlic, chilis and yams with white rice. Our babies loved the food and all of it was on their tee shirts, on their face and we were all happy with the news. My love for Jackson and my kids consumed me. I knew I had to not neglect Jackson. He was limping this morning.
The smart phone in my back pocket buzzed. It was a 419 area code, which was Toledo. I had not talked to my parents in over fifteen years and was not the reunion type, according to Sandy my parents were divorced now and that's all I know. I answered, "Hello?"
A quiet voice said, "May I speak to Carol?"
"I'm Carol, how may I help you?"
She said, "Hi 'punkin, a little birdie said you're adding to your already large family."
I slid to the floor and started blubbering and said, "Mama, they're so beautiful, three girls and a boy and Jackson is wonderful. I miss you so much, I pray for you every day."
She was crying, "You pray for me?"
I said, "Every damn day, " and we were both laughing and crying.
"Mama do you know how to facetime?"
"I do," and then the window to accept the incoming call popped up and I accepted it.
I was weeping now and I said, "It's me, mama."
She looked the same, her dirty blond hair had streaks of white, she was in her mid-fifties and might have had a face lift and her nose was fixed from where daddy had broke it.
I said, "Good job on the nose mom."
