He took the job because, well, he needed a job, and 2 days a week cutting some woman's grass didn't seem that taxing. The old house needed a bit of looking after, but he could fit a plug, change a fuse and unblock a sink every now and again. The interview felt a bit odd and he thought some of the questions a bit strange, but hey, a job's a job. He did wonder what those "extra duties" might be, but now he wonders no more.
He used to turn up for work in work clothes: old jeans, cargo pants and that sort of thing; but these days he would find his work attire ready for him in the utility room in the cellar. He would dress or undress depending on what was there for him, before reporting to the lady of the house for his tasks. Work outside the house normally required some overalls, but when the work was inside, well, sometimes it stretched more than the imagination! What started out as being an "odd job man" turned into something far more interesting with some surprising benefits.
Not long after he had started the job, just as he was taking his trousers off to change into overalls, the door to the utility room opened and the lady of the house walked in. He scrambled to pull his trousers back up, but she just told him to keep going, since he didn't have anything that she hadn't seen before. She then started going through his duties for the day. She obviously liked what she saw, or she saw potential because that afternoon he was called to her office.
"I wonder if you could have a look at a damp patch for me please?" she said.
"Sure, where is it?" he replied.
