Cassidy flew down the freeway, her thoughts racing almost faster than her engine. Her day had been filled with drama from the moment her work mobile had rung at 9am. A true epic Friday special landing on her lap. Her intended productive day quickly turning to shit as she earned her six figure salary. Reports and debriefs had flown left right and centre as she carefully traversed the high profile debacle unravelling before her. As she sped home the situation was far from sorted but the day was over and she had done what she could. She eased her foot down on the pedal, casually gripping the steering wheel as she opened her window and let the warm spring air caress her face.
The music was at a decent level as she scrolled through her playlists. She needed something to fill the long drive home. Instinctively she scrolled to W and picked the playlist labeled Wolf. It was the playlist she played when he was in the car. Old school songs that reminded her of their age gap. Cassidy loved listening to him sing when they were in the car together. Listening to him sing was always so much better than hearing him complain about how her music was an insult to his ears. The sound of Fleetwood Mac began to wash over her and she felt it starting to work on washing away the stress of the day as she imagined her Wolf sitting next to her singing.
As the adrenalin subsided she could feel her emotions start to bubble to the surface. Her eyes welled as she blinked away the tears, closing the window and cranking the heat as her body temperature dropped and her body shook as the adrenaline come down took hold. Today had been atomically bad and she knew that her wolf was the only one who could still her racing mind. Her foot pushed further down on the pedal as she tried to outrun her thoughts but her mind only raced faster, fleeting from one 'what if' to another, questioning everything. There was only one thing she knew for sure and that was she no longer wanted to be the one in control. Cassidy's foot pushed further down on the pedal as she raced towards the only person capable of quieting her mind... her sanctuary... her wolf...
Pulling into their driveway she eased off the gas and rolled into her spot next to his truck. Cassidy got out of the car and slammed the door behind her. She was frustrated how other people's incompetence had turned her day into such a shit fight. The tears had turned into anger now as she cycled through the post crisis emotions. Muttering to herself, she fished through her handbag to get her house keys. Her hands shaking as she tried to get the key into the lock causing the keys to fall to the ground. "For fuck sake Cassidy" she chastised herself as she bent down to pick them up. As she stood back up she was greeted with her favourite sight. Her wolf. He stood at the door, naked from the waist up, barefooted, a warm smile on his face as he opened the screen door for her.
"Tough day Kitten?" His voice was warm and filled with gentle concern.
All Cassidy could manage was a nod. Before she stepped through the door, her head falling to the safety of his chest as the tears welled and cascaded down her cheeks. His hands wrapped protectively around her, one cradling her head, the other taking her bag from her hands and gently placing it on the hall table before wrapping around the small of her waist. Drawing her into him. She instantly felt calm within his arms. The tears continued to fall as they stood there, entangled as one, in the doorway. As her tears dried up he gently tilted her head back, kissing her forehead.
"Come Kitten, I want to hear all about it" and with that said he led her by the hand to the kitchen where he had been preparing dinner before he had greeted her at the door. Patting the kitchen countertop next to the cooktop he went back about getting dinner ready. She hopped up on the bench and for the next hour just talked at him. Talked at him as he finished cooking, talked at him as they ate, talked at him as she cleared away and began to wash up the dishes.
