"Our Father who art in Heaven!"
Daniel Dale prays desperately. His sweaty and trembling hands folded in prayer as his family farm's tool shed is lifted from the ground. It was the closest cover he could find after returning home. The tornado struck fast and without warning.
Daniel prays and prepares to meet his maker. Outside, all Daniel can see is grey dust and clouds around the shed. There is also debris and random objects spinning around Daniel's tool shed. Cows, chickens, and corn fly around the shed. Wood planks and shingles torn from buildings pass the windows. A bicycle with a black curtain stuck to the seat and handlebars. It looks as if there is someone on it. A caped figure flying passes him.
"Our Father who art in Heaven!"
Daniel says the lord's prayer for the 5th time since take off.
"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be ......"
Daniel can't finish because the wind is being sucked from his lungs. His head feels dizzy and light. The winds outside are whipping against his cover.
The winds and thunder roar for 15 frightful minutes. Daniel feels his stomach lunge into his chest. The twister is dying, and the shed falls to the ground.
SPLASH!
The tool shed lands in a lake and slowly sinks. Thinking quickly, Daniel swims out of the wrecked and sinking toolshed. Fueled by adrenaline, he makes it to the shore. He crawls onto the lakeside. His brown wet hair covered his eyes. Daniel pulls his hair up and shakes himself off like a dog. Gasping for air, Daniel looks at the lake where his tool shed went down. He looks around frantically.
"Where am I?" he asks himself. He is surrounded by green trees and sees mountains in the distance. The stormy sky has been replaced by blue skies and rainbows.
"Well, I have a feeling I'm not in Kansas anymore." Daniel laughs nervously.
Daniel first takes off his clothes to wring them dry. While drying his clothes. He hears a rustling in the foliage behind him. He looks behind and sees something moving away. It is a dark and cloaked figure that darts away as soon as Daniel spots it. Shivers rush down Daniel's spine.
Daniel also notices something odd. He puts on his clothes and goes to see what it is, and he is awed by the sight--a bright golden brick road.
"Well, that's something you don't see every day." Daniel begins to walk down the road. "I must follow this road. Hopefully I can find some help."
Daniel follows the yellow brick road. After hours of walking, Daniel feels the hunger pangs. He sees some apple trees and decides to pick some apples. He reaches for a bright red and juicy apple.
WHACK!
Daniel lands on his rear and stares at the tree. The tree has a human face on its trunk.
"What do you think you are doing?"
The tree spoke. Daniel screams loud enough to be heard in space.
"You want apples?!" The angry apple tree shouts. "I'll give you apples!" It grabs one of its apples and throws it at Daniel's head. Knocking Daniel onto his back.
"Hahaha! How about some more?" The tree throws another apple, which Daniel dodges and races down the road. After he gets far enough away that he can't hear the laughing of the trees, Daniel sits down to catch his breath. As he rests, Daniel looks down the road. He sees something shiny and green in the distance. He gets up and walks towards the light. As he gets closer, he sees what appears to be...
"A city!" Daniel shouts. A shiny, bright green city. "I can find help there." All that stands between Daniel and the green city is a field of red poppies. Daniel dashes through the poppy fields. Hoping to get to the green city as soon as possible. He is full of energy and joy. He sprints through the poppy field. As he runs, he starts to feel his energy being drained. The smell of the poppies becomes more intense. This feeling of intoxication was alien and overwhelming to the devout and sheltered farm boy. Daniel tries to stay away. He crawls through the poppies until he collapses on his face. As his senses fade, he hears something.
"HAHAHHAHAHHAhahhahaha........."
The high-pitched and manic laugh is the last thing he hears before passing out.
Daniel awakens from his slumber. He opens his eyes slowly. His vision is blurry, and it takes time for his eyes to adjust. The room is dimly lit by a few candle lights and a fireplace with a dying flame. He appears to be in a stone chamber.
He feels weighted down and heavy. His back is against a cold, hard surface. Daniel tries to get up. However, he is unable to move. His feet and wrists are bound by cuffs and chains.
CREAK! The door opens, and a shadowy figure walks into the room. The figure is tall and slender. It wears a long-pointed hat.
"Hello, my pretty." The shadowy figure speaks in a shrill voice. It raises its hand.
SNAP! The shadowy figure snaps its fingers.
BOOM!
A powerful force surges throughout the room. There is a blinding flash of light. Daniel squeezes his eyes shut. After a moment, the lights dim. Daniel opens his eyes and looks up at the figure.
He looks up and sees a woman with clover green skin. She has a pointed black hat and a black dress. Her hair is jet black, long, and tied in a tight bun behind her head. Her lips are ruby red and curled into a wicked grin.
In her hands, she holds his denim jeans and plaid farm work shirt.
"Looking for these?" She holds his clothes above him. Teasing Daniel.
"Yes, please!" Daniel struggles against his bonds. "Give them back, please!" He begs desperately.
His captor struts past him. She sways her hips and puckers her lips at him.
"Oh, you won't be needing these." She chucks his clothes into the fire, and his clothes instantly burn away.
"NOOO!"
"HAHAHAHA!" The cruel mistress chackles.
"Who are you?" Daniel barks, "Why are you doing this to me?"
She smiles her menacing yet beautiful smile.
"I...." the green woman pauses, "..am an enchantress. My detractors call me a witch. However, you, my dear boy, will address me as mistress or my lady. Understood?"
Daniel is confused and terrified. He is in the clutches of a witch.
This can't be happening! Witches aren't real! Daniel screams internally.
