"Ma'am? Ma'am?"
Lauren opened her eyes, rubbing them with the back of her hand, woken up by someone shaking her. She yawned and blinked a few times, looking towards a stewardess standing next to her in the aisle. Lauren readjusted herself in her seat, "Yes? Is something wrong?"
The stewardess shook her head, "No, nothing's wrong. We'll be landing soon though; your tray needs to be up, and you should be buckled in."
Lauren nodded as she stretched a little bit and found the ends of her buckle, clicking them together across her lap before she lifted the tray up and locked it back into position.
"You ready?" a young man asked, sitting in the seat across the aisle from Lauren.
"Yeah," She confirmed with a grin, "I'm meeting my husband at the airport."
The young man smiled, "Good for you! This is my first visit, what about you?" he asked.
"Oh, I'm finally moving in! It took a while to get all three visits finished though," she replied, glancing up as the pilot began to talk over the intercom system.
"Ladies and gentlemen, we've begun our final descent and will be landing soon. Thank you for flying with Brightforce, and we look forward to flying with you again. The current temperature is 67 degrees Fahrenheit and slightly cloudy with a chance of rain. You can..." Lauren tuned the rest of the speech out, having heard it too many times before. She pulled her headphones from her phone and put them back into her backpack that was between her feet.
The young man was fidgeting in his seat, causing Lauren to watch him for almost a minute before she spoke up.
"Are you okay? You seem nervous." He looked over at her with a sheepish smile.
"Oh um, yeah. I'll be fine. This is just my first time flying, that's all." Lauren nodded, understanding.
"It's not that bad. Landing is a little shaky but don't let it worry you, we'll be at the airport in a few minutes."
He took in a deep breath with a nod, seeming to be doing a breathing exercise as he messed with a small toy in his hands.
"You're a... what do they call it... you're a Little, aren't you?" Lauren asked, trying to start a friendly conversation. 'It might even get his mind on something else other than landing.' She thought.
He nodded, his cheeks bright red, "I-I am. How could you tell?" He asked, his hands having fallen still. Lauren nodded to the toy in his hands and then motioned to his dark blue backpack, a childish dinosaur pattern covering it.
"Kind of easy," she admitted with a grin. "I'm Lauren, by the way. What's your name?"
The young man seemed to become shy suddenly, "My name's Alex." He responded, not offering anything else to keep the conversation going.
Lauren nodded, "Are you meeting someone here, Alex?" He glanced at her but seemed to focus on the toy in his hands again, "I um, I am. My Mommy's here." He said quietly, but there was a growing smile on his face that Lauren could easily see.
"Oh, that's wonderful! I bet you missed her. She's got to be so excited that you're coming." Lauren said, grinning. She'd only read about Little's online but had promised herself that, upon moving to the island, she'd be more open with herself and others. It was easier talking to someone that seemed more her age than it was with Kristyn earlier.
