It was supposed to be a weekend for all four of them to celebrate their wins. Matt and his friend Tim had just completed their soccer season, winning the conference championship for their college. For two 20-year-old competitive athletes, this was the culmination of a very challenging season. The plan was to take their girlfriends camping for the weekend and enjoy a little relaxing time in the woods by the lake. There would be plenty of time to drink, unwind and reinvigorate the romantic relationships that had until recently been hampered by their training schedules.
Matt's girlfriend for the last two years, Jessica, was a year younger than he but was every bit his equal on the athletics front. She and her best friend Maxine both played for the women's volleyball team at school, which had also done very well in their season. Since Maxine had been dating Tim, the foursome had been very close and did everything together.
Until last week, that is. Maxine had surprised Tim at his off-campus apartment, only to find him in bed with a new girl from one of his classes. He had tried to apologize and claim that it was a one-time mistake, but Maxine knew that what happened once could always happen again.
Now Matt and Jessica had just finished setting up their tent next to Maxine's at their shared campsite. Tim would not be showing his face this weekend. For that matter, he was keeping his distance from Matt as well, given that Matt had introduced Tim and Max about a year ago. Now Matt felt incredibly guilty about helping Maxine and Tim get together, only to have Tim blow it so spectacularly. Maxine was a sweet girl with a bit of a fun, wild side. She didn't deserve to have her heart broken by an asshole like Tim.
As Matt was reliving his regrets, Jess and Max approached carrying towels.
"Want to head over to the lake to catch some sun and cool off a bit?" Jessica asked. "The campsite is all set up. We might as well enjoy the rest of a nice afternoon."
"Absolutely," Matt replied grinning. "I can't think of a better way to spend a Friday afternoon. Let me grab my suit and I'll be right behind you."
Matt continued grinning as he watched his girlfriend and Maxine walk away, headed to the lake through the woods. They were both beautiful women, but he was especially looking forward to a little private time with Jess. It was turning out to be a bit more awkward that he would have hoped, having Maxine with them. But she needed a good time to put Tim out of her mind and Jessica encouraged her to come on the trip without him. Besides, Matt felt like he owed it to her, considering how things turned out.
"Last time I'll set anyone up with one of my friends," he muttered to himself as he quickly changed. Then, grabbing a towel, his set off at a jog to catch up with the girls.
The three friends spent a couple of very relaxing hours swimming, splashing and sunning themselves at the lake. Matt and Jess were snuggled together on a towel sharing a kiss when they realized that Maxine had separated herself from them and was walking alone along the shore of the lake.
"Poor Max," Jessica observed. "She was really into Tim and now she seems kind of lost and heartbroken. I almost feel guilty sharing time with you while we're here."
Matt shook his head mournfully. "I feel even worse. If I had any idea what kind of a jerk Tim would turn out to be, I would never have introduced them. They seemed like a great couple, but I guess you never really know someone. I would do anything to help Max feel better."
Jess was silent for a moment, pondering. "Anything?" she asked Matt. "Do you really mean that?"
"Of course I do. I know there's nothing but time that can mend her broken heart, but I wish there were something I could do to help her get over him quicker."
"There might be something you can do to help this weekend, but you'll have to trust me. You do trust me, right?" Jessica had the beginnings of a mischievous glint in her eye.
"You know I do. What's the plan?" Matt asked, curious.
"I don't have it all worked out yet but follow my lead this weekend and we may be driving home with a much happier Maxine."

Matt, Jessica and Maxine had just finished their campfire dinner and cleaned up around the fire.
"Dinner was great," Matt exclaimed raising his third beer of the evening. "Thanks for cooking."
"It was hot dogs cooked over the fire on sticks, but thanks." Maxine sniped amiably.
Matt grinned back. "But that's my favorite camping meal so you just made my night. The only thing that would make this evening better is a couple beers and a few hands of poker at the picnic table. Who's in?"
"You're just saying that because you think you're going to win," Jessica challenged. "You clearly don't remember how well Max plays from last time."
"I seem to remember there were a few beers involved last time...and that's about all I remember. Except that it was a very good night." He winked at Jessica, who scowled subtly back. She silently tipped her head in Maxine's direction to remind her boyfriend to be sensitive.
"Well, I for one would rather play poker than sit here and remember old times," Maxine declared. "Let's play."
While the girls set up poker at the picnic table, Matt grabbed another round of beers and his towel, heading over with a big grin. Jess and Max had been whispering to each other but stopped and smiled at Matt when he arrived. He placed the towel on the seat before sitting down to join them.
"Need a comfy seat?" Jess teased.
"No," Matt shot back indignantly. "But my swim trunks are still damp, and they make my butt feel cold. Plus, I don't want to leave a wet spot on the wood bench... OK, that does sound kind of whiny. Point taken."
"Maybe you should wear a bikini like Maxine and me. They dried faster than your trunks and we were able to pull on shorts and shirts over them."
"Thanks. I think I'll stick with my trunks and a t-shirt. Maybe next time," Matt responded with a wink. "Let's play."
Maxine drew the low card and started off the dealing. There were no chips, so no betting and after about a half-hour interest in the game was starting to wane. Matt maintained a healthy interest in drinking, however, and was already five beers in. The girls were still sipping their second of the evening.
"I have an idea," Jess spoke up cheerfully. "Let's make this game more interesting. Strip poker, right here, right now."
"Sounds great to me," Max answered a little too quickly, glancing at Jess.
"Fuck yeah," Matt exclaimed enthusiastically. "I'm ready to see some skin!" He cracked a sixth beer and leered at his girlfriend and her best friend unsteadily.
"That settles it," Jess announced. "We have a game. Since we have no chips, let's keep it simple. Whoever has the lowest cards each hand is the loser of the hand and has to take something off. Last one with any clothes wins."
"Better yet," Matt suggested, "winner of each hand gets to remove the clothing from the loser however he wants. And once it's off, it's off. Nothing goes back on for the rest of the night."
"Or however she wants," Maxine corrected. "You two are going down."
It was Matt's turn to deal the next hand, but it gave him no advantage. When the hand was over, he was left with a pair of sevens against Jessica's pair of Jacks and Maxine's three tens.
"Stand up, Matt," Max gloated. "I want your shirt."
Matt started to pull off his t-shirt, but Maxine stopped him. "I remove it however I want, remember? Over here."
Matt walked around the table to where Maxine was seated. She stood and turned to him, running her hands from his shoulders over his muscled chest and abs to the hem of his t-shirt. "Arms up," she said. As Matt raised his arms, Maxine slowly lifted his shirt over his head and off. "Looking good, Matt," she teased.
