Monday 12th October 1998, Guildford
It's an exciting day for me as I start the new academic Year at Portsmouth University. This will be my second year. I will not have my first lecture until Wednesday 14th which is nice. Gives me time to settle in.
It's exciting for two other reasons. One is I was accepted for the Intern post at the Portsmouth Museum. Yay for me! The money will help and I can easily fit it into my lecture schedule. There is plenty of time spare. It's exciting for another reason as the work going on there is very relevant for my degree. Professor King seems to be a real expert. I checked him out online. It seems odd though that I never came across him in my first year.
The other exciting reason is I get to see and move in to Sophie's new flat. We were roomies last year, the first year for both of us, but in a rented flat. I know her parents are well off so when she told me her father had bought her a flat I was super excited. She did sound quite down on the phone when I spoke to her. All I know is it is connected with the pub where she works.
I love Sophie's independence despite the family wealth. Of course like last year I will pay my share. Maybe I can supplement my income with some part time bar work too, especially at weekends. I better get going. The drive in my little Nissan Micra should not be too bad given I am setting out so early.
I arrive at the museum in good time. Thank god for sat nav on my iPhone is all I can say. Portsmouth can be a bit tricky to navigate, especially around the docks. I pull up in the driveway and park up in the marked visitors spaces. There are only a few cars about. I did not think what to wear necessarily. It's not as if it's for an interview or anything, I already have the role. Maybe I should not have gone for jeans. Oh well too late now. I am going to grab my folders which includes the Portsmouth Museum brochure I downloaded. It can act as a bit of a defensive barrier too. I know my 34C chest attracts attention but I always dress in loose fitting clothes. I am not that body conscious really but my vital stats being 34-26-33 at 5 feet seven and 58kb weight. My best feature I guess are my green eyes.
I walk in to the building and approach the reception desk. A quick glance at the clock shows me it's a little after ten past eight. Plenty of time.
"Good Morning. My name is Michelle Reynolds. I am starting as an intern today and was asked to ask for Professor King."
