Chapter 1: Trapped in Nowhere
Anyone coming to Plainville would most probably say that who ever named to town had got it spot on. It was like a hundred other small town in the country and for most of the residents it was, and always will be home. Visitors only came to town as they had to drive through it on the way to Capital City on the warm pacific coast.
The dawn mist had already been burnt away by the fierce heat of the sun and by mid morning people scurried between air conditioned cars and buildings trying to escape the heat. A young woman sat in the front window of the only coffee shop in town gazing out at the large office block that dominated the low skyline.
She was pretty to say the least, her soft skin blemish free and tanned well by the sun that beamed down for the majority of the year. Her long silky blond hair tumbled down over her shoulders with gentile curls and one hand idly entwined a lock of hair around a finger. The blond beauty seemed to be a million miles away to anyone that care to take note of her, looking intently at the office block opposite.
The block was a collaboration of firms from different industries, each taking up a floor and providing the majority of the area's work. All the other businesses in the town only really existed to support the workforce employed in 'the tower' as it was known locally. Staring up to the top floor she counted the windows along from the left of the building until she found her target, before scrunching up her eyes in concentration.
'Maybe I can make a meteor will hit him today, that would be cool' she though to herself as the waitresses came over to her with an iced tea. As the frumpy woman placed it down on the bar the day dreamer was snapped back to reality and the waitress let out a little giggle.
"What fate awaits him today Jessica, hit by a bus again?" she said with a friendly smile to the young woman.
Jessica Jones turned a smiled at the waitress. "I was thinking he could be hit meteor today Penny, just a small one." she laughed handing over the money for the tea. Penny smiled at the young woman and said thoughtfully.
"He's a pig hun, don't bother wasting your time hating him. Its not fair on you I know, its not as if there are that many places to work." gently patting Jessica on the arm.
"True, but he didn't have to tell the whole office block his lies, I can't even get people to call me back from any office. Its the only place in town that recruits secretaries." Jessica said trailing off.
The waitress shrugged and walked off. Someone to the right of Jessica cleared her throat loudly, obviously trying to get Jessica's attention.
"Here, maybe you'll have more luck with your job search in here. I'm finished with it" the woman sat next to her on the bar said, holding out a folded up newspaper in her direction.
"Sorry, I couldn't help but over here and I just thought it would help. After all it would be a terrible waste if someone like you couldn't find someone to take you in."
Jessica starred at the women, wondering why she hadn't noticed her before. She was beautifully dressed and Jessica couldn't help but stare at her in awe, a faint tickled started in her loins at the sight of beautiful stranger talking to her. Her blouse appeared to be made from silk and Jessica could make out the dark lace of her bra where the neck line plummeted between her breasts, whilst her figure hugging pencil skirt rode up her legs seductively, revealing the tops of her stockings.
"Well, take it. I'm not going to bite!" the woman said with a laugh snapping Jessica out of her trance.
"S-s-sorry, I didn't mean to... Thank you." Jessica stammered taking the paper. The woman turned back to her coffee but continued to stare back in her direction, as if studying her. Jessica pick up the newspaper but didn't even have to open the paper to find the job page, it was all ready open and heavily annotated.
There was one advert that caught Jessica's eye, and the woman who had gave it to her apparently. A red pen had been used to ring the advert vigorously:
