Part 1: Elsa
"Class dismissed! Have a great spring break! If you're going abroad or planning to party please be safe!"
My students fled the room in record time. By the time I finished my goodbye, the classroom was completely empty. I had expected something like this on the Friday before spring break and only half my students had shown up for the Friday afternoon class at all; most choosing to ditch campus early for their chosen spring break plans.
It was my fifth year at the University of Manchester and I had taken on a couple more classes to teach in addition to overseeing all the costume production students. This last week had been a struggle to keep the students focused and I totally understood. I was looking forward to the break myself.
Andrew and I had some big plans for the week. No, we weren't going out of town or renovating the house and Andrew wasn't even taking time off, but we did have big plans for starting the next step in our lives.
The previous month, I had been to the clinic and had my birth control device removed. Now a little over a month later, I was nearing peak fertility according to the calendar that I'd been keeping. A few days off relaxing at home together with plenty of rounds of love-making sounded like an ideal spring break to me.
I walked back to my office, my heels clacking on the stone floor. The halls of the usually busy theatre building were almost empty and the few that did remain looked like they were packing up to leave as well. My office was inside the theatre costume shop which was also almost empty. One grad student still sat at her sewing machine as I came in.
"Rebecca, aren't you heading out for spring break?" I asked as I walked through.
She looked up from the satin she was pinning, "Oh, hi Elsa. Sorry, I didn't know you were still here. I was going to lock up in just a minute."
"Not a problem," I smiled. "I'll be here for another hour or so." I glanced down at my watch. "I can't make the 3:00 train even if I run, so I'll wait for the 4:30." I always took the train to and from work, as Andrew took the car.
I set my classbook in my office and came back out to my own sewing station. I glanced at the chiffon draped on the dress form next to my station. The dress was destined for the character Maggie in the upcoming production of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. The fabric was pinned in place, but not sewn down yet. I looked at the clock again then back at the dress. If I started now, I could have the bodice pleats done in an hour then that would be one less thing to do when I got back from break.
I threaded a needle and got to work. I set an alarm on my phone so I'd make sure to leave on time for the train. Twenty minutes later, Rebecca cleaned up her station and left. I wondered if I was the last person in the building for the day.
I got five neat rows of stitches done on the bodice before I put the needle down to take a break and check the time.
"Hello there, beautiful," came a voice from behind me. I jumped in place and spun around quickly to see my husband standing there, holding a bouquet of gorgeous pink roses.
I clutched my chest trying to catch my breath.
"I'm sorry I startled you," he chuckled. "I did wait until the needle was out of your hand at least."
Andrew leaned forward to place a sweet, quick kiss on my lips.
"You were so quiet!" I smiled. "I didn't hear you coming at all!"
"I wanted to surprise you," he explained, holding out the bouquet of roses to me. I held them to my nose to take in their sweet aroma. "The entire building seems deserted, I didn't see a single other person as I came in."
I took one of Andrew's hands in mine and smiled up at him. "It seems like everyone has big spring break plans."
"Well I'm sure that they are nothing compared to ours, my love." He gave me a mischievous wink and I felt just the hint of blush in my cheeks and I couldn't hold back a huge smile.
"I hope you're hungry," he continued. "Because I already placed an order for all your favorites from Fu's Cafe and I picked up a bottle of your favorite pink moscato as well."
"My oh my.... Aren't you prepared," I said, swinging my free hand up to Andrew's neck and pulling him down for another kiss. His soft lips felt so wonderful firmly pressed against mine.
I stopped the kiss but stayed up on my tiptoes to look Andrew in the eye. "Are you ready to go home and make a baby?" I whispered.
"I am more than ready," he practically growled, kissing me again. I felt his tongue on my lower lip and I laughed.
"Let me grab my bag," I turned toward my computer but Andrew didn't let go of my hand. I glanced back at him; he pulled me back to him, taking my face in his hand. He dipped his lips to mine again and I felt the hunger of desire there. His hand slipped back under my hair to cradle my neck.
"We have half an hour to kill before the Chinese is ready," he murmured in my ear.
"Ohhhhhhhh," I realized what he was trying to say and I bit at my lower lip. "You are ready."
I set the flowers down on my sewing table and wrapped my arms around Andrew's neck. His arms came around my back and slid down the green silk of the wrap dress I wore. Once his hands passed my arse he heaved me off the ground and up onto the edge of my work table. Usually the table was full of fabric, patterns, and sewing notions but I'd taken the time over the week to clean it off before the break and thank God I had.
I giggled at the movement and suddenly I was looking slightly down into Andrew's eyes from my perch on the table. I rested my forehead against his, "Are you sure we should do this here?" I glanced toward the door of the costume shop. The hall was 40 meters away and dark, but we couldn't be certain the building was completely deserted.
