Uninvited
A simple tale to set a mood; this is the first meeting of Beth and William.
She heard the sirens outside the window; normal for a Chicago Friday night. A bit closer than usual; she moved to her window, looking down from her second story perch through the blinds from a darkened room. She kept the lights off so her ex-boyfriend would think she was out. He lived nearby; if he saw the lights on he would try a booty call. It had been four weeks since she had been out – she might let him in. Her eyes went down the block to the flashing lights. Four cop cars, must be pretty serious.
She sighed and turned away from the window to make some tea. At least she tried to; the first step stopped short as she ran into something in her living room. A hand covered her mouth as she stumbled back from him.
"Shhh. I thought this apartment was empty." She couldn't see him clearly, just a bulky outline six feet high and strongly built. She had felt the muscles in his chest as she had bounced off. She tried to struggle to little avail. At 5'7" and 145 pounds she was no china doll - she worked out, did self defense. It helped not one bit; he held had her wrists with one hand, the other covering her mouth. She stopped trying to thrash, giving in to despair.
