Heather wakes slowly, groggily... her head aching. She opens her eyes slowly and looks at the strange room she is in. Gradually, it starts to come back to her... the utility shed, those men... and him... She props herself up on her elbow and turns, her head still pounding, seeing him sitting there, watching her.
"Hi... " she whispers, looking at him, still confused, then lays back again, unable to keep her eyes open.
"Hi my sweet, " he replies and she feels his presence on the bed beside her.
====
"Heather... I'm so very sorry. After the incident in the park, I needed to get you away from there quickly. I brought you to one of my homes. A doctor has cared for you, and he will be here again shortly to make sure there are no lingering affects."
I watch her roll carefully towards me, her eyes still closed. Slowly, she cracks open one eye and looks at me.
"I have watched over you all night. I do apologize for removing your clothes, but I didn't have anything suitable for you to wear. I had not planned on you being here for quite some time."
====
Heather listens to his words, and realizes she is naked beneath the wonderful blankets. She thinks to protest, but instead opens her eyes fully, smiling warmly at him.
"You saved me. I knew I shouldn't run so close to that shed..." she shivers slightly remembering it all in a flash... then she looks at him again. "You saved me."
Sliding towards him, she reaches a hand out from beneath the blankets, and he places hers between his own, leaning towards her, kissing the back of her hand tenderly.
"No one will hurt you ever again... I swear it." His eyes are dark and intense and serious.. and deadly. She has seen him in action and she knows he means his words.
"I believe you... this was not your fault."
====
I smile at her and kiss her hand again.
"Stay here for a moment. I will bring you something to wear. The doctor is going to come soon to check on you... then we'll see about getting you some breakfast. It's late but I thought it was best to let you sleep.
She smiles up at me sweetly. "thank you..." she breaths, holding my hand tightly for a moment, before letting me slip away. "hurry back.. please."
She is still scared and rattled. I stroke her hair and smile a promise before I leave.
====
Heather pulls the blankets up close and closes her eyes again. She feels shaken, yet in this bed, in his home... she is calm, safe, happy. He saved her... he rescued her... he cared for her all night... he is bringing a doctor for her. With those thoughts and a long sigh, she slips into light sleep.
====
I am completely unprepared and finally decide on one of my white dress shirts. I check with Marco downstairs to be sure the doctor is on his way then return to her. I close the door quietly as I see her sleeping, but she opens her eyes and smiles at me.
"Hello there." she breathes.
"Hi. I'm sorry, but I don't have anything for you to wear. I have someone coming a bit later with some options, but for now, this will have to due."
She props herself up on an elbow and takes the shirt with a bright smile.
"I will step out and let you slip this on... the doc will be here in a moment..."
She laughs and sits up, the blankets falling from her naked body. I turn quickly, trying to be gentlemanly, and she giggles. I hear her rustling behind me as she slides into the shirt. In a moment, she wraps her arms around me from behind, putting her head against my back. I am very aware of her body pressing against me.
====
Heather hangs onto him for a long minute, then steps back and he turns. She smiles shyly as he looks at her, and he is unable to take his eyes off her. She looks down shyly, but when she looks up, he smiles warmly.
"You are every bit the goddess I have been telling you about Heather. You are my goddess!"
She giggles and looks down again, blushing, but is slowly starting to believe him. She lets him lead her back to bed and he props her against a stack of pillows, pulling the blanket to her waist modestly.
====
"While I plan to make you mine and modestly will not be needed between us, it is not yet that time. And the doc only knows that you were injured in my presence and I am responsible for your care."
Marco knocks softly and leads the doctor in.
"Patrick." he shakes my hand. "How is our patient this morning?" he smiles at Heather, sitting beside her in the chair.
"I'm ok I think. A little sore and I have a headache."
Dr. Johnson gives her a thorough exam, checking her eyes, checking and cleaning the cut from the blow to her head. The evidence of the slap has all but vanished. Lastly, he pulls the blankets down, checking the abrasions on her left knee and her lower right leg. Satisfied, he delivers his instructions.
"You are a lucky young lady from what I have heard. You are fortunate my friend Patrick was there. I sparred with him at the gym once... once... " he laughs. "I don't see anything that won't be healed in a couple days. Take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for the headaches. If they last beyond the afternoon, Patrick, please call me and we'll check things again... but I think she's going to be fine."
"Thank you doc. I'm sorry to have disturbed you last night and I really appreciate your help and friendship. Let's have dinner this week?"
====
As the doctor leaves, Heather rolls on her side, and snuggles up against the wonderful pillows. Patrick is his name... she remembers hearing it at work once, but didn't recall it until now. He walks to the attached bathroom and returns with Advil. He grabs a water bottle from the wet bar near the windows and hands them to her. Heather sits up and takes the Advil, hoping it will dull the ache in her head.
"are you hungry?"
"Yes, please."
