Everyone in this story is over the age of 18.
Hello my name is Emma and I was finally on my way home from a hard day at court. I was a lawyer for a very well respected law firm. Our firm focused on defending the those that must would call guilty. Today I had helped clear a man that I'm pretty sure was guilty. I have never felt too bad about it before but for some reason today had left a bad taste in my mouth.
I had just turned 30 and had focused my life on my career. I had sacrificed friendships and relationships to chase my career and was now classed as very successful for my age. I had been earning very good money for a few years now and I brought myself a nice apartment in a decent part of the city.
As I drove into the underground car park of the apartment block I spotted him again. He was a young homeless man that appeared near the entrance a few times a week. I never really paid attention to him before but for some reason when I saw him I felt bad for him. Maybe it was something to do with the fact I had helped free a bad man today but I felt the need to do something nice in return.
As I made my way over to him I could see him eye me up and down, looking like he was getting ready to run. I was wearing a smart black dress fit for the courtroom. The dress helped show of my slim frame. My hair was tied into a smart ponytail.
"Hello, my name is Emma." I told him.
"Hello." He replied hesitantly. "I'm Luke."
"How would you like a shower and some food?" I offered him. He looked unsure at first but then he slowly nodded ok. I waved him to follow me and I made my way up to my place. I was on the 5th floor out of 6. Inside my place showed the large open planned kitchen come living room. The back of the room had large windows that made way to a large balcony. Either side of the living room had bedrooms. My larger room was to the left and my guest room was to the right. I called it a guest room even though it had never seen a guest. Both rooms had their own bathrooms.
I showed Luke the guest bathroom and left him to shower. While he was showering I ordered a couple of pizzas and waited on the sofa with the tv on. Luke spent a good 20-30 minutes in the shower before he came out with just a towel wrapped around his waist. This was the first time I got a good look at him. He looked early 20s and was slim. His body looked like he used to take care of it but was now more skinny from lack of eating. He had dark brown hair and a scruffy beard. He was very handsome. Seeing him in just a towel made me very aware that I had not been with a man in a very long time.
"Thank you, I feel a lot better." He told me with a smile.
"Your welcome." I replied.
"I know this is cheeky, but could I wash my clothes?" He asked, holding his dirty clothes in one hand.
"Sure." I said, thinking that they would be clean before he finished the food I had offered him.
I showed him the washing machine and showed him how to use it and left him to put his clothes in. He came and sat down with me on the sofa in just his towel when he was done. I had no clothes to offer him while he waited.
"So if you don't mind me asking why are you sleeping rough?" I asked him. My job allowed me to not worry about asking hard questions. He seemed surprised I had asked so bluntly.
"I lost my job and my girlfriend broke up with me at the same time." He said when he recovered.
"So?" I replied.
"So, I had no money and I was living with my girlfriend at the time. I moved to the city for her and I don't know anyone here." He told me.
"Ok." I said, happy that I found out the answer to the question I asked.
"What about you?" He asked in return.
"What about me?"
"How does a girl afford a place like this on her own?"
"First thing I'm a women not a girl. And second I'm a lawyer." I told him harshly.
"Sorry." He muttered.
He was saved by the pizza arriving. We ate in silence and I tried my best not to steal looks at his half naked body. We finished eating and the washing machine finished. I showed him how to use the dryer so that he did not have to wear wet clothes.
"Sorry." He said again. I did not reply and I did not look at him. His towel and dropped a little lower and I did not trust myself to not stare.
"So how to do plan to get off the streets?" I asked him.
"I do some part time building work when I can." He told me.
"Is that it?" I asked him rudely.
"For now yes. It's not that easy you know." He said angrily.
"Sure it's not." I said. He still looked angry as the dryer beeped and he went and got his clothes. He went into the spare room to get dressed again. He was still angry when he came out.
"Do you think you are better then me?" He said harshly.
"Yes." I said with all honesty. He seemed to get even more angry.
"Thank you for the shower and the food. I will pay you back when I can. I will show you that your not better then me." He said and walked out of the front door.
