The Retreat
Chapter 10
Dave was gone when Sara awoke. She had expected it, but still felt a little disappointed. She kinda liked the guy. She wondered what he was doing right now, and whether or not he returned to the White House when he wasn't here. After a while, she decided it was time to get up and be productive. Maybe she would take a walk around the property and get some fresh air.
She had found some workout clothes in the closet, along with some running shoes. So she got dressed and headed outside. It was still a little early, so there was a slight nip in the air. The cloudless sky promised it was probably going to be hot today, but for now, it felt good to be outside again.
Sara decided to check out the backyard first. When she turned the corner of the house, she almost gasped. The backyard was beautiful. Several tall willow trees provided shade over the whole yard. A large gazebo sat in the middle, with a couple of benches along the outside. To the left of the gazebo, Sara's eyes caught a brick patio with a fire pit in the middle. Several lawn chairs spread around it. Shrubs and flower beds lay scattered across the yard, all strategically placed to please the eyes. A white gravel path meandered through it all and disappeared around a group of trees and bushes.
Feeling adventurous, Sara took the path and followed it around the bend. As she rounded the corner, a large pond came into view. Reeds and rushes lay around the banks. A little dock with a row boat tied to it sat at the end of the path. The sun reflecting on the rippling water made it all sparkle and shimmer.
Sara just stood there soaking up the beauty and tranquility of this place. It struck her why they called it The Retreat. It was a place to escape the burdens and stresses of high society and power, and let oneself let go. No wonder Leah seemed so protective of it. Standing there, Sara began to feel that same sense of protectiveness. It finally clicked inside her. She needed to be here. She needed to help those men like "Dave" to relax and not feel overwhelmed. She was much more than a sex slave. She was someone who could help others deal with their stresses and pains.
She wiped the tears forming in her eyes and turned back to the cottage. She felt a renewed sense of purpose and hope. She would do everything she could to help "Dave" feel relaxed and comfortable. He certainly needed it.
Sara spent the rest of the day preparing and planning for the next few days while here with Dave. She had to constantly remind herself that this wasn't the Vice President, but rather Dave the Insurance Agent, and refused to even think of him by any other name. She set up some meal plans, which included lunches she could pack for Dave to take to work. She would try to get up early enough to be able to make him a good breakfast in the morning. Sara had never been married, and her last long-term relationship ended badly. She knew that it took more to be a good wife than just meals, but for now, it was a start. Maybe she could get him to open up a little and let out some of his stress. The idea was a good one, but it really all depended on Dave.
It was late afternoon before Sara realized it. She was so caught up in thinking of ways to make Dave more comfortable and really give me a great experience she had lost track of the time. It was getting close to when Dave would be home, and she wanted to have dinner ready, or close to ready, if possible.
She dug through the freezer and found a couple of frozen pizzas. She had been so caught up from earlier she didn't have much time to prepare any of the meals she had planned. She quickly turned on the oven to the temperature indicated on the box, and grabbed some prepackaged salad from the fridge, emptying it into a bowl. When the oven beeped to indicate the temperature had been reached, she tossed the frozen pizza in and set the timer. She didn't want to burn it this time.
The pizza was almost ready when Dave came home. Sara had been waiting near the door when she first heard the car roll down the driveway. She was actually excited to see him again and was determined to make him feel special when he got home. As soon as he opened the door, Sara practically pounced on him, giving him a tight squeeze and a big kiss.
"Welcome home dear!" Sara said, a little out of breath.
"Oh my...Glad to be home dear," Dave said with a grin,
"It is good to see you again. Did you miss me?"
"Yes. Yes, I did," Sara said with a wide smile, then reached up to pull his head down for a deep passionate kiss.
They were both slightly out of breath when she finished and they just stood smiling at each other. The oven timer went off and brought Sara back to reality.
"Go wash up, and I'll get dinner ready. We are having pizza tonight, I hope that's okay with you?" Sara asked.
"Pizza is just fine dear. Just fine," Dave said with a grin.
He actually looks happy
Sara thought, and went into the kitchen to finish preparing dinner.
When they both were seated and starting dinner, Sara asked Dave about his day. She listened attentively as he went on about how he was finally able to secure the Johnson account, and the years it took to get there. He talked about his work and various co-workers, with amusing anecdotes about each one. Soon they were both laughing and having a good time. Sara realized that she was actually starting to like him, and appreciated the fact there were no expectations of sex. She didn't really need to put on a performance here. She could be herself, help make Dave's life a bit easier for a little bit, and just relax and have fun.
After dinner had been cleaned up and put away, Sara suggested they find another movie to watch. Dave readily agreed and insisted that Sara pick the movie while he made some popcorn. Sara sat down on the couch and began browsing through the movies available on Netflix. By the time Dave finished the popcorn and returned to the couch with it, Sara had found an old Kung Fu film.
