Jane came home, late from work again. As she walked through the house she noticed how much needed to be done. The living room needed dusting and vacuuming. There were dirty dishes from breakfast, and dinner, piled in the sink. As she passed the laundry room on the way to her husband's "man cave" she saw the pile of laundry waiting to be washed.
By the time Jane made it to her husband Rick's converted guest bedroom, she was furious. As usual, Rick was at his computer on some football team's fan page. His back was to the door but it didn't matter. Even had he seen Jane, he would little more than acknowledge her, then back to his screen.
Jane looked around this room as well, dirty socks, dirty plates. "What a mess!" She thought. Jane then looked at her husband again. They had been married for 6 years. Rick was now 28, 30 pounds heavier and as about as attentive as a rock. He was still attractive but not so much when he dressed like a slob to watch football all day, which he usually did when not at work.
"Is this it?" Jane thought. Was this going to be the rest of her life? She worked more hours than Rick but he never lifted a finger to help out.
Men do the outside work, Rick would always say as a defense, even though six to seven months of the year there wasn't much outside work to be done.
Jane was too frustrated to argue. Tomorrow is Saturday. She would clean up then. Slowly Jane backed out of the doorway. Quietly, she closed the front door. Jane headed down to the local bar for a much needed drink. She knew Rick wouldn't even notice her absence.
"Thanks for the call." Jane's friend Emma said as she pulled a chair up at the crowded bar.
"Thanks for coming on such short notice. I'm just sick of coming home to Rick's messes," Jane complained.
For the next hour Jane vented to Emma about Rick. Emma had heard it before but she knew her life long friend needed a sympathetic ear. "You really need to leave that SOB," Emma said, only half joking. "Look at you, Jane. Still in your twenties, gorgeous, great figure, an awesome rack, tight ass too. You got that long blond hair, blue eyed look, a lot me want."
"Don't be silly," Jane replied back with just enough energy to get the words into the air. "I love Rick. He's not a bad guy, when I can get him away from his computer and TV. He's a lot of fun and even romantic sometimes," Jane said like she was trying to convince herself more than Emma. "I know he loves me too, he just acts like things are settled. Like the honeymoon is over. I'm not ready for that yet."
As the two women drank more, they became louder. A lady seated near them couldn't help but hear their conversation. She finished her drink and put her coat on to leave. As she pushed her chair back she leaned over to Jane and said, "there is an easy fix for your problem."
Jane, to drunk to be put-off by a stranger eavesdropping on her conversation, said, "you don't know Rick," as she gave her glass a sad, slow spin.
"Oh but I think I do," the stranger said. "I have fixed a lot of Ricks and I can tell you how to fix yours. It's very simple, really," the stranger said with a slight evil grin. She then leaned over and wrote an address on a napkin. "Meet me here tomorrow at 9 am. I will explain the way it works."
Jane watched as the stranger confidently crossed the bar room floor, disappearing into the crowd. "If only there was a fix," Jane mumbled to Emma as she sank back into her bar stool.
The next morning Jane had a slight hang-over, not too bad considering how much she drank. Rick was still asleep, so she quietly slipped out of the bedroom. As soon as she saw the mess that awaited her Jane felt a little sicker to her stomach. She slumped down into the couch. She didn't think she could do it. As she sat there she remembered the stranger from the night before. Could she really know how to get Rick to be more present, more helpful, more attentive? Probably not, but at least going to meet her would delay the housework. Soon Jane was out the door.
Two hours later Jane was back with a little hope but also a lot of doubts. She set her bags down and went to find Rick. Of course she didn't need to look to hard, she knew he was in his man cave. And, there he was.
"Where ya been?" Rick said, hardly bothering to turn around.
"Just shopping."
As far as Rick was concerned the conversation was over.
"Listen Rick, we need to talk," Jane said softly.
"Here we go again," Rick mumbled under his breath. He swiveled his chair around to face Jane who was standing in the doorway.
"Rick, I need help around the house but you've made it clear you aren't going to help. A friend of mine suggested we make it into a game. That you may be more willing to help that way," Jane explained.
"I doubt it," Rick said with a frown.
"Just listen," Jane said, "It's simple, there is some dice in the kitchen. We assign a task to a number and see what we get."
Rick shook his head, "It's just another way to get me to do your job, no thanks."
Jane burned inside. "Not just chores, fun stuff too, sexual stuff."
This caught Rick's attention. He wasn't very attentive but he did like to cum. He didn't put much effort into making sure Jane came though. Rick was a bit of a selfish lover. "Ok, you have my attention," he said with a smile.
They sat at the kitchen table with the set of dice and a piece of paper labeled 2 through 12 on one the side of the paper.
